Don't know the whole story, but let me put a guess here. Cop. Drunk. Driving car. Hits "innocent" civilian motorist. Kills "innocent" civilian motorist. Does a plea deal for a lesser charge, but will probably lose job.
Wow. Tell me there aren't things call "double-standards" anymore, and I'll sure sell you some riverfront property. It only floods a teeny-tiny little.
I hope this guy never ever gets a restful nights sleep again for the rest of his life. I hope people label him a murderer. He get's what he deserves.

First, you only show your ignorance. From experience, do you know how many "average citizens/non police officers" get the SAME deal every single day?? It has nothing to do with him/her being a police officer. It has EVERYTHING do do with prior criminal record!!!! Being an officer for 10 years, I can tell you this happens all the time to non-police. Everyone wants to hop on the band wagon, thinking "cops" get special treatment. It only seems that way because the press only covers the actual trial/plea deal when it is a cop. For the average citizen, the results would never make the paper because no one would pay any attention to it!! You think "cops" have it so good, why don't you sign up and do the job yourself?? Probably because you wouldn't last a week doing and seeing what we do everyday. I don't justify what this "cop" did, and it was stupid. But, he WILL have to live with it for the rest of his life!!! Why should the punishment be MORE severe, just because he happened to be a cop?? Shouldn't he/she be treated like everyone else?? Isn't that what the public really wants and expects?? If it is, then he WAS treated like everyone else!!
I already know your going to have some kind of negative response, and defend your position. If you really want to defend it, check out the facts first, convictions/plea deals are public record. Why don't you check to see how many "average citizens" receive "sweet" deals as well for crimes they have commited
