I am a member of VPs church that he pastored over the last few years. I wanted to leave shortly after he took Control(call me stubborn)because I stayed.I have watched friendships and families torn apart by his manipulation, I watched good hearted associate minister after good hearted associate minister "resign" and everytime something wasn't right about it, most of them to their credit won't say anything. I have lost friends because of the controlling ways this man has. He is a car salesman with twisted scripture as his product.

I hope for your sake you will stand up to him before all of your friends, family and mnisters are gone. And before your bylaws are changed to support his agenda. Before your church is in debt.

May God have mercy on you all as you deal with this.

Sounds to me like you have belonged to a "dead" church for a long time. VP is a real person and is following The Spirit! I attended the church he left to go to Mt Sterling and I am sad to see him go. He is confident in his mission and if that seems unhumble to you then maybe it's because you walk in doubt and insecurity about YOUR mission. There are plenty of churches out there with congregations so set in their ways that they reject change. Yes VP dresses a little different then your typical pastor and he plays modern Christian music. If that makes the people of ANY church uncomfortable then maybe they should ask themselves why they are there in the first place....
Stop beating down a man of God because he doesn't fit the mold YOU have created for a pastor and realize that God makes the mold. Praying for you VP! If they don't want to hear your word then dust off your shoes and keep moving! God Bless you and your family sir!
I loved the music. Couldn't care less about how anyone dresses. You aren't reading the first hand statements of what he did to people. These are just scratching the surface. Four pastors don't leave a church in 3 years, with no job to go to, if something wasn't wrong. Clearly you would drink the kool-aid.

Life Groups are still very much a part of the church still yet! Idk where you get your info from. But it sounds like a great deal of speculation (better known as judgmental)! Be warned that we all fall short of the Glory of God. And as Christians we all live in glass houses and shouldn't throw stones. Last I checked, if he was wrong, he will stand judgement for it, and we will too for what we type, write, express, etc. Btw, the church that had to do unnecessary building was for the kids, "The church of Today" which is still growing! So I think the extra space was timely! You who is without sin cast the first stone!

"What causes fights and quarrels among you? don't they come from your desires that battle within you? You want something but don't get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. you adulterous people, don't you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. Or do you think Scripture says without reason that the spirit he caused to live in us envies intensely? But He gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and He will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up. Brothers, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against his brother or judges him speaks against the law and judges it. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgement on it. There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you-who are you to judge your neighbor?" James 4:1-12

II Peter 2:1-3
But there were also false prophets in Israel, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will cleverly teach destructive heresies and even deny the Master who bought them. In this way, they will bring sudden destruction on themselves. 2 Many will follow their evil teaching and shameful immorality. And because of these teachers, the way of truth will be slandered. 3 In their greed they will make up clever lies to get hold of your money. But God condemned them long ago, and their destruction will not be delayed.

"Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent His one and only son into the world that we might live through Him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and His love is made complete in us." 1 John 4:7-12
"We love because He first loved us. If anyone says,'I love God,' yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. And he has given us this command: Whoever loves God must also love his brother." 1 John 4:19-21

Spiritual rebirth and divine knowledge (see 3:9) were no doubt among the claims promoted by those who had left the church and continued to cause division. Through a simple test of spiritual maturity, John defeated in one stroke his opponents' spiritual claims. The test? Love one another. This is the mark, John stressed, of authentic discipleship. Through love we confirm that God "lives in us" and that His love is completed in our lives.

<quoted text>I completely agree with your comment about church leadership. The pastor is not as important as the congregation. Pastors come and go, but the congregation of believers remains. I think the Biblical expectation of giving our best to God covers about everything, from our head right down to our best. My best may not be your best. Wearing jeans and tennis shoes to church on Sunday morning would make me feel very uncomfortable, not because of what the rest of the group is wearing but because it's not my best. I can accept that it may be someone else's best, but I think most of us can and should do better. A man can buy dress pants and a button-down shirt nowadays for no more than a polo shirt and a pair of Levi's, so money is not the issue. It is disappointing to see a pastor compromise on what he knows to be Biblically true. I think the "just as I am" phrase you apply refers to our spiritual condition primarily.
As for VP, I think he's still searching to find his way and I pray that he will search his heart and let God lead.
Honey you are no different then the rest. Anyone anyone should feel welcome and feel comfortable in what ever they decide to wear. You know that's the number 1 reason a lot of people don't even go to church. To many people judging what you do and what you wear. You know God is still In charge. If he thinks its wrong he will deal with it.

I'm not sure what clothing has do with feeling welcome. It may have something to do with feeling comfortable. If your entire self is comfortable when you come into church, you are probably not prepared for God to make a change in your life. I would have to disagree that the #1 reason a lot of people don't go to church is that they don't feel welcome or something related to a dress code. The #1 reason people don't go to church is they don't feel it is relevant to their everyday lives. All I can tell you is that for me and from my understanding of the Scripture, when I walk into a hall of worship, I should make an earnest effort to give my best to God. That includes my worship, my voice, all of my senses attuned to God, and yes, my attire. If we think God expects less than our best from us, we will give him less than our best. The book of Matthew teaches us that narrow is the gate that enters into Heaven. So you think lowering standards pleases God? Has lowering standards helped our society in general?

I hesitate to comment as this thread has broken my heart. Would true disciples of Christ be on here posting negativity? Absolutely not, completely unbiblical. And we wonder why the world wants less to do with our churches.
He's not perfect, but God used him to save us, our marriage and so many others. He's a good/called man. If you feel otherwise and are a "Christian" it's sinful for you to express that on here. Period.
As far as dress/music etc. WHO CARES?! You belong to a local Body to serve-period.

A friend said VP's last four sermons have been about church unity! And his preacher coach came to stick up for him last Sunday. This man is not feeling support here. Since he has gotten rid of four church employees who were beloved by people in the church who could blame the folks there.

The last sermans have been on something BIG. The church needed changes in my opinion. We are praying for something big to happen. That is 1015 by 2015 and it will happen. New people are coming and people are getting saved. He is preaching from the BIBLE which we haven't had for a while. I have seen paster come and pasters go, we are still the church of GOD.

VP has problems and the biggest problem is ego. This guy has had trouble with other churches and the elders of FCOG Mt. Sterling just overlooked those issues. Having done so will come back to haunt them. For those of you who think this is merely hearsay, think again, the people in West Virginia would be glad to tell you about this guys issues. And, there is aboslutely nothing wrong with seeking or speaking the truth, even if it hurts!

Read Pauls address to the the church at Corinth. He was not preaching negativity but truth, and I'm sure they didn't like it either.

I do not think anyone has said anything about his preaching. It is the business side of the church that people are beginning to be looking at. Abolishing all committees so he has total control??? Don't know about this!

Have you ever heard the term tough love? Because we love we do not become blind and stupid. Or, do you not remember Jim Jones and his blind and stupid followers? VP was not vetted properly and the church knows it; they may not admit it but they know it. I think you are way off base here, but you are entitled to your opinion, just as I am mine.
