Ooooh, thank you soooo much Tara for the wonderful article! What a great asset you are to the Banner tooo!

I for one am soooo pleased at the amount of attention this important problem has now recieved. If nothing is done now, then someone should be fired if a child is ever hit or hurt at the school....

I certainly hope it doesn't come to that, but if does, no one can say "we didn't know it was a problem". Now yoooou need to think about that long and hard, Mrs. Principal.

We want action! We want action!, tee, hee, hee...

Why don't you just drive faster and pay attention. It will get you places more efficiently and safely ie: not talking on the phone while driving, or looking in the mirror. Just my .02

Posts like this one aligns one perfectly with your cohort, Nugeme.

BMS traffic may not be to your liking. BMS may have an unfortunate accident. But as far as I remember, the traffic at the middle school has not changed since in the last three decades. Your constant mention of growth-fueled traffic endangerment of children has not merit.

Keep on stroking and stoking...

Hmmm...

Its been over 30 years since Kyra was hit, ironically by a teacher, crossing Woodlawn to NBE. There's still a memorial plaque in a brick column to her. She was a classmate and had Crews blood in her. I think of her from time to time.
I remember that morning in vivid detail.

People do care.

Traffic hasn't changed in the last three decades? What planet have you been living on? How many new homes and businesses have been erected in 30 years here? I rest my case........

No school caution light, no set traffic (drop off/pick up area) parents just stop wherever and unload their kids. A few years ago a student was hit on the bridge on Central, luckily she was not killed, but I guess that is what it will take to get some here to wake up and see this is a HUGE PROBLEM......

Aunt Bee,

I believe that CameronsMOM was being sarcastic and in fact saying that there HAVE been many new homes and businesses. I'm pretty sure you guys are on the same side here.

IT IS AN ISSUE FOR THE PTA. SIMPLE.

PTA needs to do their job and handle the "problem" with the School Administration. Think about it. If the School takes action, what path will that take?

CM, hasn't been called the PTA for years now. It's the PTO. That shows your age and explains your lack of concern. Not your problem, right?

I believe the city has changed dramatically in the 30 year span. Of course no one ever fathomed the remote possibility that this city would undergo major changes and growth. Along with that, no one focused on what impact this would have on schools. Now we can see why things are in such a mess. I am a parent of a 10 year old here. So I witness the traffic nightmare on a daily basis. I am not being sarcastic with anyone here, just speaking the truth and the facts. Those who don't have to get out in the traffic on a weekday morning or afternoon have no clue how bad it is.

Not sure what your point is. It is still an issue for the PTA.

I read the article regarding the traffic situation. Yes, certainly have a problem here and safety is lacking. My village had a very similar problem.{morning drop-off the worst}. Parents, teachers, and police observed the situation (no "official" commitee needed) Identified the safety issues, published the new procedure in the Local newspaper and school circulars and Wow! What a difference.
Do you have a police officer who could direct traffic for a couple of weeks?

A good suggestion Iris - actually we have 43 police officers on our force. Wonder where they all are? I think they are busy chasing armed robbers getting on and off I-85...and trying to find people who break into houses and beat people with crowbars. That is, when they are not at Petro Express :)

Hmm, sorry about the crime situation. I imagine they stop at Petro Express to get coffee and a quick bite so they can chase after criminals.(btw, never intended to suggest a negative slant on police). If it's not possible for an officer to be there, any parent volunteers to help?
The situation sounds frustrating enough, maybe money and/or constructive suggestions collected from the parents so over the Summer a new area could be constructed for next school year?
