I have more faith in the appointment of Nigel Reed as chair of MUS than McGuffin because McGuffin has done a piss poor job of controling cost and providing a fair job Descrimination policy. This town needs an enima! Dick, George, Kay(what a joke), C. Bivens, P. LeBel need to move on to the Lake of Fire and save The Christ the job of throwing them in!

Did King George order the Gov. of Tennessee to over ride the will of the Majority of the Morristown Voting Public? When did the Gov. of Tennessee become a servent of George? Who does the Morristown Police, State Legislature, and The Gov.
work for? The one thing I know is that they are the enemy of anyone who is decent, honest or fair!
Because they break the covenent with the will people, they are enemies of freedom!

Perhaps there are other qualified candidates for the MUS position, bit please tell me this: what has George McGuffin done that makes him a careless choice for his current position. The discrimination claims are inaccurate. MUS has to meet the same EEO requirements as any other municipal organizations, and I know for a fact they have even stepped up their equal opportunity selection process during the past few years.

So please tell me, why is he unfit for the position and why does city council deserve to burn in hell as one poster said.

Sounds to me like it's personal.

This just shows the general ignorance of people. McGuffin had nothing to do with the governor's involvement. I doubt Gov. Haslam would be too interested in helping George McGuffin since George supported the guy that ran against him, Mike McWherter.

From Linda Noes blog:

In near record time, Paul LeBel, Bob Garrett, Kay Senter, Chris Bivens, and Claude Jinks rejected Mayor Thomas' nomination of businessman/pharmacist C.L. "Buddy" Jones, III, to the Morristown Utilities Commission.

Jones, son of C.L. "Bud" Jones, thus becomes the seventeenth rejectee.

Current MUC member George McGuffin refuses to bow out gracefully and become an advisor/chairman emeritus to the MUC Board.

Instead, McGuffin has spent nine months "letting" his name be put on seventeen MUC lists, resulting in LeBel and associates rejecting seventeen other good and qualified people.

While rejecting anyone and everyone else for the MUC seat, LeBel and company decided to push for a new law, the McGuffin Law, that would get rid of the current voter-approved appointment process that just isn't working for McGuffin.

Governor Haslam signed the McGuffin Law yesterday. Now the McGuffin Law comes back to City Council for final approval to officially let five council members cancel out the appointment process that was approved by 3,202 voters as part of the 2001 MUC referendum question.

We have serial rejections of many good people, actions to overturn the voter approved appointment process, and votes to change the local MUC Private Act just so George McGuffin, who has been on the MUC Board for over 34 years, can serve til ???

The message from the money/power group is clear. A referendum for the little folk is fine AS LONG AS THE RESULTS WORK FOR US (the-powers-that-be)!

But if we, the-powers-that-be, decide later that the referendum results are NOT working for US, we'll use 2 state legislators and 5 councilmembers to wipe out the votes of 3,202 people and change the law FOR US.

Coming soon...more on MUC and the McGuffin Law.

Agreed McGuffin probably did support McWherter, however it should not have taken an act of the State government to come to a solution. There are more important issues the republican General Assembly should be addressing instead of having to settle disputes such as these.

So true, like the "orgin of life", or one of the others which make Tennessee the Jay Leno headline of the day.

Just because that dumbass Noe puts something on her blog doesn't mean it is viable. She is nothing but a shit stirer. She has no business having any voice in a city matter any way. She doesn't live in the city of Morristown. She is a complete joke. She is a big part of the problem at these meetings. She is a huge joke and why these meetings take on an air of ridiculous.

One year away from another city election.I will bet the people that backed these candidates won't be pounding the streets and helping with signs again...When a elected official stands and makes a statement that now i have been elected i don't need you anymore or tell them what you want to get elected then do what you want. This is not the person i will ever work for or support.I also have a good memory so come on next May!!!!!

Anyone who would bring the name Nigel Reed into a discussion has no creditability and obviously not informed concerning city business or life in general.

It appears that the mayor won his seat by a majority vote of the people and the rest of the council should have respected his position. Mr McGuffin has served and I'm sure will be a continuing valuable resource when it comes to improving the quality of life in Morristown. In my opinion the council was wrong in going to the State Senator and State Representative to get a change to the city charter. If you want to change the charter, give the citizens a voice and let them vote on an amendment.

Justin, i think you stand corrected the Mayor is not the one that ask Mr.Southerland or Mr Miller to take this to Nashville after people voted it THE WAY IT IS...I will not vote for either again and i happen to like Mr.McGuffin.It's the fact that they DO NOT HONOR THE VOTERS WISHES.Shame on you Steve and Don.
