People are starting to catch on to this "Greenway" garbage. It's all driven by the state in the form of "grants" (legal bribes) and ties into the whole Watermelon (green on the outside, red on the inside) plan to control ALL natural resources. Forget private property. The first step was zoning, the last step will be living in rental crackerboxes like squirrels in designated areas only. Everyone else will be taxed out of their homes and land just like seniors are today.

I don't get it. This county can spend tens of millions of public taxpayers dollars on FARMER WELFARE to purchase development rights and no one bats an eye.

However, propose a walking or biking trail and all of a sudden the 'bad government' and 'safety' factors comes out.

Let's call this opposition what it really is, notinmybackyardits and discrimination against potential 'unsavory elements'. Problem is, those concerns are almost always overblown and the 'problems' never seem to surface.

Through Dayhoff, our supervisors have admitted that the now passive green ways could become active! That is exactly what we do not want! We do not want active or passive green ways anywhere near our properties!
Also, I have been at the Twp. Supervisors meetings and the Supervisors HAVE seen that Plan and the map that goes with it. At least most of them have personal copies of it. How can Dayhoff say that they "haven't even seen it yet"???
We don't want the Twp. to just "welcome" our concerns--but to actually LISTEN to them!

If it was your backyard, and those "unsavory elements" were you immediate concern, you wouldn't think them overblown.

How dare you Mr. Dayhoff claim to be a spokesman for the township on this issue. You have been voted out of office twice by the voter only to be reappointed to office when someone has had to resign from office when they move out of the township. The voters voted Mr. Waybright out of office in the spring. Now he is running in the fall because the other party had no one on the ballot. The citizens of Mt. Joy township are tired of you trying to ruin our township. We vote both of you out, but you reappear like a plague.Don't you have the decentency to admit that the people do not want you any more. Voters speak out one more time. Vote for John Gormont and David Updyke to return us to the
way of like that was enjoyed by this township.

It is pretty obvious reading this article that it is a political "ploy" brought by a select group to become the new power in Mt.Joy. What the group doesn't realize is that both Mr.Gormont and Mr.Updyke have sold them a bill of goods of conspiracy theory and private property rights being lost in Mt.Joy Township. The instigator of the group has her house for sale to "get out of Dodge" before the stuff hits the fan. Check out the housing development Updyke proposed, check out the historic house that will come down when that happens and check out Updyke's "real address". I wonder how many of this "group" have volunteered in the Township at Mud College School or said something positive as opposed to all the negativity being presented.

Mt Joy township was a nice rural agricultural area when i moved in here,The taxes were not bad and the privacy was all around us,This township being mainly agricultural has no need for all these greenways and in the midst of a recession I can't see spending money on things that we really don't need.Theres numerous things if the township want to spend money on in our area that could be drasticly improved, especially bridges, and gaurd rails. How would you people like it if a bus load of people from downtown unloaded and came walking or riding bikes through your back yard?? This is a total invasion of peoples privacy,I did'nt move here to live in an area where I have to keep my curtains closed so nosey people are'nt peeping in!!!! If your a sportsman and a Hunter ,How would you like to be setting in your stand watching a nice buck coming in when 10 noisy people with dogs or horses or what ever else this township might allow,, come walking or riding up through and ruin everything!!!! Come on people get real, most everyone knows that very few local people are gonna use these socalled Greenways anyways!! But the local tax payer is gonna foot the bill!!! I certainly hope our wonderful township does'nt get any further in debt,,We'll be paying higher and higher taxes each year for the rest of our lives!!! Thank you for taking the time to read this..

