Just what we need as a nation, more people looking for a handout.

I don't mean to be nitpicky... but no where in your source, or in that source's source material, does it mention them being Somali... I know they were, because I read the full article here:

http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/local...

but yeah... I'm being nitpicky. ALSO, it's not like they were looking to get something for nothing. the applications are on a first come first serve basis and there's a limit of 200. I'm sure no one would have really expected close to 2000 to show, but from what I read and heard from the video, the housing is affordable and spacious enough for their families, qualities in very high demand, no matter who you are.

It IS a shame they couldn't be more orderly about it.Rushing the poor person trying to set up is no way for adults to behave, no matter how desperate for decent housing you are.

That's too bad. Opportunities for affordable housing like that don't come by too often. People really need to have more self-control if they want to get things done.

There you go with that entitlement mentality again.
"it's not like they were looking to get something for nothing."
It is subsidized housing, and just who do you think is subsidizing it? We can't just import people from the 3rd world who bring nothing to America except a desire to live at taxpayers expense. We as a nation are broke. Importing people with little respect for the property of others and a strong desire to get something for nothing or next to nothing isn't going to end well at all. Nothing is free in America. If you got something for nothing, someone had to work for it.

What entitlement? This program was completely public, and first come first serve... anyone of low income, immigrant or not, could have shown up here. These programs exist to try and keep low-income families from ending up homeless, especially families. The requirements for the housing, included a job and a rent payment. And What do you know of what the people in this situation desire? You don't. I'd bet you many of those families there looking to apply, wanted to be able to afford something beneficial to their children... like a proper meal... books to read... materials for school. You'd be surprised how many children go without these things because their parents earn only enough to pay the bills, and feed them (and probably not quite enough)the cheapest, least healthy, over-processed crap they can find... You'd be surprised how many of those kids getting free lunch at school, get that lunch as their only proper meal for the day, sometimes their ONLY meal of the day at all. And there are students like that in EVERY school district, regardless of race, or citizenship... are their parents just moochers?

And another thing, I've been wanting to correct you on this... "Import"? What are they food products files and merchandise? You don't import people, unless you wanna talk about the slave trade... Africans, in the past, being considered merchandise, were imported, but still... People immigrate. And, assuming that these people came through legal methods, they have every right to be here, so deal with it.

You want America to pick and choose who comes, well it's not how things work... We have our pride and no matter what we will always keep calling ourselves "the land of equal opportunity" and keep our borders open to those wishing to live here... If we stopped, we'd might as well just tear down the Statue of Liberty and burn "The New Colossus". It's "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free" not "Give me your lively, rich, and wealthy masses" so with your complaints of poor people from 3rd world countries coming more often than people already well off... What on Earth did you expect?

Well said... though I'm sure you'd agree that our immigration system needs a bit of an overhaul. Too many people get past the system and come here illegally. We can't do too much about those already here... especially when the have children born here... but we can do what we can to oust those without families staked down, and keep the illegal methods from happening so often. Also, the process is very slow, I hear. I have a neighbor that says it took 5 years to come here. She followed the rules, filed all of the paper work... came here on a visa and found a job... went back when here visa ran out and waited patiently... Then after 6 months the job position she was supposed to fill was taken and she had to find another job and file that paperwork to be process with immigration... Then she'd come on a visa again, and get a job... work while she's here and leave again once here visa time was up. She lost job opportunity after job opportunity waiting for legal passage... luckily she still had a job in her home country, but she said it was very frustrating.

"What entitlement? This program was completely public, and first come first serve... anyone of low income, immigrant or not, could have shown up here." Yes open the immigration flood gates from the 3rd world. Give them free reduced cost housing food stamps etc.

