As a resident of Morrisville, I am outraged that the Town would even consider allowing the Shiloh Crossing project. We have enough road troubles with cut-through traffic from adjacent towns and the constant increase in our own residential numbers. Add to that the additional crime a Wal-mart will attract and how stores in this center will detract from shoppers willing to go the the Town's planned "downtown". As irritated as I am, I can't help but laugh. Morrisville has grown uncontrolably fast in the past few years partially because the little town leaders don't know how to say "no" to anything. Take a look around, the Town is losing it's identity and soon will be just another Wal-mart stop for the neighbors. Bravo.

As a resident of Morrisville, I couldn't agree more. You hit the nail on the head.

I agree. Morrisville has no vision. They plan for a "quaint downtown" but put nothing in it to attract anyone to go there. If all the development is at the fringes who's going to the center? Get a grip. the only thing worse is Cary has the same misguided ideas. SPRAWL SPRAWL SPRAWL!

If you want to live near the airport and have the conveniences of a short commute this is the place to be!!

You have the choice of several new communities including Twin Lakes, Kitts Creek, and others....

The amenities will be right next to the I540 exit and will be a great benefit to the families moving to this area...so...I'm not sure what the big deal is..

My daughter goes to school at Cary Academy next to the Wal Mart and I'll just have to get over the fact that it's moving.

Sweet heart- Cary Academy is near a Sam's (that is not moving- we're just getting ANOTHER) and Wal mart is indeed the anchor for Shiloh Crossing. In fact these 2 stores together will total over 200,000 sq ft of UGLY DISGUSTING cheap retail. And since its Morrisville, they will demand nothing in terms of appearance and nothing but turn lanes in terms of roads. Brace yourselt for traffic- FUN FUN FUN. Glad I never travel in that direction.

The Sam's on Harrison Avenue will close, once Sam's on 54+540 opens. This is according to Sam's rep from the town meeting.

For those interested.... PARK WEST (former Andrx property)has begun the rezoning process. The first public comment session is scheduled for the Planning and Zoning meeting on Thursday, October 11, 2007 at 6:00 PM.(Planning and Zoning Board meetings take place at town hall.) The property is located at the corner of Cary Pkwy and Hwy 54, the parcel formerly owned by Andrx.(Bristol-Myers before that.)
Current zoning is Industrial Management, proposal is Mixed Use. The site plan for the 100 acre parcel looks allot like North Hills, with a "National Large Retailer With Grocery" of 185,000 sq ft. Also included: hotel, various and assorted retail, movie theatres, specialty grocery, 30k sq ft electronics store, restaurants and an office or two. Competition list includes Briar Creek, Streets at Southpoint, Cary Towne Center, Crabtree Valley Mall, Beaver Creek and Crossroads Plaza. Not a mom-and-pop-small-townish-sit- a-spell kind of place.
Brochures and site plan and such can be found at:
http://www.castolp.com/lifestyle/profile.cfm... and
http://www.castolp.com/files/ProjectDownload/...
And because I like to hear myself talk - The town can't require offsite road improvements of a developer and the state has no plans to widen Hwy 54 (in Morrisville) anytime soon.
So. The Morrisville Planning and Zoning Board meeting on the 11th at 6 PM.

That portion of Morrisville should be Cary anyway. Just offer it up for annexation and Wall-Mart will be out of your town

The more stores the better - if we lose Sams on Harrison it's nothing but positive. I hear Goodnight wants to create more upscale shopping like that across the streat w/Bonefish, Carolina Cafe, Starbucks, etc.

The comment that having a Samís and/or a Wal-Mart will increase crime needs some proof to back it up.
Comparing a shopping center to Viet Nam is also kind of a stretch. At least it was not a comparison with Iraq.
Correction, it was only twenty-nine pairs of Nike shoes, and three bras I took that time. In addition, I hid under a Lexus and not in the woods.

I also have a problem understanding how a Walmart shopping center increases crime. Does this mean there were no criminals in that area before? If so, did Walmart executives bring these degenerates to the site of their new store? If the Walmart Corp did not create and deliver said criminals, then how is a Walmart store directly responsible? Could it be that the criminals that are already working your area, decide to hit a Walmart AS WELL? I think so. I do not see how reasoning that a Walmart increases crime is logical.
Question #2: Do Family Dollar, K-Mart, JCPenney, Sears, Food Lion, Harris Teeter, Dillards, Shopping Malls, assorted gas stations and quickie marts get robbed? Of course they do! Do you hold them responsible for creating crime as well???

I for one welcome our new Walmart overlords. No, seriously. If Morrisville had said no, they would have moved the project a few hundred feet west into Durham county. In fact, the county line splits both the Walmart and Sam's neatly in half.
Check out the brochure for the shopping center, it looks pretty nice.

I understand the Sams Club on Harrison Avenue will close around 1 Feb 2009. The new Sam's Club on Hwy 55 will open around (or sooner) mid-November.

They are going to let the old Sam's Club "inventory out" after Christmas.

I just drove by last week and it didn't look like the store was ready to open. Probably another couple of weeks. Good point John Gait about the inventory close-out at the Harrison Sams.
