I agree with all those who see promise in Josh Powell and his plans for Montgomery County Schools. I have nothing to gain by posting the truth on a social site anonymously. So I do it because it is right. Dr. Freeman and his principals built a fear cage around teachers and threw paperwork in to bury them. Josh Powell is innovative, energetic, and deserves better than all these negative attacks.

Josh Powell was left with a mess. The district aka past administrator had many skeletons in the closet. Freeman knew it was time to go, the school was going doing the tube and he knew he had sugar coated too long. Mr. Powel was left with more to deal with that many people know. The dirty work from the good ole boys has been brought to the surface. Just give Mr Powel a chance, just wait until we get a 1 yr reveiw, I feel that there will be adifference, maybe not the best, but time will make up proud of our school and the progress. Just knowing we not in the bottom will boast the ego of our system's academic stature. Sports are there already because of the interst in sports for a long period of time and lack of interest in academics.
Don't worry folks Powell and his so called associates will have a very short tenure in Montgomery County. The School board will be voted out first and then these idiots will be gone soon after. Henderson will also be voted out of office. He is a disgrace to Montgomery County.. If the Athletic Director makes that kind of money then Powell and the AD should be put in prison because that is stealing. I thought it was funny how the AD followed John Calipari around like a lost puppy at the Joe B Hall classic. How can a man like him know if a coach is doing a good job or not? I bet him and his pudge buddy Powell has never played any sport. I laugh when I see both of them. Wait and see what happens folks the board is first and then the dirty politics will take over. So long Powell and friends we never got to know you! Thank God!!!

You sound like a person that is scared.. You need help. Mr. Powell is doing what is right for the kids, not adults.... Its all about the kids. MR. POWELL KEEP UP THE GOOD JOB. I have children and grandchildren in Montgomery County Schools and I get tired of hearing how everyone/anyone is "all about the children". It is all about the money, how can they make more money or get more money from the government. My child gets no benefit from testing 2-3 days a week. Ms Smith loved children but you see where it got her. She made a difference in those kids lives that wasn't about money. She interacted with them and showed them someone cared. Thanks school board for showing us it is all about the money with your votes.

Well lets see. I remember reading in the paper while Mrs Smith was principal the school made no academic gains. The schools was in a mess. Yes she loved the kids but why are the kids there to learn. She was not cutting it. Her school was in the BOTTOM 20% in the state. The school was in year 4 of correction plans. The state comes in on year 5 and fires or moves half the staff and removes the principal. Does anyone want the staff to loose their job? NO!! Mr. Powell helped everyone by moving her. She was in no way going to turn that school around this year. Oh and by the way the school board has no control over hiring or firing the principal. that is all S.B.D.M. I guess you need to learn how Kentucky Schools work.
I guess you also do not understand why the testing take place. If the child has not learned what they should have, then the material needs to be reviewed. You are such a dumb A** know how everything works before you get on here talking crap.

of course the board does not hire/fire but they did turn all personnel matters over to Mr. Powell (refer to minutes of meetings) He can reassign any employee he desires with/ with out cause, he also is setting salaries for the people he recruits. The reassigned person is under contract until this summer at which time their contract will not be renewed, effectively firing them. So in closing before you call some one names make sure it's not a mirror you are speaking too.
And for the record I am neither pro nor con regards to Mr. Powell just don't like falsehoods either way.

This is what I know. JP is a brilliant man; his people skills suck; he does not put kids first.... he puts HIMSELF FIRST!
He has, can, and will make a difference within the school system. The scores will rise, the enviroment for the children and employees will drop considerably.
He does not do what he does for the children; he does it so he may be GLORIFIED and maybe make his way to be Commissioner of Education one day.
He pushes and twist the laws, this is why your Board attorney will probably have a daily or at least a weekly meeting with him. Which will cost you the tax payer AT LEAST $20,000 a year in legal fees just for him.
You will began to see news articles talking about awards he has been nomiated for etc. HE will have someone inside the circle he dominates "write" the article, YET HE will "HITLER" the article from beginning to end. NOTE: The awards are SELF nominations; and he will have an EMPLOYEE do all the work on his behalf.
He will make subtle negitive remarks about people and attempt to make others believe they cannot be trusted... when the fact is, HE is the one who can not be trusted. He will do this while thinking four or five steps ahead; as I said, he is brilliant.
You will also witness his TRIAD come on site's like this to make "positive" post. Not all, but MOST, will be because he has "Suggested" they do it.
It is very sad, but very true... he is NARCISSISTIC!!!! Look up this personality trait, and this is him, the way he thinks, talks/treats others, and lives the life.
I would reccommend someone DEMAND a state level FORENSIC AUDIT of the school system ASAP!!!! Yes remember the term FORENSIC AUDIT... and DEMAND IT!!!

From Mayo Clinic.com

Narcissistic personality disorder is characterized by dramatic, emotional behavior, which is in the same category as antisocial and borderline personality disorders.

