There's a great townhouse I found in Country Estates (the 9-12 year old section of it), but I hear mixed things about that neighborhood. Is it a safe, well-regarded community? Should I be concerned about these reports of rising gang activity in the township?

On the one hand, the townhouse I'm looking at is beautiful, and near new construction going for $280K+. On the other, I hear the nearby White Hall and Dorodo Gardens are shady at best. Plus the 19-year old section of Country Estates could use some re-paving at the very least. The association should also ban cars on cinder blocks.

I'm also worried about rising property taxes. I contacted the Lumberton tax assessor, and he estimated the tax on the $250,000 townhouse I'm looking at would be $3900 next year. Is there any advantage to living in Lumberton over Mount Laurel, Marlton, Cherry Hill, etc. when taxes are almost exactly the same and per capita crime is higher?

There seem to be fewer services in Lumberton, which doesn't even have its own township library like Mt. Laurel and Cherry Hill do.

We love the potential house, but not yet sold on the town. Any insight into what life in Lumberton is like is appreciated. At the very least, it seems less crowded (at least for now). Thanks!

I live in Lumberton Whitehall Apartments and have had no problems. I am in front and right next to the rental office, which I believe is part of the reason I have no problems. The area had been bad news in years past, but had been heading in the right direction. Over a year ago, an area known as the Gardens had been eliminated. The Gardens were known for criminal activity. When that closed a lot of the element from the gardens moved to lumberton, specfically Whitehall and Dorado Gardens. To sum up, I like Whitehall and is perfectly suited to my needs at the moment. As I establish myself in the business world I will remain in Whirhall, but when I am in a position to raise a family I may stay in Lumberton, but I do not intend to stay in that area of Lumberton.
I hope this helps put the area in some perspective

I just moved out of Lumberton but I lived in one of the upscale communiies near Rt 38 close to Mount Laurel. The bottom line, Lumberton is a nice community but that area you are talking about isn't that good, lots of crime and shootings nearby. I would not recommend moving into that area for investment purposes. If you can afford Bobby's Run or the more upscale developments on the other side of town, go for it. But realize that taxes are pretty high, and the RV school district has a poor reputation, although I believe LT schools are pretty good.

I Live in Lumberton near Whitehall apts and I can assure you there are no shootings going on. I have lived in the area for 9 years and it's actually pretty quiet and friendly. Your best bet is to talk to the neighbors in the area that you want to move into. Then you will get a better idea of the area.
Best wishes.

Lumberton is a wonderful place to live. It is a very quiet and quaint town. I do not know what the "former resident" was talking about. I have known of only one shooting, and it was not in the neighborhood that you are interested in. My boyfirend happens to live in country estates and i visit him often. As far as I know there is no
"gang activity", as i feel very safe when i am at his house. RV's school district may have a poor reputation, but it offers top notch education. Lumberton is the place to be.

If you value your life, dont move to Country Estates or anywhere near it. Lots of stabbings and violent crime.Plus a friend of mine had his car keyed twice in a two month period for no apparent reason.
As far as a local Library, you don't need one in Lumberton because of the HUGE county Library two miles away in Westampton.
I use that Library like mad to take out all the free recent movie releases.

I think it's funny that a person from Camden said not to live in Lumberton. I heard more people tell me not to even visit Camden than I can count. I've been to Camden twice... with my foot on the gas all the way through! lol! I bought property in Lumberton and so far I love it. I move from down south and expected the wosrt, from this area and New Jeresy in general but I love this neighborhood. It's extremely quiet... almost too quiet sometimes, but it's peaceful. Of course there are areas that I wouldn't choose to live but they aren't ghetto... not yet at least. lol!

Im not FROM Camden bro, because I value my life. It just says my hometown is Camden because thats where my nearest ISP server is that my computer locates, and automatically adds it to my posts. I know about Lumberton because I live in Lumberton. Im just saying I've experienced A LOT of vandalism and violence in the area of whitehall apartments and surrounding areas.

No doubt Lumberton is a joke. If your a millionare, you can live in Bobby's hunt where its nice, or in one of the Mc-Mansions closer to Medford. But if your an average joe, you live by Whitehall apartments,or country estates with all the white trash. Hope you dont mind looking at used needles at your curbside.

John is quite misinformed. We have lived in CE for 15 years in phase 2 and have had ZERO crime issues. No vandalism, let alone break-ins or these violent crimes. Needles???? Where is this guy looking? My guess is John makes remarks based on misinformation & assumptions. White trash? John, you sound like an ignorant child and uneducated bigot. How far did you go in school, moron? You'd be surprised at how little you know about things. How much money do I make and what do I do for a living? Am I white trash?

I'm not comparing Lumberton to any other town, imbecile. What I am conveying is that where I live in Country Estates, it is peaceful and quiet. You clearly are uneducated, very young and ignorant, just plain stupid, or all of the preceding. Look at your post from before--"if your" is used incorrectly twice. Someone who at least graduated high school would know that it should be "if you're". Not a typo on YOUR part, just a showcase of your stupidity. I'm sure you must live with your parents. This is, by the way, my last post as you are just not worth any more time.

I lived in Lumberton for about 6 years with my parents in a single family home not far from Whitehall apartments, but the crime rate got worse and I was bullied and beat up several times. My folks called police more than once but I didnt want to identify my attackers to police if I was going to be living near them, plus I knew they carried guns,so we later moved to Medford.Lumberton is dangerous in many areas, because of the blacks.

I am looking at Coventry Glen Development in Lumberton. Some of these comments concern me. I don't knoe the area and am living more in central Jersey. The prices seem low for the houses I see for sale. Especially compared to surrounding areas. Does anyone know what this development is like. If it is near a bad area...
Thanks,

Thanks,
Yup, its really bad there. Beatings, knife point attacks, assaults with a battery, car jackings, dogs running wild and humping each other in the street, cats humping dogs, really sick stuff. Don't move there.

It has good and bad. The new housing developments are decent. The apartment and townhome complex's are where the problems are. A lot of snotty people too. They like to think Lumberton is "Upscale". It really isnt.
