The aromas of delicately spiced fried chicken fills the sunny restuarant. I ordered a standard soul food plate: fried chicken, collard greens, mac & cheese, cornbread, and sweet tea. The fried chicken was the bomb! Homemade, well seasoned, and almost didnt need hot sauce. I was impressed the collards selection -- simmered in salt pork or smoked turkey. Choose your favorite. I got the turkey, lil' bits of smoked turkey were throughout--they were chopped & fresh (not canned!) excellent. What can I say about the mac & cheese...except i went back the next day for lunch! It was the cheesy baked kind very flavorful. The cornbread is done like my Alabama grandma does when she's in a hurry--it looks like little golden cornmeal pancakes. They are tender (white cornmeal) with a fine buttermilk flavor. The sweet tea was good and comes with your meal. The diner is sunny, attractive and very clean. Hostesses and waiters are warm and friendly--quick to offer any condiments you might need. Food is served cafeteria style -- but portion sizes are generous. Plates start at around $5 bucks. A GREAT value and a wonderful place to take the family for a slow-cooked down home meal.
