Crime has been rising for a while, but will rise even faster when unemployment goes up.

One way for a citizen to protect oneself from crime would be to get a Concealed Carry permit from the Mississippi Department of Public Safety:

http://www.dps.state.ms.us/dps/dps.nsf/divpag...

Or, follow this link to the downloadable application:

Once you have gone through the steps,(fingerprinted, photographed and background checked) and have obtained a MS Concealed Carry permit, then you can start legally carrying a handgun either concealed or open.

Some will say this is a drastic measure to take, they are right and carrying a concealed weapon isn't for everyone, but look at the recent crimes here in Moss Point, looks to me like the time for drastic measures just may be here.

Some will say 'let the police handle the crime', tell that to the family of the grandfather that was killed while asking for directions, or even the guy that had his wallet stolen, I could go on and on.

Remember, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

Carrying a handgun is a serious responsibility not to be taken lightly, but I will tell you this, your 'situation awareness'(aware of what is going on around you) goes way up when you are carrying a weapon, especially if you are openly carrying.

I invite anyone interested in learning more about safely and legally carrying a handgun to join me at www.opencarry.org . We primarily discuss Open Carrying issues, but Concealed Carry is also discussed.

Be safe.

I agree with Mississippian. More people should get permits carry a gun with them at all times. I once lived in pascagoula and crime is just as bad, especially if you live in an apartment. I will not give the name of the apartment i was living in but my apartment was robbed without any forced entry while i was hospitalized. Shelia Smallmen was an investigator for the Pascagoula Police dept at that time and she did very little to find the people who robbed my apartment. It was obvious that they had an idea who robbed my apartment but the suspected my family had something to do with robbery, however, i was told that some of the items was found behind dollar general which was impossible because it was raining during this time and the items that was retured would have been damaged and unusable. I have reason to believe that they new the individual that robbed my apartment but because i was black, they could have cared less. Protect yourself and get you a damn gun and use it if you have to.
