There are a few that I notice driving around. (building, businesses, etc.) I just want to see if anyone else feels the same way. Let's start naming... Maybe if the council sees our list, they will start to do something about these..........

Ray of Sunshine----you are a joke at saying this about the council----they or their friends own most of the run down property---they have got to figure out how to take monies from the tax payers to fix up such property! Look at Caravan Coffee, and Backwoods and some of the other things that has been fixed up------monies stolen from the tax payers and given to friend of council members!

Damn right. This illusion of businesses coming into Mount Holly is a load of crap. If the Mount Holly Taxpayer hadn't subsidized/bailed out these people, they would not be here.

The Mayor's yard is definitely not an eyesore. Very green. Very well manicured. Much better than my clover-infested yard.

The road at the intersection where the pet store is at is so messed up. Why cant they fix that part of the road where it can be smooth and not bumpy?? They have tried several times. It is smooth for awhile the. The bumps and holes reappear not too long afterward. What is so hard about fixing that road? Also, the sign on the pet store that looks like a big red arrow..... That doesn't look like an arrow... I wish they would. Ha be that sign too. It is not pretty. Also. Why did mt. Holly choose a bright green wrought iron fence in downtown along the train tracks.... Up near the greenway they chose black. Which I think is much nicer looking. The green just sticks out like a sore thumb! Let's make my. Holly look like Belmont. Let's just admit. Belmont is a lot prettier and classier than downtown mt. Holly. City cafe is an eye sore too. The big green plastic furniture and railing looks awful......

I want to start off by saying I know alot of the business owners in Downtown Mt. holly and none of them received any tax funds to open a business in Mt. Holly. The people who did want to open a business in Downtown used their own funds to fix up those business with some of the help of the people who own and lease the property! That was something that was started by the former owners of "Cream and Beans" when they went out of business and not the case at all. As for Belmont flourishing it is true, they are flourishing because of their Bar and Grills.Their are numerous reason why those types of business will not locate to the Mt. Holly area.#1-Just count the Churches in downtown, there is 2 on N. Main and 3 on S.Main and those churches would fight anyone wanting to bring in a business of that type.#2-The Mt.Holly police department harasses the patrons that attend those places, so those patrons that do not live in the downtown area do not feel comfortable about coming to Mt.Holly to attend events and clubs,I have heard others say that they don't even like coming as a designated driver because when they leave an establishment or event they do not want to go through the hassle of being pulled over.(Before anyone says anything about the I DO NOT think people should drink and drive!)#3-The people of Mt.Holly want even support a business such as Caravans,Time Flies, or even Creme and Beans when it was open, why would someone want to take a chance and invest a ton of money in that type of business. Just look at City Cafe, they tried to open a lounge and its dead every time I go by it,some of it is mismanagement, but alot of it is for all of the reasons above. So before people knock Downtown Mt.Holly just remember, the people who live here wanted a quaint, quite small town, and thats what you have, and quaint, quite small dead town!!!

Yes, how can the city of Mount Holly subsidize new businesses such as the Eiden Group, Caravan Coffee, Backwoods, and not do the same for other businesses. I would think a good lawsuit could be made against the city for its preferential treatment of certain businesses in town.

The reason business does poorly in MH is because it is landlocked. It is not as easily accessible as Belmont. For alot of people who live in the Belmont, the traffic, crime, noise, and litter that the " bars" have brought in is a bad thing. It has hurt quality of life. Yes, it has put money in a few people's pockets - but at the expense of the citizens. You really want to be like Belmont? Then you must not live there. Count your blessings.

Landlocked? That's the most rediculous thing I have ever heard. Highway 27 from Freedom Drive to Mount Holly is becoming a 4 lane highway if you haven't noticed. 485 is 3 miles, interstate 85 is 5 minutes and highway 273 bisects the north and south connecting to highway 16 and highway 74. How much more connectivity do you need? The reason why Mount Holly is in the shape it is, is because of poor leadership and poor planning. Greg Beal is getting his feather in his hat by getting the MedPlex but I can tell you this, this welfare hospital won't be the saving grace of Mt. Holly as long as people like him and Danny Jackson are at the helm.

I think those apartments across from the underpass are a huge eyesore. I remember how nice they were when they were built back in the late 70's. I don't know who the owners are but they should be ashamed. I know, it's the old adage "well, the renters keep it tore up". Hello- raise the rent and you will get tenants who will take better care of your property. I know some slum lords who will rent out their properties for 100.00 a month just so they can have something to put in their pockets and in the meantime, destroy entire neighborhoods.
