Police in Durham, NC, announced today a reward in the case of Janet Marie Christiansen Abaroa, a young mother found stabbed to death in her home on the night of April 26, 2005. The Carole Sund/Carrington Memorial Reward Foundation is offering $5,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in Janet's case. On the afternoon of April 26, 2005, Janet Abaroa and her husband Raven picked up their 6 month-old son Kaiden from daycare before dropping Janet's car off for some automotive repairs. Afterwards, the family went home, where Janet and Raven met with a home-teacher from their church. At about 8:30 P.M. Raven left in his gray Dodge Durango for an indoor soccer game in Morrisville, NC. No mention has been made as to the whereabouts of the family's third vehicle, a 1999 Special Edition Ironman VX. Raven Abaroa, who has since relocated to Sandy, Utah with his infant son, was the one to discover Janet's body after returning from the soccer game shortly before 11 P.M. He phoned police, informed them that his wife was injured and that it appeared that she had been shot. 6 month-old Kaiden was in a nearby room in his crib, fortunately unharmed. Police spent approximately 24 hours at the scene collecting evidence, including a knife and a pawn shop ticket taken from the Durango, soil samples also from the Durango, swabbings from inside of the home, and the clothing which Raven had been wearing that night. No arrests have been made and no suspects have been named. Police continue to say that they do not believe that this was a random crime, and in spite of a laptop computer being reported missing from the home, there were no obvious signs of a break-in. Anyone with information is asked to call the Durham Police Department at (919) 560-4440, ext. 247 or CrimeStoppers at (919) 683-1200.

I would like to add that the husband, Raven Abaroa had no connection to Reward and has never taken a polygraph.

Janet's friends and family are putting together a memorial site for Janet. You can go see it at .

I seriously don't know if anyone ever reads these boards... but if you knew Janet Christiansen Abaroa, or her husband Raven Abaroa, and you have any information that you haven't shared about the murders with the police, now is the time to come forward. This family has suffered long enough, the person that is responsible for this crime needs to be brought to justice. Please call the Durham Police Department at (919) 560-4440, ext. 247 or CrimeStoppers at (919) 683-1200.

I certainly hope that the murderer, and you know who you are, is brought to justice.

If anyone who happens to read here knows ANYTHING, or suspects ANYONE, please, call crimestoppers and tell them what you know. Janet's family has waited far too long for the truth.

I just visited and it is a beautiful tribute for a very beautiful woman who was carrying a child that was brutally taken from this Earth.

I hope that the community of Durham realizes what a great loss they had when Janet was stabbed to death in her home. Janet was a mother of a 6 month old when she was murdered and her murder and that of her unborn child to this date, goes unsolved.

If anyone remembers anything, please contact the Durham Police Department at (919) 560-4440, ext. 247 and ask for Detective Vaughn or CrimeStoppers at (919) 683-1200.

Trix, if you haven't been over to WS in a while, I haven't been in a long long time, but check out the thread above. Seems someone who worked with and knew Raven and Janet is speaking out. Here is a small clip of that post:

"I worked with both of the Abaroas, Janet was a sweet heart and Raven was one of the biggest assholes I ever came across. Besides, ripping off the company, being a mormon he was having sex with half our call center and he didn't keep it under wraps by any means. So he gets fired, she quits out of shame, about to be evicted, trying to raise a child and he finds out they are expecting again...and she ends up dead.

Typical Durham justice, he is skiing in Utah right now."

There is a bunch of new stuff there since I've been over there but I see that you still check in regularly. Good for you.

I can't believe it's been almost a year. My heart aches for Janet's loved ones. Especially for Kaiden. Bless his heart.

this is just a clip from the above link:

"Janet Abaroa, 25, was found dead by her husband the night of April 26 inside her home at 2606 Ferrand Drive. Her 6-month-old son, Kaiden, was in the next room, uninjured, police said. At the time, police said there were no signs of forced entry and the crime was "not random," but they have not named any suspects.

On Tuesday, police said a laptop computer was missing from the home. They also said that on her last day, Abaroa went to pick up her son from day care, then she and her husband dropped off her car for repairs, according to a Durham police news release.

That evening, the couple hosted a friend from church at their home. About 8:30 p.m., Raven Abaroa went to Morrisville for a soccer game, the release said. About 11 p.m., he returned and found his wife dead, kneeling on the floor of a bedroom, according a medical examiner's report."

What interests me is no one has ever come forward to say I was in Morrisville playing soccer too.

Anyone out there play soccer in a pick up game on April 26 from around 8:30pm until 11:00pm with a guy named Raven?

I would dearly love to find anyone who can honestly say they saw him playing soccer that night. It would be much easier to believe he had nothing to do with this murder. There are so many things that point striaght to Janet's husband Raven that I seriously doubt it could have been anyone else.

I don't know anything about this case, but it has been said that Janet's car was dropped off for service that day. I hope the cops checked that out. People...never leave any of your keys with the mechanic except your car key!! DO NOT give them your whole key ring. They will have access to your house!! It only takes a few minutes to get a key made. Also, this case is similar to the Michelle Young case. Both seem to point to the husband, however, both women were pregnant and had small children at home and were killed about the same time at night. I am not sure how close they lived to each other.
God Bless them both and their families.

