We don't have a good choice. What is so sad is the fact that three of these people and one of these candidates for mayor will be elected! If Hough gets in, welcome to more of the same! If Harris gets in, watch out because the special interest groups will stir a stink because they didn't get their way! Moore, well he will go with whoever gets to be mayor. Hope, will but heads with Hough over who is really more important, and will try to charm Harris, Bishop, more of the same fighting with Hough and trying to prove power over Harris, Foster, who knows...maybe he could do something. Dotson and Greeley, oh please...really?

Donnie Dotson: Newcomer: She is the daughter of

Trailer Park. Was appointed to the
Harrisburg City Council but lost
the seat at the next election.
Have no clue what she wants to
do. Did not come to the first
forum. For what it is worth(which
may not be much) I have been told
that she is scary. Not sure what
that means though.
Marty Greeley: Newcomer: Works at Bi-Lo in
Belmont and is the best friend of
Donnie Dotson. Was told they just
decided to run together. Have no
other info and have not found
anyone that knows her. I have
even gone to Bi-Lo a couple of
times to meet her but have been
unsuccessful.
Mayor:
Phyllis Harris: Former Council Woman, Was voted out two years ago. Claim to Fame: Has served on DOT for years but never made a difference for MH. Voted yes for Whitewater and all the annexations. She wants to be the City's new Ambassador and go out and bring in new businesses. Has no college education and works part-time cartering for the Panthers. Not clear what else she would like to do.(on a personal note: I would not want her to be an Ambassador for Mount Holly, she lacks professionalism needed for the job. However, she does not have a vote except in a tie, so she may be okay as a Mayor, as long as she stays in town.)
Bryan Hough: Former Councilman and Mayor, Is thought to have ties to the special interest groups in town. Promoted Whitewater and is on their Board of Directors. Was a friend to every housing developer that came to town. Is educated (UNC grad) and works for the Insurance Industry. There have been claims that his insurance group holds the insurance for the City but I don't have proof. He is well spoken and very knowledgeable. One problem is he wants to wait & see on the wastewater plant. The longer we wait, the higher the price tag. Do we want to pay $50 million?
I am sure that I have left off some facts. Please feel free to add to this list. After this exercise, I am more confused than ever. I will make a final decision after tomorrow night's forum. For now, I am thinking of voting for Drew Foster, David Moore & Marty Greeley. They seem to have the least issues.
For Mayor: I am flipping a coin, neither would be a great choice. Is there someone in town that would like to be Mayor that is worthy of the position? Do we need to start a write-in campaign?
Dear God. We are leaving entrusting our tax dollars to grocery store baggers and car wash attendants. Now I realize why our downtown in only wide enough for a horse-drawn carriage and there are many boarded up businesses down there.

"Dear God. We are entrusting"... strike the word leaving. Sorry.

Forgot to metion the Carolina graduate. I can only take so much of the holier-than-thou UNC mentality.

I agree outrageous, but you better vote for the lesser of two evils, P Harris. Hough has made enough money off us MH taxpayers, let Phyllis have her time at the trough..........

Any posters here have an inkling as to who the MHCF is backing (not openly of course)? Drew Foster! This really shouldn't come as a surprise since we all know who the chairperson of the Foundation is - his wife. So if you see a whole in the back of his shirt don't bother telling him, he knows it. That's where members of the MHCF foundation will be putting their hands to make him say what they want. Besides, do you think he risks sleeping on the couch for four years?

That was mean spirited.......were you at the candidate forum tonight? if you were, you could see immediately he was not speaking for anyone but himself and those that agree with him. If you weren't there, from where do you get your opinions of Drew? Why do folks find it necessary to sit on the side lines and throw this diatribe.

The meeting at the Citizen Center tonight went very well. All of the candidates put themselves on the line to answer the questions thrown at them and handled themselves very well. I predict:

Hough will win (not my choice or vote)
Hope will win (should win)
Moore will win (not my choice or vote)
Bishop will win (ambivalent)
Harris (better choice than Hough)
Foster (good choice but will not win)
Dotson (qualified but no one knows her)
Greely (same as Dotson)

Yes I was there, not sitting on the sidelines. I have known most of the candidates for some time now. Mr. Foster is definitely not one for City Council. Just trying to enlighten some folks.
As for 'It was a good forum', I'll go with your winners but with differing opinions.

Mayor: Hough - good choice, almost a toss-up
Council: Moore - very good choice
Bishop - don't always agree, safe choice
Hope - don't particularly like but he
tells it as he sees it
And that will be my vote!

You may have gotten it pretty close to being correct. I think though that her husbands name is Dotson, so it would make him the heir to the fish frye/trailer park. And they are one of the towns most taxed property owners, so they do have a keen interest in the town, and multi-generational. Their household is very much geared toward education. The son who ran for mayor while attending the Abbey has now earned his Masters and will be working on his PHD and law degree at the same time. There is a little more there than meets the eye with that candidate. I think her opinions on some facts will change once she participates and actually has facts behind her.

Most of them now are just spitting in the wind. The real work starts when they are sworn in.....

Do you have any CLASS?? How would you like someone coming into your life and saying untruthful things about you and your family? There are two things I hope. One that Drew isn't reading this and the load of crap that you are posting about him and his wife and two that he is reading this so he can PROVE you WRONG!! I have seen a lot about his integrity being questioned on here and some of you GREAT MT. HOLLY citizens should be ashamed and look at a mirror and point the fingers at yourself for poor integrity from time to time.

totally ashamed of Mt. Holly it will never go anywhere! So let your hatred and false accusations harbor and Mt. Holly will be where it is today in 10 years under the shadow of Belmont and nothing but a poor city who gave taxpayers money away with no RESULT!

God be with you all with all this negativity! because you are going NOWHERE!

Looks can be deceiving. Hough is not a good choice. He has sold the MH taxpayer out many, many times for his special interests and his own gain. His company holds the insurance policy for the town employees, he gained a seat on the White Water Park Board of Directors in exchange for getting the council to give one million dollars to the park, and he was the main push for the Citizens Center.

Anybody but Mr. Hough. He has used this town enough for his own gain.

Be careful, Jim would have been leaps and bounds better than Hough or Harris....however, that really is not saying very much is it? LOL