Narcissistic personality disorder symptoms may include:

Believing that you're better than others
Fantasizing about power, success and attractiveness
Exaggerating your achievements or talents
Expecting constant praise and admiration
Believing that you're special and acting accordingly
Failing to recognize other people's emotions and feelings
Expecting others to go along with your ideas and plans
Taking advantage of others
Expressing disdain for those you feel are inferior
Being jealous of others
Believing that others are jealous of you
Trouble keeping healthy relationships
Setting unrealistic goals
Being easily hurt and rejected
Having a fragile self-esteem
Appearing as tough-minded or unemotional
Although some features of narcissistic personality disorder may seem like having confidence or strong self-esteem, it's not the same. Narcissistic personality disorder crosses the border of healthy confidence and self-esteem into thinking so highly of yourself that you put yourself on a pedestal. In contrast, people who have healthy confidence and self-esteem don't value themselves more than they value others.

When you have narcissistic personality disorder, you may come across as conceited, boastful or pretentious. You often monopolize conversations. You may belittle or look down on people you perceive as inferior. You may have a sense of entitlement. And when you don't receive the special treatment to which you feel entitled, you may become very impatient or angry. You may insist on having "the best" of everything the best car, athletic club, medical care or social circles, for instance.

But underneath all this behavior often lies a fragile self-esteem. You have trouble handling anything that may be perceived as criticism. You may have a sense of secret shame and humiliation. And in order to make yourself feel better, you may react with rage or contempt and efforts to belittle the other person to make yourself appear better.

When to see a doctor
When you have narcissistic personality disorder, you may not want to think that anything could be wrong doing so wouldn't fit with your self-image of power and perfection. But by definition, a narcissistic personality disorder causes problems in many areas of your life, such as relationships, work, school or your financial affairs. You may be generally unhappy and confused by a mix of seemingly contradictory emotions. Others may not enjoy being around you, and you may find your relationships unfulfilling.

If you notice any of these problems in your life, consider reaching out to a trusted doctor or mental health provider. Getting the right treatment can help make your life more rewarding and enjoyable

but the site based can make recommendations to the superintendent for the principal to be fired. I have been through site based training each year I served. The principal at each school was hired by JP because he talked the SBDM council into it.

Wrong about the council being able to recommend they be fired. THe council has no authority to do that. Only the Superintendent can fire and he does not have to have a recommendation from the council. That is not within the authority of the council.

So this is not true at all. There was no secretary fired under Powell's term at UC. People that don't like Powell are the one's that don't work. If you work hard and put the kids first, he is great to work for. Our scores did not tank this last time, we moved up again. Not as much as before but that is because we had climbed so much it had to slow down. He fired a bunch of teacher's when he came and everyone was upset. The fact was these teachers had become bored with their job and didn't put in the effort. The new staff is great and you should be happy you have JP on board. I would love for him to come back to UC. Don't make the mistake we did and run him off because of the "Good ol boy" mantality. Powell Rules!
Master manipulator, you better play his game! His motives are disturbing, personal agendas...... YES! About kids? Maybe... School and Community he says so..... If you are an innoncent victim of his madness you can relate. By the way Heffington is the real deal! LOL

Interesting discussion here.

Powell is all about himself. He is a bully. If he sees you as a threat or not toeing the company line you will be "reassigned." Several people have voluntarily resigned or retired because of how he has treated them. Good people that did their jobs well. He drove them out. Some of these he even begged to come back, but they wouldn't because of him. Ultimately it hurts the kids. The same kids he claims to be all about.

Facts:

He hired another personal secretary, number four, for $53k per year plus benefits.

He is renovating the new district office at a cost of tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of dollars. This, while some teachers still have CRT monitors or don't have enough books for their students.

His AD makes $85k per year, plus benefits.

He lured the new middle school principal to MC by offering him a $100k annual salary (plus benefits),$40k more than he made at his old job.

There are many other things that could be said. The stories have spread around town, though.

He is a psychology major who got the Board to give him the power to do whatever he wants. And he is. For himself and his career trajectory. Damn the kids. Damn the community. Hundreds of school employees plan to attempt to get jobs in different districts or even different industries because of the work environment Powell has created. The biggest enemy of success in business, sports, or education is a lack of consistency.

A new Board that will take away his title and put him in a corner in a room at the end of a desolate hallway is the only remedy.

Noone will ever agree on everthing, so if the scores comes up great, that only helps your kids peolple. Want I want to see if Powell holds true to his word about also straightening out the good old boys in coaching positions. I say say its time to start flushing every where and turn this district around.
As far as the board members that voted for Powell at least they realized things needed to change. Time will tell if Powell is the man for the job.
It seems alot of the complaints are from people that may have been part of the good ol boys and they r losing control.

Oh and Webster Ive seen you run your mouth on other subjects here, get off your ass stop collecting a goverment paycheck and be productive instead of degrading someone over thier language and spelling. Everyone has a right to an opionion regardless of education. That shows how small minded you are. Momma didn't teach you no manners.

Mr. Powell keep up with the changes as long as your doing it for the right reasons, we are all watching.

I'm sorry if I have offended. Perhaps I could have been wiser in my choice of words. However, I am so tired of reading complaints from people regarding this position who are very obviously not in this profession. But you are correct, they are entitled to their opinion. I have given my opinion on this forum and others. If that is "running my mouth", then I guess we all are.

Concerning manners, maybe you should look in the mirror. Assuming I receive government assistance is based on what? The fact that you didn't like what I said? THAT is rude and "small minded"!(Your assumption, by the way, couldn't be any farther from the truth).
