PITTSBURGH PA, HOME OF CHAMPS

#1 Feb 10, 2011
Hi. I live in Pennsylvania, and my wife and I were thinking of moving to Mount Dora. I've been there in the past, although it's been several years. My wife is a nurse and I am a GC (general contractor). We currently live near Pittsburgh, PA and are sick of the long winters (it's -3 outside right now) and the overall run-down feel of this place. The economy is supposedly decent here right now, but we both feel like we're sacrificing quality-of-life by living here.

Please tell me what it's like to live in Mount Dora. How is the economy/crime/etc? Don't cite statistics please, as I'm interested in hearing first-hand accounts. I can find statistics online, but I wanna hear what it's like from some people who actually live in the area. Thanks!

I only speak for my self and a others I know, In Tavares and Mount Dora. You may side step a few bocks and end up either. Both places has all the makings of a very good place to live.

1. They think Children have beards and drink beer and run in packs of 20 and play in the streets and all over private property 24/7. Nothing done if they damage any thing. Everything is "For the Children" Their definition of children has a lot to be desired.

2 The local PD attitude stems from the City officals down. A quote from a more than one Tavares PD officer " Go home like I do and not pay attention to the out side and live and live and let live."

3 Worst of all, Garbage in the streets not picked up for the holidays every year so you can show your out of town guest what dump you live in.

4 The Code Enforcement is non functional, other City Departments just plain do not get around to it completely.

5 I have Lived all over the world, worst place yet just because of no attention to detail and poor Management. Things are falling apart more every day.

6 The attitude is Blame the victims for causing the City / PD Problems.

The old what a wonderful high paying job this would be ,if it were not for all the people bothering us for city services they pay for.

Anthony B.~ You would be smart to losten to the real people before you "blow" you chance of finding a real decent place for you and your wife!

First off, Mount Dora is a nice place to visit with its New England like shoppes and such, but you don't want to spend the night! The city is the original homo playground of Lake County and even boosted Lakes first openly queer mayor Jessie! now Lake County is home to a queer sheriff and insiders say about 40% of the 750 person operations is homo! Crime i downtown Mount Dora has recently been at al all time high with persons being robbed exiting the local night spots. the police department has lied about these crimes and actually refuse to take reports on some. Just last year an elderly man and his wife was murdered leaving the local Mount Dora Target Store.

Target Murders No Trial

United States

Anthony ~ Does all the folks who commit murders in Pittsburg get off on mental illenss? Well they do down her! Don't just bring your knee pads for the fags, bring your will just in case one of the nuts get delusional!

TAVARES A judge today postponed the double-murder trial of Jonathan Levy, the Eustis man accused of an unprovoked knife-attack on a retired couple in the parking lot of the Target store in Mount Dora.

Circuit Judge T. Michael Johnson ruled that Levy, 26, is mentally incompetent to proceed to trial on two counts of first-degree murder. The judge ordered authorities to move Levy to a mental-health center for treatment.

The trial was scheduled to begin Monday with jury selection.

Tavares lawyers Michael Graves and John Spivey had planned to present an insanity defense for Levy who had been involuntarily committed to mental-health facilities 10 times after suffering a head injury at home in 2002.

I would look Around and take my time. All the things some of us have told you are for the most part true and you are correct that area like all others places and have problems also. That leaves you to go to lesser problems.

Check The Villages out, you may afford that area well. The Home Owners Association just do, or actually force the City,s to do its minimal job here. I don't like HOA's but what choice do you have. If you like Golf you can go home live in a box and never encounter a problem. I would look Around carefully and take my time. RENT

Antony B you really sound very miserable n unhappy and not to mention very homophobe, advice, go see a shrink n maybe you'll become a much better person. I've been to mount Dora nad loved it, I'm moving there soon and can't wait to do so, people are, friendly the village is great n has top of the line restaurants. I tell you not all gay people if not the majority are they way you describe, I know cause I'm one of them. I'm my community, I belong to the fire department, I'm in the school board,I help the poor people in my community, the majority of them(republican poor) but I don't care, they are human after all, I have a contracting company, gay can be butch u know, I own a furniture store n own my own home with my partner of 24 years. So u see I'm just a regular tax payer human being just like u but not as miserable, you might try to be a little more open minded n you'll be a little happier. Also I must tell you, that there's a rotten apple on every race, straight or gay in this world sadly but u can't judge all of us for one persons mistake. Anthony, yes I'm moving there and I don't care about you opinions because I'll be avoiding people like you because I soround myself with educated people n my prospective on life is much different thatn yours.

You guys are fu***** hilarious. I Have been through Mt. Dora many times and have taken self defense lessons there. Other than that though, I don't know the ins and outs. The surrounding areas our mostly backwoods and country; but, I consider the areas nice. The Villages is a very safe and pleasant place. My folks do live there and yes I have heard its the STD capitol of the U.S. Come on tho, Its a bunch of older people living out their last phase in life and enjoying it. Looking from the outside in Mount Dora seems like the typical small somewhat suburban community. My knowledge comes from living in little towns like (Statesboro, GA, Jacksonville, NC, and Leonardwood, MS) and have lived in big towns such as (Atlanta, San Diego, and Jacksonville, FL). A lot of the comments didn't really answer the original post. I was bored and couldn't sleep so I thought I would chime in. Maybe this helps some. I'll be moving down to the area soon.
