We liked 3 items in tokyo joe's menu, and to be fair to the place I will say that much. I truly cannot believe the waitress that they have working at this place, she was very obviously fighting with her "suggar-daddy" a few seconds before rudley asking if we were ready to order without so much as a attempt at even a fake smile. I was even more horrified by the mushy pile of old fish called "sushi"and the disgustingly ghetto "microwaved" sake ( I wonder if harada's microwaves their sake?)
Maybe these people should have gotten the hint when it took 3 years for the city of morro bay to let them open.

please give your hard earned money to positive hardworking people in our community,

I have to object to this review. I have worked for 2 sushi restaurants in the southern california area for the last 3 1/12 years and while I don't consider myself an expert, I would like to believe I know a little about sushi and customer service. I will agree the service sucked. The first time we went, we were pretty convinced our server was on multiple drugs. He never introduced himself, didn't tell us about the specials, was obviously bored because when we kept asking for more time he came back every 2 seconds to ask if we were ready yet, he forgot to put in our salad order, didn't know the difference between sashimi and nigiri because he brought me the opposite of what I ordered, and brought the entree before the app. However there was another employee who wasn't our server that kept coming back to check on us and refilled drinks, cleared plates etc. The second time, the girl didn't seem like an actual server, maybe just someone helping out since they might have been short handed, because she clearly didnt really know what she was doing. She forgot to bring us waters, she forgot our miso that came with the dinner, and never refilled our waters once we got them. She did smile, was nice to us and did check up on us. Once again though, there was another male server there who made up for all of this and was clearly very good at his job.
That being said, the sushi was actually great and reasonably priced. There were some interesting specialty roll creations, some riceless rolls for those on a low-carb diet, a couple deep dried rolls for beginning sushi eaters. I really enjoyed the tuna tataki. I also liked how several of the specialty rolls are offered as hand rolls for those who arent as hungry. While the sake selection is limited it is pretty cheap. The Kurosawa Kimoto sake, a medium range sake was only $10 at Tokyo Joe's and normally is around $14 to $15. It was fun that they have tv screens that play surf videos, but those who are easily distracted should face away from the screen.

I am upset that the first review was so negative. Because it wasnt all that bad. If they want to find another sushi restaurant as good in the area, good luck. Ive been 3 times in the last 3 weeks, while my boyfriend went 3 times last week alone. Maybe the service was bad, but the quality of the food, the reason for going to eat at a restaurant has kept us coming back.

Oh, and if you don't want to be ghetto, why are you ordering hot sake?
