What do people around here think of Pamida in Mount Vernon? They opened 9 or 10 years ago and were just OK.
Then they finally got better 4 or 5 years ago.
Now they've been falling back apart again over the last year or so.
What is up with this place? Is it the Pamida company, the management, the employees, or is Mount Vernon just a bad place for this store.
Do you think that Mount Vernon needs a different store?

I've never been impressed with the quality of the merchandise they sell and their prices are higher than Wal-Mart on most everything. The dollar stores get my business!

The quality I agree does vary. Some things are fine and others things aren't. Items like the refurbished electronics, although cheaper, are a little ridiculous.

Now, I can't expect them to compete with Wal-Mart on price because Wal-Mart is so large that they are able to get better deals. Some things I have read and seen on TV say that Wal-Mart is so large that they are able to bully vendors into giving them better deals. They vendors want to supply Wal-Mart because that is where most people buy there products. If the vendor wants people to see their product at all then Wal-Mart has to have it so the vendor gives Wal-Mart whatever cost that Wal-Mart asks for. This leads to manufacturers moving overseas and workers making lower wages.

I like the idea of a small town store like Pamida and try to support them. I just wished that the store would clean up, the employees would clean up, and the service would smooth out up there. It goes for a few years bad, then good, and then bad again. They've had to have had at least 7 or 8 managers in their 9 years up there!
