There was no "Survey" from 2009 as Mr. Chanteleau allegedly states. He's speaking about a Comprehensive Planning Document Prepared by the YSM Group from York County with over 381,000 residents that was turned over to the 2009 Supervisors for review at last December'S meeting. The Planning Document states that MJT is a small, rural community with LIMITED resources. Then it goes on to tell you HOW this SMALL. Rural community of Limited Resources of just over 3,000 residents are going to pay for NEW parks, biking paths and recreation AND land preservation with our LIMITED resources. It goes on to say that WE should preserve ALL the farms and create Paths and Parks and Recreation by EXPANDING the $3Million Bond we haven't even paid for yet. Then the PLAN says we should do it in 10 years what MJT didn't do in it's previous 268 year history. It's Sunday. Let's all pray that the New supervisors READ the PLAN VERY Carefully because WHEN/IF they approve it, it will become a LEGAL MJT Document giving them the right to spend OUR TAX Dollars. Let US create a document authored by MJT Residents. Let us UTILIZE the Recreation/Parkland that already exists IN OUR AREA.

If Mr Duncuck and Steel are so possitive on Updyke's plans why didn't they stay and fight for what they belive in so strongly?

As far as Mr Updyke it sounds like you have him where you want him. He is now under the spotlight. He can't leagaly rezone his own property while on the board.

wow you are wrong, rezoning can happen anytime and as long as it is not spot zoning can be done on anyones property. The only thing is that he could not vote on the change. I do not think that would be a problem anyway since the board will be totally stacked after they appoint two new supervisors. This is not the only township that has lost very valuable employees through either just change for change sake, political reasons or supposed economic reasons. The code enforcement officer in Straban, the manager in Carrol Township and others. The residents know all to well that out sourcing is not economically viable since a contractor will in the end cost you more, they will charge for each call, each minute and each bit of research they have to do. Research I might add which would not be necessary for the in place employees. The elected officials are losing sight of what public service is supposed to be and are to hung up on their self created importance. It is almost laughable when you really talk to the officials and hear the importance they place on themselves. The loss of Chantlau in Mt. Joy is a tremendous loss to the township, to the COG and to PSATS. He was a devoted supervisor. Unlike the newly elected ones there or the two newew ones in Straban. In Straban one has a swollen head that he is the person "running" the township and the other has made sure that she is on all kinds of committess in the county and is involved in the day to day operation of the township that makes the employees afraid to make any decisions. This from a person who has very little experience in the municipal world and absolutely no experience in the business world and like it or not management experience from the business world carries over into politics. When will the people stand up who really would serve and not look to be powerful or dictatorial run for office

One of the main problems with this comment section is the IGNORANCE of the facts JOY--if you would check the Mt.Joy Township records(File a Freedom of Information Act at the Township) you would see that Mr.Steele has not been on the Mt.Joy Planning Commission for quite a while. He did not resign; he thought it was time for new people to step up for the Township. Instead of posting HEARSAY on websites why not "volunteer" for some of these township committees!

Okay, you can volunteer, you can request to be on boards and committees, but it is 100% up to the Board of Supervisors as to who is appointed. Let us not be neive.

First of all it's "naive." And that's exactly what the voters of Mt Joy Twp were when they voted the new superintendents in. For the new superintendents to ran on the platform of a more transparent local government, they sure don't like to answer a lot of questions. How many times, in the short time they've been in office have we heard, "I will not comment on that," or "we will not discuss that?" Mt. Joy Twp lost some honest, hard working and caring supervisors--what a shame!!

Just for the record, that should have read--For the new superintendents WHO ran on the platform----and, eventhough that last post says I'm from Arendtsville, I am not, so don't start telling me that anyone in Arendtsville should have no interest in the goings on in Mt Joy Twp.

Some of the people who have posted comments about the happenings in Mt Joy have talked about Gormont and Updyke running on a platform of "transparency". I think you are mixing them up with the Obama administration. I remember Gormont and Updyke coming to my house and saying they were running on a platform of "fiscal responsibility and no eminent domain." There's a difference.

I think all of this is a shame. In the last 13 days that these guys have been in office we hear more about not commenting, than actually answering the questions. As for the talk about the YSM survey and plan, I think you guys (citizens and supervisors both) need to read it very carefully. All of the gormont/updyke supporters are stuck on alot of misinformation. And the Township lost more than 3 employees that day. Long time Zoning officer, Dave Crouse, resigned due to the changes they were making. These new supervisors have set the township back 10-20 years in how things were done. They have their own hiden agenda's and are constantly talking amongst their selves. It will show at this weeks meeting when all of the decisions are once again made beforehand.

ghoti, they did run on fiscal responsibility and no eminent domain, along with having a more transparent government. Even the platform that you feel they were running on was misleading and you were dumb enough to go with it. When was eminent domain ever discussed in the Township? They misled and you followed behind. Way to go

GASD parent: Unfortunately the next openings are for 2 positions to take office in January of 2012. Then Rhodes position will be 2 years from that. So for at least 4 years this will be the majority.

for those that want to correct misspellings, they should not make mistakes in their posts, we elect supervisors not superintendents.

You are assuming I voted for them. Do you honestly know I voted for them? The truth might suprise you. I really don't see a reason to call me "dumb". This is a forum for voicing our opinions, not dragging each other in the dirt. People can have differences of opinion without resorting to name calling.

tired of it all you said when was eminent domain ever mentioned? When Keystone Homes wanted to put homes on the Golf Course and wanted to use White Run Regional Municipal Authority and Sam Dayhoff had the bright idea to put a bike path overtop the sewer lines the board talked about eminent domain. Oh of course they said that WRRMA would do it not them but I was at the meeting where they literally forced WRRMA's hand to exercise eminent domain on the landowners. Do not believe me - go to WRRMA and ask for the minutes of the meeting about the Westminster development - it states in there very clearly that the Mount Joy supervisors were pushing for eminent domain. Also check the minutes of the special meeting held with the supervisors and WRRMA at the township records.

Oh Come On",
The Supervisors NEVER had any intention of forcing eminent domain. Keystone was requesting WWRMA service their area. For that to happen WWRMA would have had to use eminent domain. Get your facts straight.
"ghoti",
I have to agree with you on the name calling thing. Although at the same time, name calling or the bashing of Dayhoff an/or Waybright are really uncalled for. Everyone can say what they want, but the fact of the matter is that nobody can prove any mishappening with them. The new guys, are proving otherwise for themselves.
