Does anybody recall anything about a kid from the Pennypacker section being kidnapped in the 60s and then being found tied to a tree in North Carolina?

No...but I remember the wife of a State trooper who was apparently a chemist at the SP Barracks. She was opening her garge door, in Twinhills, when a bomb that was apparently rigged to kill her husband, blew her to bits. Authorities said they found pieces of her in the hair of her kids who were playing on the sidewalk out front.

It was rumored that it was a "mob hit", but no one was ever charged to my recollection. He moved away soon after that. That was back in the early 70,s.

I remember the blast! I lived in Hawthorne Park and I was home from school that day. I heard the blast and swear I saw the window shake!

Yes I do; his name was David Wolf. I knew him, he was in my Kindergarten class. Our teacher Miss Hulse ironically was niece to the Governor of the state of New Jersey. It was a national search in 1963 remembering Chet Huntley and David Brinkley on NBC reporting it. Sad outcome for a young life cut short.

I've done some research on this. I lived in the Pennypacker Park area when this happend (I was 4 at the time).David Wulff (8) was kidnapped April 4, 1964 by Joseph Francis Bryan, Jr -- a mental patient from Camden, NJ--approx 24/25 at the time.

Bryan had been arrested in 1959 after he had kidnapped 2 small boys and tied them to a tree--these 2 were not killed. He kidnapped 4 boys between February and April--killing 3--and was caught by the FBI in New Orleans on April 28, 1964. Plead Guilty in Tennessee in Jan 1965 for federal kidnapping charges received Life in Prison.

David Wulff's body was found in southern Virginia.

I think Doreen was my babysitter!
I lived 2 doors down from David and was supposed to be walking home with him the day he was abducted. I had to stay at school however and he walked home alone. Horrible case. He lived on Peachtree Lane

Raincoat
Used To
Kill Boy

RICHMOND, Va.(AP)-Preiminary
autopsy results show
h?t a New Jersey boy kidnaped
rom his home died of suffocaion,
probably from a plastic
┬Ľaincoat being held tightly over
lis head by strands of wire.
Dr. George R. Abbott, Virginia's
assistant chief medical
examiner, said Saturday the
>reliminary results from his auopsy
also indicated that David
Wulff, 8, of Willingboro, N. J.,
lad not been beaten or moested.
It will take a week or two
onger, Dr. Abbott said, before
microscopic and other laboraory
examinations can answer
he molesting question completely.
The child's body was found
Wednesday by FBI agents who
spent six days combing the
mountainous Southwest Virginia
area.
Joseph Francis Bryan Jr., 25,
of Audubon, N. J., now undergoing
psychiatric tests in South
Carolina in connection with the
ridnap-slaying of another young
)oy, has been charged witt
murder in the Wulff boy's death.
Dr. Abbott said the results of
;he autopsy so far are "com-
>letely consistent with suffocaion."
He said the body borejno
evidence of blows and that earier
reports that the child may
have been beaten probably
arose from the body's decomposition.
"There is nothing to substaniate"
any idea of molestation
Dr. Abbott said, but ne addec
iiat it would require completion
of the laboratory tests before a
definite statement could be
made on this.
"There were no marks on the
ihroat to suggest that he had
been choked by wire or of man
ual strangulation, he added.
"The best guess is that th
suffocation was produced by the
raincoat being held tightlj
over his head by the lamp cord
around his neck," he said.
FBI agents followed a trai
left by stolen credit cards from
Massachusetts to Georgia in
tracing the route Bryan is be
lieved to have followed.
Joseph D. Purvis, specia
agent in charge of the Rich
mond FBI office, said the South
west Virginia area around Hills
ville had been searched so ex
tensively because agents deter
mined Bryan -was in North Car
olina the night of April 13 wit
the Wulff boy and was in Wes
Virginia the next night by him
self.
Bryan previously was indicl
ed for kidnaping Johnny Robi
son, 10, from his Mount Pleas
ant, S. C., home Feb. 27. Th
boy's body was found March 3
in Florida.

There is a Peachtree Lane --connects Harvest and Kingsbrige. But I don't think it is in the Pennypacker section. I think he may have lived on Peartree (where I lived at the time) or Plumtree.

The bomb blast took place in Garfield North. Apparently, a mom and young boy were investigating a package left in front of their garage. Blast blew the boy's head across the street. A baby in the house survived.

Apparently, Alan, I must have been in your Kindergarten Class too. She was Miss Hulse and I always remembered David Wulff since he was also in that class of "ours".
