Does anyone go out to the 1-81 flea market? A friend of mine went out there and bought some baby food for my daughter. I thought he got them at food city, and when I was getting ready to open one, all the experation dates & bar codes were marked out with a pernament marker, I am so glad I caught that! I can't believe people are selling stuff like that out there, it's dangerous.

Need to tell your "friend" that baby food or any other food should never come from a flea market

Why would anyone buy baby food at a flea market???

I would not buy food at a flea market. Like I said a friend bought it and gave it to me in a Food City bag, so I assumed that is where it came from. I put this post on here to serve as a warning to other people. Someone in authority needs to go out there and look around. From what I have been told people are selling all kinds of animals, food, illegal CDs and DVDs, even cigarettes. I don't know who to contact about it, but something needs to be done. It is no longer a flea market--it is a crook's market.

I have talked to many local tax-paying merchants that are trying to compete with the counterfeit merchandise being sold there, and no law body seems to care or feels their hands are tied.

This is not a victimless crime. We all suffer with loss of tax dollars. The legal merchants have to collect sales tax, pay rent or payments on buildings, and property taxes, employees, light bills, etc. The legal merchants also have to pay much more to obtain legal copies of CDs, DVDs, etc. You have heard about "puppy mills", guess where these animals come from

These taxes help keep our community operating, our schools open, pays city and county employees salaries, etc. When taxes are not collected by government, they have to get the money from somewhere; guess where that money will come from---us, the people trying to abide by the laws.

Yes, I fully agree this little game needs to be broken up. The sooner the better.

I was at the flea market today and the sheriff was there. He brought along the short bus full of inmates dressed in orange. The sheriff busted a few tables with cds, etc. The merchandise was confiscated along with this one man's car, and money! Just reporting!

besides the people selling conterfeit cds, dvds, etc.... let's remember the people that are there selling personal nick nacks, children's clothes, antiques, etc... ALot of those people are struggling families trying to make some extra money since gas and groceries are so high.

You were talking about all the tax dollars lost? Well aren't we paying enough taxes. Let these people (that are selling personal items ) have a break and please show some empathy.

Agree 100% with what you are saying. I was referring to people selling stolen or illegal merchandise, and probably have no legal right in this country.

About time something was done, I've seen them out there for weeks. Some of the items being sold turn their charges into federal offenses. It would be nice if we could get the police to regularly check the vendors and such. I can't believe they get away with selling big bins of medicine.

You dont know what your talking about.
Mary and Betty cant always regulate who and what is sold there.
As long as you pay for your table and follow instructions you sell what you want.
The flea market in Sevierville is just as bad there are bootleggers there also.
