It's a newly defined urban area proposed by the U.S. Census Bureau. It runs from north of Santa Cruz to south of Salinas with Watsonville in between. Full Story

I'm fine with having Watsonville lumped in with Salinas. We're certainly similar. What I don't like is being considered to be in the same reality as Santa Cruz. I wish the census people would put Santa Cruz in a different district with a finger extending over Highway 17 and up 880 to Berkeley. Then maybe everybody would be happy.

There is government support everywhere. If you drive a car/truck which uses gas/diesel, you are one of the most subsidized persons in the community. If you use Chevron gas (from Colombia if on west coast, most likely), the US taxpayers pay 3 dollars per gallon for military security along the Colombian pipeline just to get it to port. The costs go on and on. If you drive a gas guzzler like an SUV you are, by your definition, a liberal dependent on federal government spending. Hiways/streets/CHP/accelerated depreciation on ships, refineries/etc.(Not saying this is bad spending, just that it is MASSIVE spending)
People create things by working, often converting natural resources to more refined things, and often creating machines that then make more things. If we grow enough food, and make enough stuff, society goes on and people live their lives. Money is a fictitious concept that is used to implement societal/business/governmental decisions on who will get what. That's all it is. Lack of "money" isn't important to a society. Lack of food/housing/heat/schools/stuf f is.(And it's nice to have some toys too!)

This sounds a lot like Curious Cat's unlamented drivel. Is this you, John?

I drive a car & always will. Public transportation is a joke and is not viable for 98% of the public. Stop giving our tax money to losers. It's madness.
Actually people have no idea how good we have it here with our public transportation. Check out S. Cals. RTD you can't get 45 minutes away on one of their buses without making multiple tranfers and having the bus you just waited 45 minutes for just blow right past you. Turning that what should have been a short trip into an all afternoon expeirience. This is why I learned how to drive in the first place, self defense against the RTD!

Do me a favor: Read the US Constitution and look at the bits where it delegates powers for the executive and legislative bodies, then take a gander at the 9th and 10th Amendment.
The federal government isn't responsible for our rinkadink bus system. Read the enumerated powers again. They are clear as day.
We live in a federal republic. We have a division of government labor in this country. Federal, state and local governments have different responsibilities.
You may have been stoned in your US civics course in high school, so you might have missed out on the definition, but it might do you some good to go over the material again.
The internet is your friend.
Just to be crystal clear again: The federal government is not our daddy and liberals shouldn't be pathetically waiting for handouts from the federal government.

And you sound like a European or Canadian socialist. Our government was fought for and formed in the latter part of the 1700's. Neither of us were around then, but it's lasted for, and been envied, for quite awhile. If you don't like the fact we are a Constitutional Republic, with democratic elections....then you can certainly seek to immigrate to one of the socialist leaning countries.

America is a Social Democracy, and will continue to be indefinitely. The Constitutional Republic you blabber about was ruined by greedy capitalists time and time again, making this model outmoted today. We are, and will continue to develop as a Social Democracy.

You don't like it? Move to Texas, I'm sure that state will secede someday.

You are a maroon. Show me where the Constitution has been amended to make the US a socialist country. References (such as the amendment, or codified laws) please.

I hope you wear a red star on your clothing, so you can be identified quickly when patriots need to act in the interest of the Grand Republic.

Bring back slavery and landed white male rule!

No care for non whites, women and children losers.

Let me at the trees, mountains, river and seas.

While your at it could you get the Government to give me land to build a cross continental railway through? The big 5 will appreciate it.

Lets get together over Tea and talk about patriotism and the Capitalist dream.

By the way, who gave our Nation Bank to the Globalists? Anny one see where the value of our dollar went? Bring back the gold standard!
