The first cut needs to be the Chief of Police Allen. Did anyone do a background investigation and find out anything about this guy before he was hired? Need to check with Spalding Co and Grantville and you will find some interesting info.

Well your comment was not in any way constructive with regards to the article!!! Just an FYI...Franklin Allen's leadership ability and any skeletons that may or may not be in his closet have nothing to do with the massive mess he has inherited from a grossly mismanaged town! Don't blame him for the irresponsible frivolous spending sprees the mayor has been responsible for! Apparently the city has been well in the black for years and all of a sudden we are almost a third of a MILLION bucks in the red???? WTF??!!! Me thinks the skeletons we need to be worrying about are in Luther's and the council member's closets!!! Is it true what I heard that it was recently approved to spend $12,000 on Christmas lights???!! You have GOT to be kidding! Never mind that Christmas for the laid off employees and their families will now be dismal.(no I am not one of them or even know any of them!)Seems to me an audit needs to be done post-haste and the citizens need to demand WHERE DID THE MONEY GO??!!! It is afterall public record!! Show us where it went and stop punishing the ones who are here to protect the citizens of this city. Shame on you mayor!!! Can no one see it is time for some big changes in the council???

Well it sounds like chief Allen and the Mayor will get along just fine. The neither know the meaning of budget. And if you look at the 10,000 he spent on himself to go Southern Police Institute in the beginning of this year with the money from taxpayers in Grantville. you will see that being in the red is just getting started. leave him over the Police Department Budget and there will be no city. look it up Newnan times Herald archives Newspaper.

Well if you do a little more digging you may learn that that trip was approved by Grantville's city council something like 9 months prior to the trip. Not like he up and took a trip without anyone's knowledge. Blame the city council for approving it! The same city council VOTED in by Grantville's taxpayers.

As much as you may want it to that whole thing has not a damn thing to do with what is going on in Jonesboro! I, for one, would much rather see $12,000 spent towards police training (or saving someone's job!) rather than Christmas lights!!!

Well well well, you guys are really funny.. If you look at Chief Allens history in detail, (not the rumors) you will find that he left Spalding County because someone up high in ranks got mad because Allen uncovered some corruption within the higher ranks.. Thats called Police work..duh.. And as far as Grantville is conserned.. Have you ever even been to that Inbred town of degenerates.. I mean please.. He did wonders for that small town. And the Southern Police Institute trip was NOT paid for by tax payers.. It was paid for by Drug dealers.. Get your facts straight before you go slander a good man... As far as the City of Jonesboro is concerned. They have just hired a great Chief. I am a citizen in the City of Jonesboro (lifetime citizen) and I for one am totally pleased with his professionalism and the ability to take over a complete and total mess of an administration within the Police Dept.. God bless him for the courage he must have to deal with some idiot council members.. We must vote them out if we want the city to strive once again.. Get Mayor Day in there and She along with Chief Allen And Wiggins they city will grow to where it use to be.. Oh, and replace the Volunteer Fire Dept... Stop trying to blame things on Chief Allen and try to work with him if you really care about our city...

Awwwww...finally the voice of reason! There is hope. Chief Allen is one of the best things to happen to the police dept. He has jumped from the frying pan of the backwards town of Grantville to the fire of Jonesboro where he has the challenge of getting rid of the cancer in the police dept. Of course you can only do so much when you keep running into roadblocks from the council. History isn't pretty.

Folks who want to concentrate on blaming the current problems of a dept on a newcomer to that dept by grasping at straws by perpetuating rumors of their past obviously must have a personal axe to grind
because they were perhaps one of those 'cancers' to have been taken care of at some point by that newcomer. Hmmmmm?
