Why is Burlington City so dirty looking? There is trash everywhere! And York Street is the worst. The people there are so loud. The police are always there because these people are always causing problems!!

I remember back when I used to "cruise" down High St. back in the late 60's-early 70's it was a good town.We had a good time there.

Wow! I enjoyed reading all these posts! This one caught my eye, but I just moved to Burlington about 6 years now and have a kid, we are slowly finding the cool parks, and hidden treasures the area has to offer, I grew up in a small town in Central Jersey, but never knew of this area and it's steep history! I can feel the effects of the economy many restaurants and business have closed even since I first visited B-City 6 years ago...but there is an effort to revitalize!
To update:
-the fireworks and parades on Burlington Day and other Holidays are still a "to-Do" thing, but you can get "shut out" on popular days, if you're too late to arrive.
-There is an Italian restaurant that I watched open, and luckily they are still in business, My Wife and I enjoy them, go at least once a month...but I can't imagine they are "thriving?"
-There is Still the oldest Drugstore in America. but doesn't seem to do much business other than locales without cars able to get the basics... there and still see kids walking to and fro! So I hope they stay afloat!
-B-City planted a Christmas tree (near the Anchor) at the renovated River side Park, My wife and I saw it planted and take our pitcher in front of it every year! I used to be the same height, it's now 20 feet tall or so, there is also a built up fitness trail along the Delaware, with little stations for pull-up, etc, including some weights that are tethered, Very nice!
-The B-City improvements are helping in the past 6 years I have seen more out-of-state plates and even ran into a couple from Vermont, staying at a B&B on High Street! So it's great to have a nice scenic place to picnic and listen to free concerts in the summertime so close to home!
