This boy's father should let him go with the Wilcox family. If he doesn't, when the boy turns 18 he is never going to want to see his father again.

It sounds to me like the Wilcox family gave Darryl a good loving life and because of that he will be a better person despite the fact that his parents weren't there for him.

What a story and how sad for the young man. Under these circumstances, you would think that everyone would have the best interest of the child. These situations are probably all complex, but it shouldn't be OK to desert a child and then come waltzing back in and demand they be returned. It's not to say the father hasn't changed and should not be a part of the boys life, but to uproot him while being disrespectful to the parents that helped raise and nurture him this far into his life, is just so ungrateful, unkind and selfish.

Why could he not have liberal visitation with his son and allow him to remain in the only home he knew? When children are young, let's face it, there is a lot more work caring for them. To go through those years with a child then suddenly have to return him seems cold, even if it is the law. I agree that law needs to be changed--if you cannot give reason for your absence you should not be permitted to reclaim a child you once deserted.

....And the court system wonders why there aren't more foster families or why people adopt outside the US.. It's because of the court system & lawyers who are only out to make a buck and could care less about the truth. It's obvious the father could care less about the son! The foster family should have been given FULL custody YEARS ago. Both of the boys parents should have been stripped of their rights when they decided to drop their son off and not return for him. It's pretty bad when a child finds a family that genuinely loves him & wants him and shows it unconditionally for years.. that the court system would even find time to entertain a court case like that. Hopefully the judge & lawyers who had any part in ripping the boy away from his loving foster family and putting him in harms way with his father, THINK about what they've done and can't sleep at night!