There is no political ploy. My disapproval of this "comprehensive recreation, parks and open space plan" came long before I knew the platform of any candidate for supervisor. The concerned citizens of Mount Joy township are simply that... concerned land owners. The survey presented to the land owners last year is simply skewed. When asked "in an ideal setting" would you like X and Y? Well, I think a lot of people like parks and trails - but to impact the entire township as outlined by the Plan goes well beyond the basis of the survey. Rather than using the statistics of the "wish list" survey, a new survey should be used. "64% of Mt Joy township residents like the idea of parks and trails." Well, what is it now, Supervisors? Do you have a % approval rating for the comprehensive plan? The plan developed by our Supervisors goes well beyond the survey's suggestions. Financially, this is not the time. Ecologically, this is not the way. Human impact on rural lands is worse with this plan than what the land owners are doing now - maintaining a natural environment for our diverse wildlife - species ranging from bobcat and fox to Blue Heron and owls. Because of this negative ecological impact, I will do all I can to block this plan from being the final Mount Joy township land plan. Dayhoff said specifically "we welcome the community's concerns and questions." Well, your community is concerned and we have questions. Listen and answer.

This issue really isn't political, I don't know why people are making all the angry comments about how this "group" is trying to take over the township. Here's the simple truth: there's a group of neighbors who do not want ANY greenways designated near their homes and they all signed a petition emphatically stating that they want the greenway designation (pertaining only to the greenway near our homes) REMOVED from the draft Rec Plan. Now how is that polical??? After stating this same thing in many meetings and being ignored and called "a small minority, who is never happy" these folks decided to do a petition to prove that it's not just a few people. So I guess they hit a nerve and now the township supervisors, their entire staff, and the entire Rec Board have circled their wagons and are trying to make people feel sorry for them, like they're the ones being attacked. No, I think they're trying to hide something.

Why does MtJoy township need any kind of recreation?? Theres no place in our township thats more tha 15 mins from the National Military Park in Gettysburg,, Theirs all the recreation you could ever dream of there,, If not just go a little further up the road (a 25 mins. to 1/2 hour ride) to all the state forest above Ortanna!! Theirs a whole mountain to go ride ,,hike or play for days and not see the same trees,,The Township supervisors need to stop spending the TAX PAYERS MONEY on DUMB things and start thinking about improving what we have, not wasting our money on a pipe dream by a few.

I'm voting for Updyke & Gormont,, We need new supervisors!! The ones that have been in there for 2 terms have made too many connections with big money, I feel the taxpayers are gonna be hung out to dry if we don't get a change in govt. Its pretty simple, MtJoy township at this point and time does'nt need any over spending for foolish things. We need our money spent wisely till the economy improves! I know of some very nice people within our township that are having very hard times, even to the point of forclosure on there houses,Why would the supervisors want to spend foolishy now WERE IN A RECESSION!!!!

Theres something fishy about this whole thing,,The election and the Greenway, I'm sure it will all come out in the wash one day.

I get sick of hearing the "nimbys" also. But in this case, if they own that back yard, it should be theirs to do with as they see fit.

Okay, NoNimby, you're saying that to well over 80 people who signed the petition and many have lived here all their lives. I don't think this is about "what I want and only what I want...", it is about personal property rights and the current supervisors don't seem to be listening but instead they are spitting out excuses faster than you can blink. "My right" is right, wash day will make it all come out.

It seems to me that this group of people signing a petition based on incorrect information needs to understand things before they sign their names.

The current board of supervisors have aided in making the township a beautiful place to live. They are preserving large areas of land...from WILLING landowners.
They have no intentions of taking anyones property...and have never given the opinion that they would take property.
When the outlets came to Mount Joy, the current board(minus one watchdog supporter who was not on the board at the time), allowed them to build their large shopping district...with restrictions that have benefited the township. Does anyone realize that any repairs to the lights by the outlets are the responsibility of the outlet owners...yes not the taxpayers like it is in many other townships.
The only fault notable to the Board of supervisors is the tax increase last year...the first on in how many years? and still one of the lowest in the area. but let the new supervisors fire employees and get rid of road crew and equipment(which is what they proposed at their public forum this past week). Then when you want a permit, or have road issues, or a tree down, or any other issue...lets see where that will leave you.

How can Dr. Dayholf say the board hasn't looked at the map since it was published in June 2009.and they responded to the partitioners on October 29, 2009 with a two page letter about they issues they they have never seen. You can not pull the wool over my eyes with such falsehoods.
Mr. Waybright,Mr. Chantelau and Mr. Dayhoff you are not to be trusted and you should RESIGN from office. Our township does not need two face, power hungry people like you who does not give damn about the residence in office
