there is not much for kids to do they had an inflatable one year and you had to buy tickets for each time they wanted to slide. if your kids have to go to the bathroom good luck with that they are nasty and the trailer bathrooms were overflowing no chance of washing your hands so pack hand sanitizer. it is just a huge flea market with mostly crappy things the nice things are hundreds of dollars.

I went once in the past 11 yrs for about an hour. It is just now a huge giant flea market but it is also STILL a bunch of drunks.( Actually I am 43 and it has been this way for many years before I even stopped going, just a younger generation is not tolerating it now they have kids of their own) Most do not even know what Court Day is or how it came about nowdays, they see it as a makeout session for teens to get away from parents and yard sales and a few days to get drunk in public.( It has been that way for at least 30 years I know of and is getting worse by the year) Google it and all you find is when it is and how much they sale and how many come there for the most part.
It has not always been this big drunken yard sale where junk is sold at High dollar to people who can not afford it, and the food you can make at home ( a ham sandwich for instance) cost 7 x what you can buy the ingredients and make it for. the yojng nowdays do not know this because they only hear and see what their folks tell them.

The truth is for the young folks:

Court Day began a the turn of the 19th Century when the Kentucky General Assembly decreed that each county should meet once a month to hold court and conduct business. This day became an annual trading day when people came from many miles around to buy, sell, and trade. Large flocks of turkey, geese, and chickens were brought to town. Farmers brought animal hides, wild root and herbs they had gathered. There were many mules and horses for sale or trade. Guns were bartered along with the finest hunting dogs, ax handles, and farm & home equipment.

Today, animals are no longer traded, but you can still find one-of-a-kind antiques, handmade crafts, collectibles, handmade furniture, and all the bounties of the autumnís harvest.

The last part you can believe if you want, but even 25 years ago it was overpriced JUNK being sold to drunks.

google it now and see if it tells you if people were sentenced to prison or death etc on that day or why etc. No it just gives you the Fun buy food yard sale etc. crap. Nothing has meaning anymore at all for this. Go to Ft. Harrod or Shakertown, they still celebrate what was and should still be real morale social issues and what should be preserved, not go buy someones tire at 200$ because it came from October Court Day ( meaning a rip off, especially for those who plan on drinking while you are there, for all out of staters)when you could drive 10 miles in your state from your home and get the same used tire for 35$, just an example, may or may not be a real scenerio in this case). Take leather bracelets girls love to get there ( if they still have them) I used to pay up to $20 back in 19842 or so for one. I can buy them any day n ow engraved like they do at October Court Day for 6-10$. Go figure?????????? Please do not buy into crap if it is crap. One thing I can say is that if you are an avid antique collector and you KNOW your antiques you can find some there but if you do not know what you are doing you can be taken, quickly.
All I can say is go at your own risk and if you plan on taking very young children go in the morning when there are less drunks to bump into storllers etc. Good luck.

Parents with small children remember this if you go,

This small town of around 6,000 has more than 200,000 people walking her streets during this huge event
http://www.mtsterlingcourtdays.net/

I know from years of experience even when I was young that many of these are just public drunks stumbling around.......... keep your kids in strollers or on these leashes they have now for their own protection and do not turn your head for even a second if you go.
If you decide to go I hope you have fun and find all the overpriced things you want that you probably could get for half the price online somewhere or the fake antique someone built 3 days ago or that when you take home you find the tag that says "Made in China" makes you happy.

Correction for the spelling police of this:

I used to pay up to $20 back in 19842 or so for one. I can buy them any day n ow engraved like they do at October Court Day for 6-10$

should say:

I used to pay up to $20 back in 1982 or so for one. I can buy them any day now engraved like they do at October Court Day for 6-10$

If you want to go go, just read what I posted from sites and watch your back. If you have very small children and can leave them at a sitter it would probably be best for them. I was young and took my kids in the mid 1980s and ealry and mid 1990's as well as having gone many years growing up near there myself) I am certainly not saying if you are young etc do not experience it but I want you to know the real truth about it and not some garbage an ad somewhere makes it out to be so great. The person talking about the potties, is absolutely correct by the way, so that is one thing to think about. Also if you can stay away from the bar areas, especially if you are a young female alone, get my drift there?( Hell even if you are a young man as well) If you must go just be careful ok? However if you go, I hope you find it fun like you hope to, just do not expect too much is all I am saying out of 200,000 half drunks ok?

Wow...you are someone who has had some bad court days experiences!!! Why don't you let let them go and decide for themselves. I go every year and have always enjoyed it. Maybe it has become too commercial, but it a part of our community and history.

We have not had any problems with drunks for many years. There are not that many bars down in that area anymore and the KSP Command Post is right across the street from the worst. If memory serves me correct, last year there was maybe 2 arrest for AI. Most of the problem now is shoplifting from the venders and cars parking in no parking zones. If I had anything to say to anyone that has never been to Court Day before, it would be - Be careful where you park. My advice would be to park in one of the church lots, the Library parking lot or at one of the places on Maysville Rd. If you take a chance parking in a no parking area, you will be towed and that is very expensive. Come on down and enjoy it at least for one day. As for food prices, if you visit one of the local church booths or the cattleman's association booth you can get country ham sandwiches for $2, hamburgers $2, rib eye sanwiches for $5, hotdogs or drinks for $1. Do not believe everything you read, not everyone is there to rip you off.
