Why has the owner of the corner buidling on West Charlotte and Main put up a chain where drivers can't enter the parking lot for businesses? You know with Mount Holly's parking problems I think it's downright mean and rude for the person to have done this. This drive way has been there and open to the public for as long as I can remember.

God, I'm so sick of your negativity, complaints and sense of entitlement.

It's private property and they don't owe you an explanation or a parking spot.

From my understanding, there was a quarrel between the owner of the motorcycle shop and the owner of the parking lot. I do not know the roots of the problem, just that one existed and that the parking lot owner refused to let the motorcycle shop customers park in her lot.

Since a good majority of a city's income is based on property taxes, wouldn't it be a good idea to buy up all the downtown small business buildings and tear them down to build a shopping/dining district to raise property values in MH in order to bring in more tax dollars? Sort of like Birkdale Village did to property values off of I-77 exit 25. I don't think Birkdale has many motorcycle repair shops, though.

The chain to me is just a reflection of how mean spirited people in Mount Holly seem to be these days.

I believe Greg Dimmer is the person who put the chain up. He owns the building that the motorcycle shop was in and now a spa, I believe. There was some disagreement between him and the city, that is why he put up the chain.

Guess he had his reasons for doing it, but it is not good pr to have done it.

Anybody know if he is still building houses, haven't see him in a while.

So what happened to all of those subdivisions Dimmer got approved and somewhat built? Is the city still on the hook for providing services to them?

No, Dimmer had to run the Water and Sewer lines to the Developement`s and the one he started off of Hickory Grove Road has only 1 House built there. I also heard they are trying to turn that Developement into a Modular home area since he can`t finish developing it. The Rhyne`s Estate`s and Rhyne`s Trace line`s were paid for by the Developer`s.

Modular homes? I don't think current zoning would allow it. If you remember one of Mayor Whitt's first things he did as Mayor was to get subdivision standards in place.
Would appreciate anybody who is in the know to comment. We have enough starter home communities, I believe Dimmer's subdivision was approved late in the housing boom, because it was to be an upscale subdivision.

Dimmer has made enough money off MH and contributed to the over development of out town enough.
Seems like these developers just file bankruptcy, let the banks and taxpayers eat their losses and start all over again.

If people make money "off Mt Holly" it is a good thing oh "ye of little mind". The town leaders and the folks that ran for office all agreed that we need more economic development and more folks to come here and make money "off Mt holly". We can not continue as a sleepy little town that fell asleep.

Was it good for the WhiteWater Park to make money off Mount Holly?

Still waiting on all of those people from across the river to come pouring into our town to shop.

The whitewater park issue is a separate one from a developer building and improving on property in Mt Holly...bringing jobs and people to live here. The officials of this town and the folks who ran for office all agree that there must be economic development here for the town to survive. The Dimmers did a good job here building great houses and bringing dollars to Mt Holly--I for one hate that they have had problems.....By the way--the whitewter center is a not for profit entity--you know--like a park.

Not for profit? Huh? Jeff Wise, the guy who sold the thing to us, makes $120,000 a year off the park. Not for profit is in name only. Wait a few years when all of the government bailouts run out and let's see how long the park survives. You know, the citizens of MH gave the park one million dollars and they got squat for it. At least they should get free parking!

Oh wait, I forgot, there was one person in town who was wanting to build a bridge to the WhiteWater Park, talk about a bridge to nowhere. Maybe will bring all of those folk over to our town. First they cross the bridge, then they walk about 2 miles to our town, yeah, that's what we need.

Daily Horoscope for December 20

Sagittarius

Once again, the domestic atmosphere isn't exactly peaceful. Someone is still all worked up, and you may have come out in sympathy by now. Try to discuss things with as much objectivity as you can muster, otherwise, with Mars now retro, the conversation will soon disintegrate into a bad-tempered spat or a slanging match in which you try to catch one another out. It's important to clear the air.
