Anybody got any suggestions for dealing with anxiety. No Xanax or Ativan or any of that crap either. Just natural self help cures

When you feel it coming on do some deep breathing. Try and I do mean try to stay away from stressful things. Also you can call someone to talk to and tell that person to talk and try getting your mind off the anxiety. Don`t talk about the anxiety. I have been dealing with anxiety attacks for years. I am praying you get over this.
just try

I suffer too. Try focusing on an object. Pick something and just stare block out everything else and try to make your mind go blank. And don't forget it will pass. I know how horrible they can be.

I had it bad after open heart surgery, the doctors just want you on drugs and like you it is NOT the way to go. Excersize and walking several times a day. Remember it cannot hurt you, take deep breaths and think of something calming. Give yourself time it will go away. I had trouble sleeping for over a year and took herbals for this. Google it.You will get better and overcome it. Take care.

loving these comments/suggestions. Just started having these lately myself and have been reading up on ways to deal. My doctor gave me paxil, but I'm not sure if I like the way it makes me feel...almost worst than the actual attacks):

Get exercise, break yourself down. Get your body to produce natural chemicals to control these feelings. Your life has gotten way too easy if you set around and get anxious about things. Get out there and live, move, feel pain. Get back to normal. And for god's sake, stay off the pills.

The only thing that has worked for me is Xanax I do not take it in excess I dont even take it how its prescribed just when I need to. Good luck!!! and before anyone comments negative. I have severe panic disorder to the point I have been to the ER hooked up and the Dr waiting for the MI to happen. I tried it all. That is the only thing that has worked for me.

An anxiety attack cannot cause a MI. The worst that could happen is you'll faint. I know you're going to come back saying that it can, but think about it. An emotional/psychiatric problem cannot cause you to have a blockage in your coronary artery, which is what a MI is.

Still working on it, lots of good R.E.M. sleep, melatonin helps.(R.E.M. Sleep is the time where dreams come from)
Talking things over, those meds you mentioned are for extreme episodes and only temporarily for a few months if you take them everyday like you would a vitamin. Just finding a neutral person in your life who you can vent to helps a lot, it's a good way to let yourself work out the stress and anxiety by talking out loud then hearing yourself. Kinda how it makes remembering numbers easier if you say them under your breath to yourself.
Always ask a doctor tho because lots of diseases and illness have anxiety as a symptom, plus them can prescribe the right medication that helps you help yourself, even if you're prescribed xanax or ativan they are to be used as tools not as crutches. If and when you ever need them remember they're more of a last resort.
