lear operates on a phone call, always have and always will. they are a jit plant (just in time). i worked there for several years until i quit to go to school. i worked at jtekt for a short while during semesters and thought jtekt sucked. lear was ok, the work was nowhere near hard, it was good money, jtekt is full of a bunch of arrogant people. i worked at lear for two years straight before the layoffs started and that's when i started looking for a different line of work. while i was there lear was good, i think don johnson was the union pres. and then jim allen was the pres. i quit just after denny wadell was fired. jtekt takes the "do more with less" mentality to a whole new level. i worked in three different departments and the only fully manned shift was day shift, nights was always 3-4 people short, but was expected to run the same as a fully manned crew, which doesn't happen, but they cry about it anyways. neither place was hard work, but there is a world of difference in the attitude of the people. lears people were laid back and jtekt's were uptight and always acted better then you because they had been there longer or where full time. i'm glad i'm not associated with either plant anymore. both have good points, both have bad points, but i like what i'm doing now and don't have to worry about production or lay offs anymore. choose your profession wisely and you will not be on here complaining.
If you don't mind my asking, what profession did you choose?

My husband had a bad experience with Lear also. He managed to stay 31 days. They hired in 150 men at 11.00 an hour. My husband said that they were letting 3 to 5 go a day. They had a big order to fill for Ford. They called him 2 hours before he was to go in not to bother. Two months later they had an ad for hiring 150 more!!! I am like ,"What". Workforce One no longer deals with them. I think what they were doing is creating their own temp. service. Why pay 30. an hr. when you can bring em in for 11. let em go when the job order is filled. In this economy what they are doing to families is wrong. I mean bad karma go to hell wrong. It is the Hammond plant that I am speaking of and if anyone from Lear sees this and wants to dispute it, I welcome it. Since no one there ever answers the phones. You are right, they suck big time. If anyone from Hammond area sees this and was also treated crappy by them I would love to show up at their next hiring meeting with a couple of people and some protest signs. I hope all of you older guy's out there looking for work stays strong. Something has to happen.

Jeez what are oyu complaining about, getting laid off is the best thing ever, you get a paychek and don't have to work for it. The last place I worked for wouldn't lay off or even fire you, they'd just cut your hours to nothing so you couldn't make a living.

Just heard thru the grapevine, that Lear is gonna "crush" the next contract with the union. Lear took away, now they are planning to take more. They brought in new hires @$10. It will take 3 years for the new hires to get to $12. People are desperate for jobs. Bottom line. The old hands are NOT getting a raise. THEY will be brought down to $12. Lots of people are saying they will leave. But to where?

I don't work @ Lear, but have a family member that does. Been there for almost 20 years. He told me that if Lear takes more from him, he is outta there. Nothing about a strike. Are you kidding? Strike? In this economy? I am an RN and make really good money compared to Lear, but, put up with lots of B/S. Instead of taking care of people, I am doing more pc input. He told me he did not even get to vote on this current contract. Had a bunch of retired people that did. Did not give a single thought to the new people or the people that worked there previously. That place has him worried and he still has appx. 10 years before he retires! I feel bad for him and the new people.

Well...in a manner of speaking, a nickel back then is 75 cents now.
Time for some people to grow a set of balls and stand up!

My dad retired from Lear back in early 2000. He was one of the last groups who actually got good retirement benefits and a few years ago they tried to take them away, but because of the union, couldn't.
Lear has always hired people and laid them off. Dad started there back in the early 80's and it took him about 2 years to get hired full time.
There needs to be a protest against temp agencies. They are the ones taking pay away from workers by 'getting' them jobs. Companies used to hire thier own employess, but because of the allure of temp agencies, they hooked onto with them to keep from giving benfits.
The world needs a change.

No clem sorry I don't know who you are. As far as the temp agencies go I don't think they are using one. As far as I know they are just taking the applications through the unemployment office.

hhmmm, well consider this, how many times during a contract negotiation did the union have the company over a barrel? a strike will never happen, it hasn't in 30+ years and it won't happen now. besides, a strike would just help the company. do you really think bledsoe would let you strike? now stop talking shit and go run cell 2!
