Went to NoDa tonight. That's what MH needs. Eclectic shops. Good pubs that serve good food. And easy access parking. And get rid of that f---ing junk car!

I remember as a kid going to Madden's with dad. Now that is all boarded up and forgotten. Has anybody
heard that they sold Charely Others Brother? Is that Westampton? Seems like it is tough to keep a
good restaurant in the area. Charley's prices were
really high.

You are living in a dream world. It's simple why MH doesn't have a vibrant downtown like Belmont or the NoDa area, it's the money. When Bryan Hough and Bobby Black allowed all of those starter home developments in Mount Holly they created the income base that will forever be Mount Holly.

Case in point, take Riverfront. That could have been a very nice upscale development somewhat like Pinsto Forest in Belmont, yet Hough and Black allowed the developers to put in a Runneymede/Autumn Woods/Kendrick Farms development. There are a few expensive houses in Riverfront, but for the most part it is just another vinyl clad, starter home community.

Mount Holly does not have the volume of people with the kind of disposable income that would support businesses like these.

Just saw where the City Cafe and the Artist building is up for sale. So much for the booming downtown of Mount Holly. Maybe the MH Community Foundation could buy the building with a grant from the City of Mount Holly.

Maybe if you would have frequented the businesses instead of handling vegetables, these buildings would be successful.

Does anyone in their right mind think that an art/pottery gallery would be the savior of downtown MH? Have you seen some of the people that are actually walking downtown? I doubt their interests include art and the like. Maybe the black guy pulling the lawn mower with his bike could switch careers and be an artist. Get real!!

Mount Holly, like Gastonia, Stanley etc...suffer from the PTTDS Syndrome (Post Textile Traumatic Distress Syndrome). Many of which have relatives that were textile workers, and these towns thrived during that period. They are locked into that mentality and growth is not on their agenda. They are quite satisfied with getting in their pick-up trucks driving to RO's or some other nasty restaurant because they have always done it. God help those that slam that crap, it's holy ground to them.
The town of Mount Holly has potential but not until you get the rednecks out and get someone with a little bit of culture in office.
It's all about City Planning and what you want for your city. If you live there...vote in office those that want change and city beautification. Nothing there...as it is.
Who could care less about boutiques. Most women that shop go to Charlotte...get decent restaurants, coffee shops, book stores, piano bars...a little culture never hurts.
How DO they get their revenue in that town?

I have and wrote:
there is no “anchor” store. There is nothing in downtown that will keep me coming back. I do want to support MH and its downtown. My husband and I went to the coffee shop a couple of weeks ago. He got an iced coffee. Instead of getting in the car and going home we decided to walk, with wallet in hand, to check the other stores out. There was only one store open and it was the country store. This was a Saturday afternoon.
It seems like a simple equation to me. MH needs a good chef-owned (not cook) restaurant with new menu items ever so often, a good beer/wine list, and most importantly consistently good food.(If the restaurant has good food the people who don’t drink alcohol will support such a restaurant.) Another idea would be something like Whole Foods. People from all over Gaston County would come to our little town for that.
The only time I come to town is when one of my kids needs cash from the ATM. And when I am on that mission I have no time to stop by the boutiques or the bakery.
One more thing, I thought “I am Mount Holly,” was only for the out of town guests. Seems to me that you really don’t want me downtown anyway.
The City Cafe is the anchor store.

Mount Holly officials, drive to the old Gaston Mall site. Notice what happened. They knocked down the dilapidated structure. Is it time to knock down our dated downtown? Your revitalization efforts have been costly and did not bear fruit.

I for one hope that the ER does not come to Mt. Holly. That is an awful spot for one. The traffice will be alot worse right there at the underpass. I just don't see a positive in that place at all. And $4500 rent at the citizens center. What is that about? We have a very nice Urgent Care in Belmont/CMC. I would drive there before I would go to the one they are talking about putting in Mt. Holly up near Freightliner.... ugh. 273 will be an awful mess conerning traffic.
