I love Tuck Park too! The city really messed up getting rid of Tina Pritchard. She headed that park project up and was a real go getter. I believe she would have done a better job keeping it up and adding additional features too. But, on the bright side...I do enjoy that park.
No the city did not mess up getting rid of Tina.Yes she did head up the park project, and also a go getter for her own self.Anything to put money in her pocket----------you just don't know the whole story---------a few more need to go also.!!!!!!!!

What a great post. I'm pretty sure I'm older than you, but I remember the theater and the first movie I ever saw there was "Jungle Book." Got a little older and went to see "Love Story" and my older sister and her best friend started crying before the movie ever started because they had heard it was sad.
I remember Grier's Dry Cleaners, Rhyne's Shoe Store and the Five and Dime. I wasn't old enough, but I remember my older siblings being able to attend dances at the Jaycee Building and how there was always some big story to tell when they came home.
I miss being able to pay my power bill downtown and I totally agree with you that it's sad that our town is dark and deserted and is nothing more than a pass through town.
There's nothing wrong with being from a small town or living in one, we just need to get some business back.
I remember all those as well..used to love the dances at the Jaycee Building. It was a wonderful place to grow up and I am glad to have grown up there.

I get to coach for the middle school. The kids are great, which makes it worthwhile. But I will also say the support our teams get in the sports I coach is phenomenal. Some of the places we go (as well as some high schools I've seen) have nobody there to support the teams. That's never an issue here. I know the parents & community care about these kids, the teams, & their success. That's what I like.

Wow..lots of good things on here about Mt Holly....I tend not read the negative stuff.
All the positive stuff mentioned....I totally agree with.
I remember walking from school down to Charlie's and then over to the Methodist Church for my Browine Girl Scout meeting!
Good times and good memories!!

This City has a corrupt government.

Maybe back in the day it had ethical city leaders, but back in the day it didn't have a Mayor that made a buck off the town, nor did it have a Mount Holly Community Foundation led by one of our town doctors. Back in the day, our town doctors helped the needy and sick. Nowadays, our town doc seems only to help the well off.

I can't really give you an answer on that one. It's not one of the sports I'm involved in at the moment. But I've had a lot of success with my teams at MH the last couple of seasons.

Excellent post Theresa. You are right on the money. Back in the day, people did things for the right reasons, not to make a name or a buck for himself. The doctor heading up the MHCF has certainly lowered my opinion of the medical field, especially those that wear the Duke shirt everytime they take a walk.

It's a wonderful place to live. You can walk in town at night and feel safe. The people in Mount Holly are kind and friendly. The stores are nice. (I wish they had more business) The White Water Center is lots of fun and far enough out of town to not cause traffic issues. There are sidewalks. Charlies Drugs has 'everything' and if they don't, they'll order it for you. The city hall is beautiful. The traffic isn't heavy. It has a small town feel and yet it's close enough to Charlotte and Gastonia to have the best of both worlds. I love Mount Holly.

And I do miss the old ways that we use to have I word at Holland's drug store in the late 70's at the fountain and then I worked at Jones Brothers in the meat dept. and I just loved it. Not to many of my family still lives there but I do love to come back, but the town has changed so much,

Sorry if you haven't noticed but things change. I think you should consider moving to Mississippi or Alabama where I think things are the same way you remember them.

Mount holl used to be a nice place to live and raise your family.Today they got a lots of crook that run the town and the city board. When we lost the two theater and jones brother and ryan grocers and summer grug store and when they move charlie drug around the corner and the pool hall golden glove fightes and the police today stinks and they turn there back on some crimes. They used to have street dances beside the railroads tracts and that was fun thad lawing and his band played for dances. We had a good football team one year we were undeaft and score on at end of season by clover sc and the coach move on and kill another football player in another town during hot weather.Phil wilson was the best football player in history of mount holly.Only one thing wrong with mount holly nc they was against the black people there at that time.If a black was seen on the street at night the white kids would beat them up some played on football team was in on the beating up black people.
