No, he can't go on Topix. He was too busy taking a vacation (oops, I mean attending a "conference") in Florida this week. So he can take a vacation in Florida (I mean, go to a "conference") on the taxpayer's dime, but he won't allow any teachers funds for the professional development state law says they need to do to keep their certification.

He can also cancel school last Friday so the kids could go to see the girls basketball team at state in Bowling Green. Except because he was vacationing (errr... attending a "conference") in Florida he never notified the kids of the bus until 8:00 (by doing a robocall to their houses) when it was to leave at 9:30. So, school was still cancelled, a day that will have to be made up, and no kids even went on the buses because of the late notice.

Another day, another F-up by King Powell.

ROFLMFAO!!!! You result to personal attacks because you have no proof. It says a lot about the type of people that support this guy.

The burden of proof is on those making the claims.

I don't have a "clique." I just call it like I see it.

Still waiting for proof of the standardized test scores skyrocketing this year, ACT scores skyrocketing, every other district in the USA wanting this guy, etc. You claim the info. is public and readily available, so it should be easy for you to provde proof of how great your guy is doing.

I am like you. There is not any proof. Standardized scores will not be available until fall 2012 and JRs just took the ACT last Tuesday.

Exactly.

And I even think there will be some modest improvements in the short term. However, when there is constant turnover in any organization, and a school system is an organization, performance suffers. Powell will fire some people that do their jobs poorly. However, he is creating a school system noone wants to work in, which will result in many times more people who do their jobs well leaving on their own. They will be replaced by rookies who will themselves leave after a year because of the work environment Powell has created. So any possible gains will not last, and things will end up worse than before.

I know of one excellent teacher that was terminated a week ago because she called him out at a teachers meeting. She was terminated based on the lies of a NON- TENURED TEACHER. good teachers are leaving and will be replaced by teachers that have been fired by other counties.

Noone should be surprised if there is a severe shortage of teachers at the beginning of next school year if there is not a new board and Powell is not replaced.

The reason is that now Powell has decided that he will sit in on all interviews, and he will be making the decisions on what teachers get hired. So the principals won't have control over who their teachers are anymore. A psychology major, with ONE year of teaching experience, deciding who will be a good teacher during the interview.

The problem is word is already out in surrounding counties, and within the education departments at the region's universities, about what a horrible place to work MC has become. So good applicants will not apply for MC. So Powell will either have to take inferior people, or not fill the positions when he would like to. But the positions will have to be filled eventually otherwise there will be 60 kids in classes. But if he doesn't fill the vacancies with the initial inferior applicants, by the time he is forced to fill the positions only the worst of the worst will be left on the market.

Who ultimately suffers because of Powell and his arrogancce? The students and their futures.

So, throwing kids to alternative class, court, and 2 hours a week of homebound instruction was beneficial to a student's future?

All you have to do is call KDE, I encourage you to do that..

Your the one that keeps hearing the Jeopardy music, and you always will..Like I said, you and a few others will never accept proof..pick up the phone and make the call..its that easy!

The kids of this district struck gold, all they are hearing is the Wheel of FORTUNE theme!

You're the one who is making the claims scores have gone way up (ACT and state test), all these other districts in KY and around the US wanted him, etc. You need to provide the proof because you are making the claims. It should be pretty easy since you claim it is all public and easily available.

The only fortune being wheeled is that of the residents of MOCO. Taxes increased 4% last year to fuel his out of control spending, and there are plans for them to go up a similar percentage this year.

A phrase the teachers better get used to is 'I better not hear of anyone saying anything negative about this. I've gotten rid of people for less'. That is if they aren't used to it already.

Folks,

If you are focused on the right thing NOW you may or may not be okay in terms of future employment or being reallocated. The reality of the situation, however, is you have not been focused on the right thing; hence, the need for drastic change.

Mr. Powell's job is to repeat what he has already accomplished. I'm not sure what moral compass Mr. Powell employs but I do know results speak for themselves. Montgomery County needs results not someone concerned about the egos of parents nor the staff for that matter.

I will speculate that many will lose their jobs, many will become MUCH better at their jobs, and some will be promoted for their good work.

Here's what you should accept now to prepare yourself fully -

1) Your last name means nothing
2) Your kiss as@ ability means nothing
3) Your limitations DO matter in terms of ability
4) Your ability to understand the vision DOES matter
5) DO NOT play victim
6) DO NOT make excuses
7) GENERATE MEASURABLE RESULTS

In reality -

15 - 20 % will lose their job over next two school years some coming soon

15 - 70 % will weather the storm unaffected

70 - 90 % will get better and end up promoted (this is Mr. Powell's key)

10 % will resign or relocate on their own

Focus on the 7 points above and you will be a part of the 70 - 90 %!

Except he is still in the process of completing that degree. He is not even a PhD candidate yet, he is still a PhD student. And based on how busy he's been firing, demoting, demeaning, and pissing people off in his new job, he assuredly isn't making any progress toward completing that degree.

But don't let facts get in your way, it seems Powell supporters never do.
