I just moved to Tennessee and I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find a good counselor or therapist that works on a sliding scale, since I have no health insurance. Back where I used to live they had programs where you only paid like 20 dollars to see someone and I know thats crazy and I am not going to get that lucky again but I was just curious if there were any programs like that in Morristown.

Thank you in advance for the help ;)

Try Cherokee Health System in Talbott or Morristown.

Try this number: five-eight-one-four-seven-six- one. Her name is Helen McNabb. But honest? I don't know anything about her except she does have a sliding scale program. It wont hurt to ask. Let me know if that doesn't work I will try to come up with more info for you. If it was me I would go for a smaller practice over Cherokee. At least the counselor will remember you on follow up visits. In big practices they see so many people everyday usually/more than likely you will have to keep repeating yourself over and over...Before they even begin to remember your face.Like I said if she doesn't do sliding scale anymore I will try to find more number's for you. GOOD LUCK!

Your welcome. If she doesn't do that anymore, Cherokee is your only choice. I hope you feel better soon. Good Luck to you. Stay strong and be safe. If you ever need to 'just talk' we are here. If you rather have a private conversation I will give you my Email address then we can exchange contact #s. If I can help in any way, I will try my very best!=}

If you are intrested in becoming involved in a church in the area couseling is offered through some churches. The southern baptist churches have what is called the Nolachucky association and they have a counselor that works their to assist people from all of the sb churches in the area.

This is nice. She said she feels really bad. I hope she can talk to someone. Talking to a stranger really does help. They are neutral and that helps. I hope she finds someone to talk to ASAP. I don't even know her but I am concerned about her. No I am really worried for her!!

Thank you so much! I really appreciate your help. I called Helen McNabb and its kind of like a mental health center. Its more for people with serious mental illnesses and things like that. I am just looking for someone to talk and explain things to. I would love to try Cherokee but like you said Lisa, I would hate to go somewhere where they don't even remember you when you come in you know?

Pick one of the two places the other posters told you about. You really need to talk to someone, and you need to talk soon. I am sorry I even said that about not remembering. I don't know if its even true. You may see the same person every time. But right now It doesn't matter. The point is YOU know you need to talk to someone. That is the important thing. Now do the MOST important thing...Monday morning call Cherokee in Talbott. OR take Caylyn's advice. You are new to Tennessee and of course I don't know if you believe in God. But if you do, What she suggested is perfect! Not only could you talk to someone BUT you will have the bonus of having a church family to help you through all the hard times. They will be happy to see YOU through all of YOUR good times too. So like I said If you believe in God, she offered you the best solution. Plus they are there to help you, Not take your money. SO If you don't want to think about what Caylyn said, Please the first thing Monday morning Call Cherokee. Will you please do one of those? Either the Church or Cherokee?? STAY STRONG!!!

Geez, the lady just asked for a counselor who accepted payment on a sliding scale. You act like she's on a suicide watch or something. Quit over-reacting.

Helen Ross-McNabb is good but I don't know about their fee schedule. Also, look in the phone book under counselors and psychologists. There are several in private practice that may be able to work with you. In addition to Morristown, there are some good folks in private practice in Jefferson County if you live on the west side. Good luck to you.

Lisa, you seem to be a class act. I think your 3 kids are very lucky.

Are you being Sarcastic? Cause what you wrote can go both ways. My children (except one) are already adults, if that is part of your concern. Thank you. Hope you have a good day. The sun came out and it is a great day to play in the snow!

No, I was not being sarcastic at all. I just like someone who has a genuine concern for others and is willing to take time to help someone in need. Looking back I can see how my comment could be taken in different ways, but rest assured I meant it the best possible way.

Maybe it's because I know Poor Old Sandy so well, but I cannot see how you could have taken his comment as sarcasm, especially after you had just responded so positively to FHF when she thanked you for being so sweet. Why did you not think she was being sarcastic?

He was just trying to say something nice to you.

Well Thank you!!! Someone has started a thread about me, so I was making sure. I know what this lady is going through. It is a bad way to feel, like no one cares. You know. I care about ANYONE who is hurting. As long as they are willing to care about their self, I will be there to TRY to help them through anything! I have been in situations where I wished I had someone to HELP ME. So I guess that is why I get so emotional when I am talking to her. Because I didn't have anyone to help me. I had to fight and claw my way out all by myself. On a lighter note, You cant have enough Friends. Again,Thank you so much for your comment. It made me feel alot better,just knowing everyone doesn't get ticked off over what I say. Your very sweet!=)

Maybe part of your problem is paranoia. No possible way poor old Sandy's remark could have been anything but respectful.
