Wondering if anyone knows what's going to be built across the street from the Second Baptist church on West Catawba? Sure hope it's not another starter home housing development.

Thanks.

It's a new Adam and Eve store. Going to specialize in oversized phallic devices which "titillate beyond expectations." It won't get many Mount Holly customers as we go to the Gastonia store to avoid detection. But, we all want to go, right?

JENNIFER----THIS LAND WAS GIVEN TO THE CONSERVATION CORE TO USE FOR A WALKING TRAIL....LATER POSSIBLEBLY A NEW ROAD WILL COME THROUGH TO CONNECT TO RANKIN AVENUE,for a by pass arround the middle school. All the dirt from the new Dollar General had to be placed somewhere and they made a agreement to dump it their. Thomas Springs donated this land to the Conservation Core for a walking trail, but also could possiblely become a by pass,if the rail road will grant a rideaway under the trussell behind the old Dollar General, and across where the old brick yard was.....all so if they can get Carlton Broome to give a rideaway through his property across from the postal office.Maybe some day.........but don't see the railroad giveing in to this rideaway any time soon.....Carlton maybe.......the railway..........those people are hard to deal with.

Jack,
Thanks for the information. Who is the Conservation Core? Are these the greenway people. Thomas Springs sounds like a nice and generous man. He should be put up for Man of the Year in Mount Holly.

Think I could get him to give some money to the West Gastonia Boys Club? I am a big supporter of theirs.

Still think some type of development will go there. Don't think this guy is that benevolent. He probably donated the land for a tax dodge.

Where they getting the money for this road project? Obama? Mount Holly Taxpayers?

Sounds like a mini-Garden Parkway? The guy who donated the land and surrounding landowners will have their property values skyrocket.

For one thing, your wondering..........and a road project is way into the distance..........it was given as a tax deferement to Thomas Springs..........he and family can keep this property and never build on it for ever, but keep it in a farm bank. MOSTLY SO HE DOESN'T PAY A HIGH RATE OF TAXES ON PROPERTY. JUST LIKE THE FORNEY RANKIN PROPERTY ON HICKORY GROVE ROAD,AND THE PROPERTY THAT THE BYNUMS ON ON OLD HICKORY GROVE RD. NO IT WILL NEVER BE A GARDEN PARKWAY.AND THE PROPERTY OWNER WILL NEVER SEE PROPERTY VALUE SKYROCKET. Because once it't donated to the state or the conservation core this land has no sales value. You can never build houseing on it. And most of the connecting property is also owned by Springs family,or Abby College.

"2sense" you correct in one way.........it is a tax thing for anyone with a lot of property with a high tax rate to get reduced tax. There are a lot of things involved in this tax dodge..........but its legal for them.

The Conservation Core are a group of people with the state, who are like greenway people.......do gooders to a point........Thomas Springs is a fine fellow......if he like you.........only generous when he comes out ahead..........Man of the year..........funny hahaha.........Giveing money to Boys Club..........DREAM ON....I've know him and his late dad for 60yrs. the last two statesment would make his dad turn over in his grave......and most who know him start going to church..........because they thought the world was comeing to a end..........under stand what I am trying to convay?

"Question" Where the money will come from is a big problem.........the state doesn't have the money, the county doesn't.....the city doesn't..........this is why it will by so long in the distance..........the road project is on the road book for 2050..........thats a long time and many other changes between then and now..........look at how long it's been on the book to 4 lane 273 from Catawba Hgts to Hwy #16.........I'll never see it in my life time..........think you will?

You mean he's not a really nice guy? That he's only doing it because it's putting money in his pocket? Being generous only when it puts you ahead, is not called being generous.

Thanks for saving me the trouble of contacting him Jack.

No,I'm not saying he isn't nice.....And no he isn't doing it to put money in his pocket. He only gets a reduced tax rate on this farm property......which anyone would do. Such a I.......I take the old age reduced tax rate on my property.
You must also understand this is a way to conserve farm land, wildlife, and other things. This property is on the out lying of the City of Mount Holly, and some day could be sold to build cheap houseing or clap board houseing, such as in Westlen Farm Community or some of the other houseing projects arround town.Cheap houseing way beyond what they are worth........most are project houseing on slab flooring........not the houseing of many years ago. This is a man who loves his land and wants to perserve it for years to come. This property can never be used for anything else but farm land........which is wonderful.Contact him and judge for yourself........PEOPLE DO CHANGE..........BUT DOUBTFUL HE HAS.

Glad you are happy in Runnymeade. You would also be happy in Autumn Woods, Kendrick Farms, and Riverfront. That being said, Mount Holly has enough starter home communities, the real estate developers and the council made their bucks long ago during the real estate boom, that's why it's now a bust.

Glad you are happy. Hope you aren't planning on selling for a profit anytime soon.

Riverfront is a little too pricey for me
