moving the methadone clinic to this area will just bring all of the lovely drug addicts all to the same spot. so much for a family oriented area. that is no place for a methadone clinic. it needs to be near the police dept or a hospital, not in a shopping center. what kind of idiot thought of that spot. maybe we should just put it in a daycare. that would be safe.

I agree murfeesboro, but let capitalism take over from here. When the stores in this mall loose customers, when the stores shut DOWN and move out,the clinic can have the place all to themselves. And hey Sue Bridges i dont think anyone would disagree that local "problems"such as this need to be taken care of and "fixed local",but good grief lady what are you smoking? This is a " drug re-hab clinic" right? It needs to be in the hopsital area of town, not at a shopping mall that people bring their kids to buy candy and soda, come on Sue think about it????

This is just the government deciding what is best - and everyone should just accept it and move on.

Well, the people who voted for Obama should, anyway - it's what he and the dem leadership in Congress are enacting. The government decides what is best, and you just need to accept it.

So... if you voted for the O, shut your pie hole - it's the way of the future!

The clinic in my town is required by law to have a guard outside the building whenever the clinic is open.

what exactly is it you fear these patients will do? Stand around outside the clinic growling and snarling and drooling, looking for children to snatch and molest? People have these extreme preconceived notions about who MMT patients are--imagining them to be homeless, jobless crazies living under a bridge somewhere, or hardened street gang members, or people coming to get their "legal fix" and leaving higher than a kite. All of this is totally wrong. Methadone is the most successful method of treatment for opioid addiction available today, and the patients come from ALL walks of life and are addicted to prescription painkillers for the most part. Many are professionals--teachers, nurses, lawyers, etc. You interact with them every day without knowing it. Methadone does NOT cause any impairment or high in stable patients--that is why it is used.

AA and NA meetings are welcomes by townspeople--they meet in churches, libraries and even schools. Yet the 12 steps are FAR less effective in treating this disease--because it is a disease of the brain chemistry, not a "spiritual malady"--and as a result, MANY people in these meetings are high, drunk, in mid-relapse, etc. Yet they are likely receiving no counseling, no medical treatment, and the rate of effectiveness is abysmal. But they are welcomed and supported by townsfolk, who may believe falsely that everyone at such meetings is clean and free from alcohol/drugs. No one says "Hey, this NA group meets in my church at a time when kids are there and how can we trust these evil addicts next to our children?"--yet they DO say this about the far more effective methadone clinics.

Your comment makes no sense whatsoever.

Years ago a meth clinic in South Nashville opened up on Thompson Lane along the edge of a large subdivision and in front of a large catholic church, folks complained but it too. As is everyone's right to be heard, heck, if something like this opened where I live, shop, work etc. and there are OTHER options, I'll protest too. But no one can say that Obama or the current pres had anything to do with it. How do you figure the Columbia one is Obama's fault?

Kate, try actually reading for once.

All of Obama's acolytes want him and his dimowit majority to just ram things down our throats, whether it's a good idea or not. "For the children" and "it's fair" are their battle cries - and they encourage Obama to ignore the complaints of those who will be affected by his bad policy.

Here you have a perfectly parallel example - nobody wants this methadone clinic, but by God the local government has approved it anyway.

See the similarities yet???

So...if you're an Obama supporter, shut up. Only those of us who still believe in freedoms have the right to complain - you checked yours at the polling place door.

You still haven't answered my question, if methadone clinics have been "shoved down our throats" for over twenty years, how the heck is that Obama's doing? Have none of the presidents you ever voted for won an election? Were no methadone clinics opened during the terms of Clinton, Bush, and Bush Jr.? Apparently there were, I know of some...were these Obama's fault too? Did you vote for any of the past presidents? Do you even vote at all?

Kate, Kate, Kate, read my entries. I never said that Obama had anything to do with that methadone clinic. I am merely pointing out that many of the people complaining about the clinic would greet Obama's destruction of our health care system with open arms.

Guess they never taught reading for content and critical thinking where you went to school.

Hmmmmmm... let me guess who you voted for... Guess you need to shut up!

Wow, Kate(D), I just re-read my comment you referred to and you comprehended even less than I gave you credit for.

"Here you have a perfectly parallel example " - yup, never said anything about Obama connected to that methadone clinic.

Maybe you should put down the Grisham and try something a bit more intellectual?

Afraid to answer any of my questions?

Apparently you can't even figure out what it is you are comparing similarities to. What does this forum have to do w/healthcare?
The local govt approved the location, not Obama nor his administration, and regardless of who someone voted for they have the right to voice their opinion here and certainly within their community. The current nor past presidents have anything to do with WHERE a meth clinic is located, that is what this forum is about.

Your comments do not apply to this situation and apparently aren't even related within the same posts. Kindly refrain from telling me what I can or can't do.

So what is the big deal? The same people that use a meth clinic may be the same people you sit next to in church. They are from all walks of life. Get over it already. They are building it for treatment not drug sales to criminals. Sheesh!

I don't care where they put it. Most clinics aren't near hospitals. Why do they need to be. And if they want to put a clinic 20 miles out of town, then so be it. And I mean any town, I live in the middle of nowhere!

Daily Horoscope for December 29

Leo

It's hard to pin down a certain person today because they're being so vague and dithery. Ask them a question and they'll vacillate or be unable to give you a straight answer. You might suspect them of deceitful goings on but it's far more likely that they're simply in a world of their own and can't keep their mind on anything for long. Don't worry, they'll soon be back on planet earth.
