Read the Moultrie Observer before coming here. Crime is out of control. Mexicans and blacks are destroying this once sleepy Southern town.

Johnny Reb: First off The Moultrie Observer is a crap joke of a newspaper. It really is, it is not even locally owned, it is owned by a big company out of Alabama Community Newspapers Holdings.

All they care about is selling newspapers and they have found that people like yourself tend to have an orgasm when they read about crime. So they send their reporters to the Police Office where they read over the Police Reports, and try to find something they can make into a flashy "crime story". They they use headlines like: "Thieves Cash In Over Weekend" "Shots Fired over Weekend" even if those shots turn out to be some one shooting at a fox that is in there garden. Yes your read that correct.

How do I know this you asked. I use to work for a newspaper, and I helped come up with flashy articles about crime.

The Observe sells twice as many papers when they have crime headlines compared when they have normal articles.

The man asked about public housing..... Its according to what public housing area you are talking about. Some places are old, outdated and over populated by people who shouldnt even be getting public housing BUT other places are well kept, quite and clean. If you are a little older you will probably be okay but if you are younger.....say a little prayer, you may be stuck in the slums with the hoodlums!

Yeah there are getting to be alot of blacks and mexicans, but its the south! All the people i know( And believe me growing up there you no almost everyone) have been nothing but sweet to me. There are some great brand new apartments, Some nice not so new apartment, and there are some crappy ones. But thats how it is every where. Dont judge moultrie by what people say or what you read in that stupid newspaper. Moultrie people bearly read that news paper.

Please don't judge Moultrie or Southwest Georgia by the racist who choses to post is trash on this forum. I assure you he is a minority, those scum don't venture in to the city, they are to afraid of all the lights. You will find most at the dump along with the rest of the trash.

Moultrie is a great city, with some really great people. It is finally growing and becoming even better.

Read their local paper or talk with law "enforcement". Most criminal activity, check it out if you don't believe me, is committed by hispanics and blacks. I'm white and choose to obey the law. Walk through the black ghettos and see how far you get. Walk through the white ghettos.... Hey, there are NO WHITE GHETTOS !! I wonder why ? Because most, no not all, whites are law abiding citizens.

Ok I will enlighten you. First off with more restaurants, retail, housing ect, it creates more services and options for the residents. The growth over the years has allowed a new Post Office, New Health Department, New Labor Department, New Social Security Office, more services at the Hospital, more doctors to choose from, including some we didn't have local access to like a cardiologist, a second urologist and a new Oral Surgeon is opening an office in Moultrie. Before then if you had to have any type of oral surgery you had to go out of town to have it done. Not anymore. The growth has allowed Moultrie Tech to build a large campus on Veterans Parkway and now has allowed them to get a grant to build a new $10 million dollar Allied Health building that will allow students to get first class training locally in the Allied Health Fields. Jobs: In this economy any job is a good job and the recent growth in retail has provided jobs to many. Sanderson Farms opening created over 1500 jobs including creating growers, and creates a $50 Million dollar a year economic impact on Colquitt County. The money that was used to build the Citizens Business Park which Sanderson Farms is located in, was built using sales tax dollars. In other words the money that comes in from people shopping and these new retail shops and restaurants. So the more retail/restaurants we have the more shopping that is done the more local sale tax money comes in for projects like this. A project that created 1500 much needed new jobs. I am sure all those families that depend on that job at Sanderson's will tell you the growth has affected them in a very positive way. Tax Base: The retail growth, yes from Lowes, Home Depot and Wal-Mart Super Center is how our city pays for and supports services to its residents like fire and police protection, remodeling of schools that has been going on. This is positive for our students and community. Construction: Look at all the workers that have jobs building all these new homes, apartments, retail store and restaurants. I would say those families that depend on that construction work to make a living would say the growth has made there lives a lot better. Those are just a few ways the growth has made things better Mr. Johnny Reb. I could go on and on, it is very clear that you do not have a clue about economics or how this growth has very much affected you and the residents here in more positive ways than you could imagine. It takes money to provide services for residents, the local tax base is a big way that money comes in, and growth helps that to grow.
So I hope you are a little more "enlightened now!

Dear mr big dog .
Black, whites, cuban , and mexican or other nationalities make Moultrie the community it is today. Their are good and bad everywhere not just from one race or culture. People make their own choices. I believe if you are not happy living where you choose . Well you can make the choice to move some where you will be happier. Must we be reminded this is not a perfect world and neither the people in it . Yet Moultrie is a non perfect city either , yet people here that find things wrong here are looking for the bad and not the good. By all means not perfect but alot of good.

Don't forget the GIGANTIC leap in property taxes, Nafu. A doctor moves away, a doctor moves in, it's like a revolving door for doctors. Lowes and Home Depot received HUGE tax breaks by building their stores in Moultrie. Sanderson Farms ? I hope it doesn't move out of town when their tax subsidies run out. All the new construction ? You talking about these little vacant shopping complexes all around town ? Whoopee ? Moultrie is not a progressive town.
