If you would only realize how absolutely conceited, ridiculous, and ugly you are by posting the comments you have posted. Just because you just might have a little more money than some of us here, doesn't make you any better than us. Money doesn't make the person, what you do with it and how you treat others is what makes the person. One more thing, if we are all such "inbred hillbillies" the why do you insist on having an "estate" here? Sounds a little like someone actually intact likes it here.

In the 1950's, I would go to the TB / Poor Farm with priests from St Vincent de Paul parish in Elm Grove to celebrate Mass for the residents. It always had an odd feel about it. As a 10 yr old altar boy, we felt like we were doing our part to comfort the sick.

My next contact was in the early 1970's when I arranged with the County to salvage building materials form the place. Vandalism was a big problem at the time so I was given permission at no charge to remove what were considered "architectural antiques" from the buildings. The Main building was badly damaged by that time but I did get one nice fireplace surround and some marble. I also got marble stall dividers out of the restrooms in the dormitory-like building and several hundred bricks stamped with the manufacturers' names from all brick walls that had collapsed.
Before Ohio County bought the site, it was the country estate of Henry Schmulbach, a prominent Wheeling brewer. Prohibition, which came to WV in 1914, drove Schmulbach out of the business. I don't know when the County bought the property.

Being from Wheeling,WV have heard about Roneys Point and even went by it several times. My neighbor works for the Wv dept of highways and has axcess to the state owned property. Yes, it is still there in run down condition. Yes there is a state trooper that lives at the enterance. Have two friends that worked there in the seventies digging graves. They said very hard work by hand because the ground is mostly clay.Yes, a guy got shot up there in the eighties and it was racial. No, Charles Manson did not start the fire up there. He was nowhere close to here by then.If you choose to explore the Roneys point, you might want to check out the haunted train tunnel and wetzels cave. Off of I 70 take the Washington ave /Wheeling hospital exit. If you came I70 west you have to cross back over the interstate. Either way turn right on Mt dechantel rd ggo a couple hundred yards go leftup the hill . you will pass some houses then look for the parking lot ion your right. Once you park walk left toward the tunnel.its lit now so its not that scarry. Once you reach the other side , there is a path on the left up the side of the hill . Follow it and yyou will see the enterance to the cave. enter if you dare. you can research the history of these places yourself. Have fun.

The County Farm Cemetery and Poor Farm is located on the east side of Roneys Point Run Road, north of County Farm Road, outside Roneys Point, West Virginia (Ohio County).
The County Farm Cemetery was established in 1932, and it is no longer active. When I visited in August 2011, the weeds were over my knees and the cemetery had not been maintained for many years. The cemetery has a large cast iron fence and gate that protects the small bridge that leads across the small creek. I found that the original wood County Farm Cemetery sign had rotted and fell off the original posts. What is left of the sign has been placed leaning up against the outside of the gate next to the road. You will find a chain on the gate, but it is not locked. You can explore the open field that holds hundreds of unmarked graves and venture into the surrounding wood area where I have found numerous plot markers and small metal tag post type markers for all these forgotten souls. I would be careful of how far into the woods you explore because the cemetery is open to the public , but once you get further into the woods you are on the old Henry Schmulbach estate that the county owns. There are numerous No Trespassing signs clearly posted here. A State Trooper who lives at the top of the hill also protects the old estate and T.B. Hospital that is now abandoned. The Poor Farm was originally the Schmulbach Mansion built by German Wheeling brewer, banker and powerful city leader Henry Schmulbach for his second wife. Henry built the home in 1913 and lived here for only 2 years, prior to this he lived at 2311 Chapline street Wheeling. When he died in 1915 his wife sold it to Ohio County. A wing was built onto the left side of the mansion to accommodate a poor farm and later T.B. home. In a photo I found of the mansion in the 1930's the home was still new and beautiful looking. Ohio County stopped operating the poor farm in 1962 and abandon the estate in the mid 1960's. The County sold the property to the State of West Virginia in 1967 at this time the state built a hospital that served as a drug and alcohol, mental behavior treatment center and later a boys and girls detention hall. This building closed in the 1970's and the property transferred back to Ohio County. As for Henry Schmulbach's Mansion the county gave it one last fair well goodbye when they gave the local fire department permission to conduct a mock fire on it for training purpose in 1975. This Mansion in its day was the premiere Home in Wheeling. The rooms were decorated with hand-made wallpaper imported from France, imported marble fire places and a conservatory... what a total waste and complete disrespect to such a key city leader. After further research of this property and cemetery I found that other grave markers and head stones were found in the woods with older dates then when this cemetery was established. Some markers were from the 1890's and other from the 1910 era. I found that this was odd and later learned that many displaced cemeteries in the Wheeling area had moved stones from the old Catholic cemetery and Peninsula cemetery to here. I am not sure why this was done or if the entombed coffins and contents were moved here or not. After the Schmulbach Mansion fell into the hands of the county it became a rest haven for the old, poor, T.B. diseased, metal ill, criminals and other various people of handicaps that society did not want and so they displaced them here. In those days the" Out of site -Out of mind" concept was the norm of the culture.
The graves and headstones were moved there from the pennsula cemetary to build interstate 70. you can see the cemetary on your right traveling west on the hillside before you go thru Wheeling tunnel Traveling west it will be on your left after go thru the tunnel

In the early 90s a group of my friendsfrom college went thru it on a quiet winters night at bout 3am. We hand lanterns luckily. It was cold n dark . The building was caved in sumwhat. There was satanic graffiti on walls n floors. A huge star in the center of floor with candles on each point unlit. Bird feathers 2. We found an uknderground tunnel leading 2 rooms with torture equipment n wall shacles. Terrifying totally. Also a huge hole in the main floor that drops clear 2 the basement. We hid our truck behind the bushes outsside . But when leaving an old sherrif fired a warming shot in the air. I nearly wrecked the truck gettin outa there.

I'm with Pagan here. Any moron that keeps writing "tata" and saying "lady of quality" is extremely annoying.

We got your point the first time you illiterate bitch.

The worst part about this is the fact that most web browsers come with a spell check built in.

So "Hagatha May" keep on writing your idiotic phrases. God you're annoying with that "TATA LADY OF QUALITY" shit. Really makes me want to punch you in the face.

Why are there so many conflicting stories? I get the feeling that there is some type of cover up here. The tie in with the brewery owner, and why would anyone want to consolidate a tuberculosis hospital with anything else? Especially an asylum or sanitarium. I am very curious to say the least! The thick door is also very alarming.
