Just came back from a funeral in the boro for a family member. Hard to find any good left in that town. Had a great pizza steak at Gaetanos on Kennedy Way..too bad the restaurant is falling apart with the rest of the dilapidated former ACME strip. Had great pizza at Riccardos at Van Sciver and Kennedy..Jack still owns the joint and Jose remembered my sister who delivered pizzas there for many years and treated us to a killer pie...THANKS Jose!!!! Very sad to see the town crumbling and many houses suffering from neglect. Was also disappointed to see all the development of the old farmlands in Mt Laurel and Moorestown as well. They have no personality and everyone up there looks unhappy. I sure miss the food but that's about it and I will stay here in beautiful Clearwater, Florida right down the street from the Phillies stadium and vacation at my property in Highlands NC Thank You....

When the 3rd world moves in, you become the 3rd world.Abandoned homes, robberies , murders and failing schools.
Willingboro town watch is all white in an 80% black town. Way to many blacks just don't care about schools and what's left of their community.
Then they name a road after M.L.K. in the segregated town they have created.
Willingboro is one of the if not the wealthiest majority black towns in N.J.
What have you accomplished in your black utopia? What are you proud of?
The county has had two murders this year, both happened in the town you call home.

From what I've heard Willingboro was once considered white trash from the surrounding towns. Any truth to this because the guy who told me this said that former white residents will not make claim to it because they think their not white trash

Willingboro wasn't " White trash". It was a solid middle class community. Crime and school records from 40 years ago show the residents had middle class values. Not as nice as say Delran or Mt. Laurel but not bad at all back in the 60's early 70's.
One need only read this forum and the copious crime reports to see just what/who is the problem in Willingboro. By comparison people write about a murder that happened over 40 years ago and still ask questions about it.
Willingboro now has had 2 murders so far this year with 6 months to go. Nobody asks about them because murder is all too common in Willingboro at present times.
Boarded up foreclosed homes and failing schools are major issues in Willingboro.
People seem to blame external forces such as predatory lending for the housing issue. All the while doing what residents do best. Neglect personal responsibility.
Willingboro is a far worse off community then it was 40 years ago.
You as a people need to own up to the issues facing your community and stop blaming external forces or racism for your problems.
You as a town are nearly 3/4ths black.

Yet as a prior poster pointed out look at who is on neighborhood watch.

Yup they are all white!
If 3/4ths of the population can't come together to help solve problems you are doomed!

WOAH! I never even knew there was an official neighborhood watch! In my part of town, my neighbors and I just have our own little network to watch each others backs... Like this one time a year ago when someone was trying to break into the house two houses down from mine. One neighbor noticed, called up the house owners said, "hey did you know there was someone in your backyard? No? okay I'll call the police for you" and then he called around to ask everyone around that house to turn on their yard lights. And of course since most of the people on my street have dogs, when someone sees a lot of deer around, they call around to warn people to watch that a stag doesn't go after their dogs. We just do little stuff for ourselves like that. Never knew there was an official watch to work with. Sweet! thanks for the post!

Oh also, just because all of the head officers of the watch are white, doesn't mean there are ONLY white members. When I just now excitedly asked my parents if they knew about the watch, while my dad knew nothing about it, mom remembered that one of our neighbors became a block captain in the watch a year or so ago... and he's certainly not white... XD

We moved there when I was a baby and stayed until I was 8 (1978). Lived on Twig Lane in Twin Hills on a road with lots of kids my age. It was idyllic, as I remember.
Concerts in Brodio Park, chasing the ice cream man, Fun Day in the Park at Mill Creek, Pomeroys at the Plaza, McDonalds on Bev. Rancocas Road and the man who owned it always giving us little gifts when we visited.
Walking to school- about 1/2 mile as kindergartners, went to nursery school at Temple Emanuel.
My parents made the decision to move to Mt. Laurel when I was in third grade and it was probably the right choice but I really do wish I got to grow up in the Willingboro I remember.
I left NJ about 15 years ago but every time I go back, I try to visit the 'Boro.
We followed similar paths. We moved in 77, after 9 great years in Willingboro. All the things you mentioned, I remember well. It was a GREAT place to live back then. I now live in Atlanta and would never move back, but I will always love Willingboro.

Riccardo's pizza was one of the best pizza places around during the 70s. Millcreek Park had that great big hill to go sledding during the winter. We left in 1982.

We moved because of the increase in violent crime, the declining quality of the schools, the transient people who didn't take care of their houses and moved every 2-4 years, my mother got beat and mugged at the Kennedy plaza, both cars got windows smashed for spare change, house was broke into twice and no one caught.
We moved to Maryland. Not one thing has happened to us here in the 15 years we been here that happened in Willingboro in the 10 years we suffered there. So what was so wrong about us moving away? We're racists for moving?

Do yourself and your family a favor and stay the Hell away from that Cess pool. My brother reluctantly bought a house on Buckeye lane a year ago, and the township needled him about every stinkin little detail before he could get their "approval" sign off to move in. They said the asphalt driveway cracks had to be repaired? WTF? And the gutters being cleaned is the business of the twp? This black twp woman was definitely treating my white brother with racism by making him jump through hoops to get the house certified " to her liking" so he could move in. Oh.. and get this. You pay PLENTY of property taxes, and they force you to maintain the property, but you DONT own the property. You only own the house, not the front lawn, back lawn, and any of the land around the house! SMH!
