I don't really see how this is any different than town restrictions that mandate quiet time after 10 pm.

People don't need to be congregating in a parking lot late at night.

She is 25 with 4 children? She should welcome the curfew and set an example for her children.

Not unless you want too.
The Problem Is

....the problem will not go away until the underlying culture understands this is the reason that generational poverty exists.
Until the standards are aligned with the majority of our population you will have organized groups using the term "plantation" in place of "we've made our bed and you're paying for it".
That's just another excuse for not understanding the solution to the problem.

Estella Chatman wanted a better life for herself, she worked hard to get an education and a job to avoid living in the slums with small kids who probably don't even have their own clean beds! No pitty from me.

"American FREEDOM"? No problem - you can loiter in the parking lot at all hours of the night - as long as the Federal government isn't paying your rent.

25 years old, single, with four kids - living in federally subsidized housing. That is the problem right there - poor choices made REPEATEDLY and we have to pay for it - but there can be no rules infringing on her freedom to hang out in the parking lot at all hours. If the rule had always been there, maybe she wouldn't have so many kids.

Why do your writers even give lip service to ridiculous greivances by these ungrateful welfare recipients? Law of the jungle would see this gal and her 4 kids eaten by lions. NAACP needs to use their power to change the attitudes of those they are enabling.

How does the NAACP lady get off comparing the apartment to a plantation? NO one is picking any cotton! The field hands never did crack, sell drugs, played dice or carry guns either. I wasn't there but I'm pretty sure they didn't have any rights for that matter. If the field hands would have acted the way these people do they would have been given a permenant curfew. For the lady with four kids who is complaining about the curfew, to bad. Society always suffers for the carelessness of a few idiots. When I grew up drinking and driving was legal, then a few idiots over did it and ruined it for the rest of us who can handle drinking three beers and navigate a car. I'm just so tired of catering to low life scum. It expensive and it is promoting a culture that expects hand outs for nothing in return.

Love it when the NAACP uses a racist statement - but Big John up in Ormond Beach is under fire for using the word "monkey" - DOUBLE STANDARD.

If the NAACP and the ACLU really care about racism, they would condemn their own representative for what she said - oh yeah, that's right - they can use the racist terms if it serves them in the moment. Let a white person call it a "plantation" and the Reverend Jesse himself would be here - if he isn't defending another lying crack whore who cries rape by a white guy. Remember Duke lacrosse, and remember Tawana Brawley - Jackson or Sharpton never apologized for those witchhunts and they continue to incite racial tension every chance they get.

If this 25-year old mother of 4 doesn't like having a curfew imposed, then 1)move and pay your own rent and stop using my tax dollars, 2)stop having children and using my tax dollars and 3)get a job, stop living off welfare, WIC stamps, and free rent and stop using my tax dollars.

These people are amazing. I don't care what color you are; black, white, brown or yellow. Anyone who keeps popping out babies so they can get an extra check every month makes me sick. You want everything for nothing.

The NAACP and the ACLU are useless, loud-mouth idiots who do nothing but get up on a podium yelling about some perceived injustice to some poor downtrodden individual whose rights were violated. These people are so far out of the realm of reality it's not even funny. Let them go work with the Guardian Ad Litem program and see the children that these idiots keep popping out because the ACLU won't let our government impose mandatory birth control on a crack mother who gets pregnant by 1 of 15 different men and does drugs while she's pregnant. And then, after she pops out the first one and her welfare check goes up she goes out and does it again and again so she can continue to buy more crack all the while screaming that the system doesn't give her enough money to live and feed her kids.

We need mandatory spay/neuter laws for some of these people. They lose all their rights once they start taking welfare because their too lazy to get a real job.

Maybe if this women had to work for a living she would be to tied to stay up pass ten every night. this has nothing to do with raceism just bad judgement on the part of this lady twenty five years old and four kids sounds to me like she dosent learn very quickly.

I can't believe the racist comments on this board. If it weren't for the ACLU we would all have to strip naked at the airport and all of our civil rights would be gone...

There are many Latin cultures that play dominoes...at least they aren't playing with guns.

What are you talking about? Your post makes "zero" sense. There are no racist comments on this board. If you've perceived something racist in these posts, perhaps it's you that's racist. Secondly, the article mentions "dice throwing" in the sense of a gathering of people outside gambling. And since the complex is notorious for drawing the dregs of society, they were trying to make the point that these people (no races were named) didn't need to be outside in a large group of people and for your information, I would bet that there were quite a few guns in that crowd, sans serial numbers. The ACLU jumps in when they feel someone's constitutional rights are being violated, the word of importance here is "feel". These people are the first to step up and defend a criminal who took someone else's right away by beating, murdering, raping, robbing...pick one...someone or someone's friend, relative or loved one. How about the constitutional rights of people to live without fear of being robbed, murdered, home-invaded, etc. by people who are like the sediment that you scrape out of the inside a septic tank. The ACLU is not the "be all and end all" of our civil liberties protections. Hell, this is the same group that in the 1980's took a case to the Supreme Court to protect the right to distribute child pornography. WHAT???? The NAACP is just as bad. They are more racist than the "racists" themselves. Everything is black and white issue to them. Hmmm, let's see....I'm out shopping and I see a dress in purple...."I don't like the color purple"....oh crap...here comes the NAACP screaming about the The Color Purple and Oprah Winfrey and because I don't like purple, I don't like black people. Take a look at these idiots on a daily basis and the trouble they stir up just so they can feel important. They end up making themselves look stupid more than anything. Get a grip on reality Fasha.

I so agree with everything you said. I wish this were like the Chron.com board where we could show we agree with someone without putting the post on again; BUT since yours is such a good post it bears repeating.

Fasha - you want to know about the ACLU and the Reverends Jackson and Sharpton?

Jackson leads a protest march last year through Durham NC calling for all of the Duke lacrosse team to be expelled for alledgedly raping a black stripper. Lots of racial tension and name calling and three indictments that were later thrown out - why? Because the woman they so loudly and visibly defended turned out to be a lying piece of crap with DNA from several men on her - but none of them Duke lacrose players. There was no apology from Jackson - he just faded away.

Remember Tawana Brawley? A 16 year old black girl who claimed she was gang raped by four white men - the Reverend Al Sharpton ran with that one. Lots of racial charges, plenty of tension and at least one rally/march - and guess what? She was lying too - and no apology has ever been made.

The ACLU has defended pornography in the past, along with many other misguided causes.

If they all really cared about the black community, they would be trying to change the violent culture, not defend it.

Stripping naked at the airport would have prevented 9/11 and many other hijackings - sounds like a good idea to me, but maybe not to someone carrying a gun, knife, or bomb.
