Nine Mt. Prospect Firefighters received layoff notices and one of three advance life support fire engines may be eliminated.
Monday Oct. 4th, 9 firefighter/paramedic/EMT’s started receiving layoff notices along with the demotion of 3 Lieutenant/paramedics.
In a letter dated Oct. 1 from Asst. Village Manager David Strahl these layoffs will become effective Jan. 1, 2011. The union was told the number of employees who take the early retirement incentive may offset the number of persons laid off. Nine Positions will still be eliminated leaving nine vacancies.
The Firefighters Union was told by fire administration that the downtown advance life support fire engine located at 112 E. Northwest Highway will be removed from service due to this reduction in staffing. This engine responded to over 2000 calls for help in 2009 and 1539 calls to date in 2010 making it the busiest engine in Mount Prospect.
“We are reviewing the proposed 2011 village budget” said union representative Torrie Wolczyz.“We have requested a meeting with the village to discuss the affects of these layoffs”

If you live north of the creek, East of Busse, West of Wolf and north to the village limits, you will be immediately effected but the engine responds village wide if assistance is beaded in the areas of the two other stations.

All fire engines are yours. It takes more than one to put out a fire. They also have alot of the same items that ambulances have to start to care for you or your loved one until an ambulance arrives. Thats why paramedics are also on the engine.

If I remember correctly, one of the people voting FOR the layoffs is a person who's life was actually SAVED by a Mt. Prospect paramedic! Wouldn't you think there'd be even a little show of gratitude to these fine people who risk their lives every day to save yours?
