" A few years ago hundreds of thousands of chinook swam up the Sacramento, he said...Professional anglers didn't cause the problem, he said. Water diversions and dams are the culprits in the fishery's decline." Sentinel Article

Habitat loss is the culprit; wish fishermen killed half as many Salmon as farmers.

All winter run Sacramento Chinook original habitat is above Shasta Dam.

N.M.F.S. flat out states 70-90% of all original California Salmon spawning habitat is gone.

Blame the greed of over fishing in the past for the blight of the present.

One quiet 4th weekend for sure. Wonder how the enviorment is doing out there in the ocean. I'm one of these bad guys who uses bleach in their wash. My grandad knew someone who layed cable out in the ocean. The cables closet to our shores were aged, the cables that were further out and laid out for longer amount of time but still looked like new.

Think it had something to with the UPS strike years ago because I had to go to the airport and pickup some boxes of lobster for a restaurant. The lobsters were flown in from the East Coast. It ain't always local, and it comes from somewhere, Oregon included. Yeah, fresh caught lobsters only come from the East Coast. Couldn't resist...

it ain't over fishing, it's over-farming and over development in the central valley. diverting the river water for almonds, mcmansions, and lawns is what killed the salmon.

Sacramento dumps a lot of sewage and chemicals into the river and it kills lots of fish. I've never eaten anything caught in that cesspool. California is too overpopulated and killing itself with too many immigrants, from 49 other states, not to ention the illegals. The ecosystem and utilities are over loaded...
