Who makes your list?

With the passing of Mandela and the reflection of his life who do you consider the greatest humans of all-time? I tried to make a top 5 but I don't think 5 is enough. Maybe a top 10 would work. I don't think I could rank them though. What 10 people do you think moved us forward as a species not by invention but by their humanity and brotherhood?

In no particular order Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Oskar Schindler, Martin Luther King jr., Abraham Lincoln, Jesus of Nazareth, Buddha, Mother Teresa, Confucius and the Dalai Lama

Honorable mention to Bishop Desmond Tutu and Mikhail Gorbachev

Hmm..."Not by invention, but by their humanity and brotherhood," you say... but in many cases, isn't the invention a product of someone's humanity and brotherhood? Sure, these days, invention and innovation is a bit more about creating the next big thing to earn millions, but in the past, people worked hard to bring ideas to life in the hopes of benefiting the world... not just their pockets. Inventors are no different from religious leaders and philosophers in this one sense... they all have an idea, maybe a bit radical for its time, that they feel is worthwhile. They work, and write, and mold the idea into greater detail until they have something suitable to show others... then they present the idea to the world as if to say, "what do you think?" causing a chain affect of inspiration, and thought, that progresses mankind further. People might say "Wow I never thought of that. Cool! But we can take it a step further." or "Wow... You are so off. I could do a better job. It should be this way." and they keep moving forward, either with or against these ideas, branching out until there is almost no plan left unmade, no thought left un-thought, and no dreamy idea left without being delved into... almost... there will always be more, of course. If these people did not have a sense of humanity, they likely would never have thought of anything different in the first place... and if there was no sense of brotherhood, they would not have shared or placed their trust on the public for anything as personal as a new, different idea.

Anyway,as far as my list... Jesus Christ, Buddha, Martin Luther King Jr., Abraham Lincoln, Confucius, Rene Descartes, Sir Isaac Newton, William Shakespeare, Kitaro Nishida, Frederick Douglass....In no specific order of course... oh and just some personal favorites Oda Nobunaga (rather the story of Oda Nobunaga), Yasuhiro Wada, and Junko... These 3 didn't have any profound affect on all of mankind... but they certainly have their influences on me right now. XD

Yea I see your point. I think I just couldn't put it into words. Inventing not for just the economic gain or inventing something radical that would put you in the same danger as the freedom fighter yea those are the same kind of people I'm talkin about.

Thanks for giving me some people to research.

No prob... though you don't need to bother with researching Yasuhiro Wada, or JUNKO... They're just creative types I kinda admire right now. Wada, created my favorite video game series, and JUNKO wrote some of my favorite stories... nothing special. JUNKO isn't even her real name.
