But don't let facts get in your way, it seems Powell supporters never do.
See my post for facts. People 'die' in all revolutions and it is long overdue for Montgomery County to shoot a hostage to save the mass. The board understands fully that the staff will not embrace this change with open arms and some good folks may leave, however, sometimes you have to shoot a hostage.

The end result is what makes the difference. If the Montgomery County staff wasn't being fired, demoted, and pissed I would be concerned about Mr. Powell's ability to reach a vision.

To me, this is a barometer showing us Montgomery Co parents that true change has indeed arrived. I'm glad because my daughters only in her 2nd year and she may actually have a winning staff to teach her in her primary years.

Would you believe the old MoCo crew would do things like - encourage parents to say their children have disabilities to excuse their academic problem, therefore, they can still play sports?

Those days are over and the staff should be concerned!

You mean you're glad your daughters will be taught by second rate teachers because all the good ones will leave and be replaced by inferior ones because they don't want to put with all the BS Powell puts them through? And good ones won't replace them because MOCO is now known far and wide as bad place to work. Well good for you!

And for those that are near retirement, etc. that figure they are better off just riding out the storm until Powell leaves for his next project district, do you really think being treated like dirt motivates them to do their jobs to the best of their ability? If you do you're just as dumb as Powell.

I believe the system required a cleanse before it can change. It's like when you skin your knee as a child. It hurts bad, you spray some medicine on it, it burns, then guess what - it heals!

Once the system is cleansed it will then need a different leadership style. One that is a bit more nurturing and focused on developing the quality staff.

As I said, Powell will develop a few, wake up a few, and the disengaged group crying victim will seek employment elsewhere. Powell will have no trouble bringing in quality staff to replace disengaged staff.

You will see a different style of leader in about 3 years but that style will not behoove the system at this time of the required transformation.

"MOCO is known far and wide as a bad place to work"-really? You keep asking for facts-where are yours?
This thread is a bunch of hearsay and opinion, and therefore accomplishing nothing.
I am neither a Powell supporter or attacker, for the record. I feel it is too early to form a concrete opinion.

Unfortunately, all of those "good teachers" helped create a climate requiring this style of leadership to make a change.

Most people don't change until the pain of not changing is greater than the pain of change.

Folks will change or seek employment. After 3 years it will be time for a "sustain leader" to take over. Currently it's simply getting the ball rolling.

Wake up and realize that the current situation does not have a root cause of Josh Powell but rather a root cause of the past several years and "good teachers". The solution is exactly what you see happening.

Great job board! Perhaps I should publicly advocate in the papers because some folks lack the ability to look at themselves and realize they are the problem and the solution. Poor attitudes and blatant ignorance is what generated the need for this turnaround phase.

Now, stop crying and focus on what you can control instead of what you can't control.

Anyone else interested in positively advocating the boards courage to make s bold and tough decision?

I'm obviously not going to name names here, but how about hiring/promoting cronies for administrative positions that don't meet the LEGAL qualifications.

For all you whiny teachers on here complaining because your guaranteed retirement might be in jeapardy, good. My son was there 3 years, and in 3 years I was never satisfied with the pace or quality of his education, and I was not happy about the care-free way parent's concerns were adressed. It was 3 years of frustration and disapointment. I'm glad he's shaking things up, that's what needs to happen. The school is suppose to be there for the purpose of educated our kids, period. If that isn't being done properly, then changes need to be made.

I've always heard that if you can't find a job anywhere else, you can always go to Frankfort and get a job. Analyze that!

Outstanding post! You should continue speaking up as you have practical understanding and a history with the old system.

I too am simply entertained by it but genuinely interested in the ignorant position and schools of thought here in MoCo. Now, enough with the "diversion" and bad attempt at an ad hominem attack let's stick to the topic.
