I don't believe it for one minute that there is a shortage. The farmers markets around here (Central Ohio) were overflowing with pumpkins. Maybe Libby's didn't ask around because they stuck to their "contracted" farmers who may have had some trouble. Just like the oil industry, they create their own shortages so they can artificially raise prices when one really doesn't exist.

Pumpkin is an item that people should always have in their pantry, not just fall and holiday time. It has so many uses that go beyond pie. Check out other uses. If someone wants fresh it can be grown in a relatively small space in the fall and then you'll have your pumpkin! It will grow in container also you just have to contain vines and cut what aren't producing.