"You want America to pick and choose who comes, well it's not how things work..."
And lets see just how our immigration policy has fared so far shall we?
1974 Summer: "Alphabet Bomber" Muharem Kurbegovich bombs the Pan Am Terminal at Los Angeles International Airport killing three and injuring eight. He also fire bombed the houses of a judge and two police commissioners as well as one of the commissioner's cars. He burned down two Marina Del Rey apartment buildings and threatened Los Angeles with a gas attack. His bomb defused at the Greyhound Bus station was the most powerful the LAPD bomb squad had handled up until that time. His personal vendetta against a judge and the commissioners grew into demands for an end to immigration and naturalization laws, as well as any laws about sex.[23]
1976 September 11: Croatian terrorists hijack a TWA airliner diverting it to Gander, Newfoundland and Labrador, and then Paris demanding a manifesto be printed. One police officer was killed and three injured during an attempt to defuse a bomb that contained their communiques in a New York City train station locker.[25] Zvonko Bušić who served 32 years in prison for the attack was released and returned to Croatia to a heroes welcome in July 2008.[26]
1980 June 3: Bombing of the Statue of Liberty. At 7:30 pm, a time delayed explosive device detonated in the Statue of Liberty's Story Room. Detonated after business hours, the bomb did not injure anyone, but caused $18,000 in damage, destroying many of the exhibits. The room was sealed off and left unrepaired until the Statue of Liberty restoration project that began years later. FBI investigators believed the perpetrators were Croatian seeking for media coverage of living conditions of Croats in Yugoslavia, though no
1993 January 25: CIA Shooting: Mir Aimal Kasi opened fire to cars waiting at the stop light in front of CIA Headquarters in Langley, VA killing two and injuring three others.
1993 February 26: First World Trade Center bombing killed six and injured 1,000. The attack was carried out by radical Islamist Ramzi Yousef, a member of Al Qaeda.
1994 March 1: The Brooklyn Bridge Shooting occurred when Lebanese-born Rashid Baz shot at a van of Jewish students that was traveling on the Brooklyn Bridge from a visit to Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson1997 February 24: 69-year-old Palestinian Ali Hassan Abu Kamal opens fire on tourists at an observation deck atop the Empire State Building killing a Danish national and wounding visitors from the United States, Argentina, Switzerland and France before turning the gun on himself.[32] A handwritten note carried by the gunman claims this was a punishment attack against the "enemies of Palestine". His widow claimed he became suicidal after losing $300,000 in a business venture. In a 2007 interview with the New York Daily News his daughter said her mother's story was a cover crafted by the Palestinian Authority and that her father wanted to punish the United States for its support of Israel.[33]
2000: 2000 New York terror attack Three young men of Arab descent hurled crude Molotov cocktails at a synagogue in The Bronx, New York to "strike a blow in the Middle East conflict between Israel and Palestine".2001 September 11: September 11, 2001 attacks carried out by Al-Qaeda. The attacks killed nearly 3,000 civilians, and were carried out by Islamic fundamentalists using hijacked commercial airplanes to damage the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, ultimately destroying both 110-story skyscrapers. The Pentagon near Washington, D.C., was also severely damaged. Building 7 of the World Trade Center was also destroyed in the attack.
Undie bomber and d.c. snipers too.

You've missed my point...

And we have plenty of "domestic terrorists" too... You really find it fair to punish or begrudge everyone from these other places because of the actions of a few?

Oh yeah, our system is in dire need of improvement. The security for starters, and I agree that those that haven't laid familial stakes yet can be ousted with relatively little guilt on the governments part. Aren't they supposed to be working on an overhaul on our immigration system in congress? I remember hearing about it... and how, as usual, they can't agree on anything, but i haven't heard anything in a while. First things first, we need to try to put a stop to people coming in illegally. Then we can tackle all of the other issues, bit by bit. The process taking too long is part of why people try to come illegally... don't have the patience to spend however long it takes to come over... in theory it's only supposed to take a month or two... but for some reason, I always hear about people applying and filing out paperwork and getting fingerprinted, then being told that something was lost, or being told that their application has expired before they even know if they were approved or not...

I didn't say any such thing did I? However it would be prudent to look a little closer at immigrants or prospective immigrants from say Yemen than Switzerland. Or are one to believe people from everywhere can be terrorist and everyone should be treated the same.
Last I looked the statue of liberty didn't say "give me your huddled masses yearning to blow us to smithereens."
It is no different from locking your door at night. You don't want undesirables coming in.

Well said. Something is wrong with having immigrants living in sect. 8 housing and getting food stamps.
Like the way they parked on peoples lawns and blocked driveways of the very people who work and pay taxes so they can sponge off the system.

We should be looking closely at EVERYONE regardless... part of why our immigration system isn't perfect.

So... none of them had jobs?... because if they didn't... they were REALLY wasting their time applying to the reduced rent housing that they'd need a job and means of payment to be eligible for. I know plenty of people who have jobs... but don't earn enough to support themselves, so they get food stamps. Not every person, immigrant or whatever, who get's federal aid is merely a leech. Many of them... though admittedly not all, pay into the system, federal, or state, just like everyone else... perhaps not as much, but they still pay...

I got news for you. The vast majority of terror suspects we have captured practice Islam and come from regions of the world with unstable Islamic populations in various stages of rebellion.
I would rather they give greater scrutiny to Habib from Pakistan than Ingrid from Sweden. Profiling for terrorists works!

yes... because that's what we have to worry about now... those are the kinds of people we've pissed off the most, recently... This is America, we have a history of pissing people off and making enemies for ourselves... But you never know who we're gonna piss off next, and for the sake of fairness, it's best to assume that we can have a terrorist come from anywhere... even allied countries.