I am so sorry about the lose of any human being especially a female with an unborn child. I am a mother of three and I will be expecting another in February. My heart goes out. There are many unanswered question to this case. Such as Did he check in to see if she was o.k. being home alone? That's just common sense as being married and concerned. I do that with my husband as well as he does that with me on a regular. And I wasn't pregnant all year round. What kind of school or friends or whatever have you schedules a night game. The vehicles, fingerprints. What time did the guest leave? Did she have a motive? Not everyone that goes to church is a saint of GOD. I am a college graduate major in psychology. I along with many have more question as would LOVE to help solve this. God be with the family and friends Iwill still be checking up and try along with everyone else to put the pieces back together. God bless you all and to the kill(ers) your day will come on earth and especially in heaven.

I know about these indoor soccer places and there are later games because the kids games are earlier. The games last for about an hour or less. People are left alone all the time. When your a college student espeacially. I'm not married so i'm not one to say whether you should call your spouse every 30 minutes. He was home before he went to his game and came straight back after. You have no say whether he didnt call and check on her. He didnt even know she was pregnant. I'm not saying that he didnt or did call or even murder his wife but we cant start making conclusions when we dont have enough info.

look at the logic in this case.... the number one suspect would be him.. who says that he didnt left the game and went to kill her... if he didnt he should have called her regardless if he didnt kno that she was pregnant... i'm married and my husband calls me every 45 mins to check up on me when i'm home alone or even with our child thats 2 years... he should be very protective of his family...

Janet's car was dropped off for service for repairs. My opinion is that Raven Abaroa, or Raven Peters or Raven Samuel Abaroa Peters whatever he's going by today did it because he knew that the vehicle would have a long drive ahead with his parent back to Utah after the murder. He kept up his vehicles, but this was Janet's vehicle, and it wasn't as important as his vehicles.

The person that came to the home was a visiting home teacher that in no way had anything to do with Janet's murder.

IMO both Janet's murder and and Michelle Young's murder were committed by narcissistic sociopathic husbands.

Just because no arrest has been made, doesn't mean the husband didn't do it. It's a CE case with no weapon and no witnesses.

Durham has undergone a lot of political changes and Police Department changes and cases like this are harder cases to try because of Double Jeopardy.

Raven Abaroa Peters also moved to Utah soon after the murder, in September 2008 he remarried and is now going through a divorce. He just recently moved to Southern California to be with his new girlfriend.

These type of men, that feel that they got away with murder do it again, because they think they are above the law. Look at Barton Corbin and also, the popular case of Drew Peterson. It seems quite likely that he has killed two of his wives and his current wife Stacy is still missing, yet he's engaged again.

Sad, but some day these men will be where they belong, behind bars.

LOL you are not Free....and how appalling that you would use someone elses "handle" to post. The Provo, UT gives it away.

It's always quite amusing when Raven or one of the relatives of his posts anonymously defending him. There's been a whopping what 6 posts all over the internet defending this sociopath.

First of all Raven was a married man at the time with a wife and a 6-month old child at home, he was not a college student, though I'm sure he's told other people different stories.

How do you know for a fact he did not know Janet was pregnant? I'm willing to bet he knew she was pregnant. I'll pay for a lie detector's test to be taken by The Rave.

He was having affairs at the time of the murder, he was also under indictment for embezzlement a few months before Janet's murder. He is now a convicted Felon and was charged with that embezzlement.

Are you sure he came "straight" back after the game? Are you sure he went straight to the game?

This guy is a chronic thief, chronic cheater, chronic liar, chronic con man and all we can hope is that he is put away before he becomes a chronic murderer.

There's plenty of information about Raven, all the information points to Raven, all you have to do is look for it.

Before you date the punk ask him to take a Lie Detector's test. Better yet, if you are a friend or relative, ask him point blank why he killed Janet, but imo I wouldn't turn my back to him. He does like his "buck-knife".

Abaroa's Second Wife Speaks Out
Posted: May. 12, 2009
Updated: Today at 6:03 p.m.

DURHAM COUNTY — The new wife of Raven Abaroa, a person of interest in the 2005 stabbing death of his first wife Janet, has come forward with startling details about her relationship with Abaroa that may assist the murder investigation.
Vanessa Pond, of Utah, told NC WANTED in an exclusive interview that during their short marriage, Raven was abusive both physically and mentally, profoundly deceitful, and prone to sudden, intense mood swings.
Investigators met with Vanessa, who was joined by her parents, Randy and JoDean Pond, while they were in Durham for the NC WANTED interview to gain a better perspective on the Raven Abaroa only a wife could know, and what that might mean for the Janet Abaroa murder investigation.
Vanessa Pond and Raven Abaroa met in early December of 2007 and were engaged six months later, on Mother’s Day. As the wedding approached, Vanessa said, Raven’s behavior shifted. He became violent.

“The day of my bridal shower was the first time. He threw me down and he pushed me around that day,” Vanessa told NC WANTED. She was reluctant to tell her story to the media, fearing for her safety in Utah with Raven nearby, but she ultimately felt that it was the right thing to do.
“I don’t want anyone else to ever be in this same position, ever. And he’ll keep on going. He’s starting to slip and he’s becoming more dangerous,” she said.
After two and half months of marriage, the couple separated on Christmas Eve 2008. Vanessa recalled the night he left:

“He was in the process of cursing me out and calling me names, telling me how much he hated me, and he didn’t care if I died. So he was pushing me around in the bathroom and wouldn’t let me out of the bathroom… Then he said,‘you know what? I want to hit you so bad. I don’t care, I’m going to hit you; I can’t get in trouble for it anymore,’” she said.
“And later, as Raven was leaving, he went downstairs and grabbed Kaiden and said,‘come on, we have to go. Mommy doesn’t want us anymore… Who does that to a child?”.
