Is there anyone who might enlighten me on why Mt. Holly pledge one million dollars to this project, when Belmont and Gastonia only pledged $500,000? Who was in charge when this was approved? Who made money from this venture?(there were private investors) From the Whitewater Park to the greenways to the shoddy streetscape, to the new Citizens Center, Mt. Holly taxpayers have been ripped off.

Just another in a line of bad decisions made by Mt. Holly's former "leadership." So far though, it doesn't look like the new leadership is going to do anything better.

You would think Mt. Holly would try and get out of this agreement, one way or the other. Can anybody verify that Mayor Hough, who was in charge then, is still on the White Water Park Board of Directors? What kind of kick back did he get by getting Mt. Holly taxpayers to put up $1 million dollars of our hard earned money, when the city of Charlotte put up only $1 million, and Belmont and Gastonia only put up $500,000? Everyday I get more and more disguested with city government.

Brian Hough was Mayor at the time the Pledge to Whitewater was approved. Not long after the approval, he was appointed to the BOD for Whitewater. The lone dissenting vote against the pledge for Whitewater at the time it was approved was former Councilman Jim Hope. This can be verified through City records. It is also rumored that Hough is going to run again to continue the direction Whitt has taken. Is that going to be beneficial, i doubt it!

Is there not anyone in this town that cares about how this city government, both past and present, have wasted so much of our tax money. Bryan Hough rammed the White Water Park down our throats with the help of the local business foundation's and local realtors' support.
Mount Holly will soon be raising its tax rates and water rates to pay for this boondoggle. Once again the average Joe pays.

Not sure, but wasn't he one of the driving forces for the massively overfunded "Citizen's Center"? Where are you checking voting records? The city doesn't maintain a website with minutes and voting records....I'd love to see a matrix of issues crossed with the voting records of each member.

Minutes are kept for each council meeting. I agree about the matrix of issues...would be interesting to see votes.

Jim Hope was the council member who pushed the city into buying that sliver of land in front of the Holiday Inn Express for $450,000. On top of that he was wanting to hire an architect to draw up plans for the ABC liquor store that was going to be built there. Doing the math, that would be a million dollar ABC liquor store! Don't give Jim Hope credit for the WhiteWater vote. He more than made up for it for the ABC land deal.

These Whitewater folks did their fair share of deceiving the council of all the benefits & fudging the numbers, so the council shouldn't take the whole blame, Lord knows they ain't that smart to figure out that was being bamboozled.

Do you think it is ironic that Whitewater and Watergate both have the word water associated with it?
Waterboarding, too. Scary.
