My daughter went to camp at East High and she loved it as did the entire squad. I heard there was a argument one day but, they all went back the next day. On friday they had the spirit awards and the captain of the East High Cheerleaders stood there and every time she gave out a award to someone she always said good job to each one of those girls. They all were great with the girls.
mam' thank you very much! I appriciate what you have said and I had so much fun with the girls and i hope to see them all back next year

my daughter had a shirt that read "if cheerleading were any easier they would call it football!" i thought it was hilarious! the football players didn't... have y'all seen the jaguars? they are a traveling team only. they do stunts and flying that will make your heart stop! dance team at jchs rocks too! do the other schools have dance teams? i'm sure they do...
When East played at Greeneville this year, our band and cheerleaders stayed home because it rained. They played the game that night when the weather was good enough for our fans, students,GHs band and GHS cheerleaders. I lost a huge amount of repect for our band and cheerleaders that night so to say that football is easy and laugh about it, our boys played that night when the weather was too bad to "cheer".

EXCUSE ME?????? you know i am starting to lose alot of respect for the fans because of the neg. comments. IT WAS NOT OUR FAULT. we did not choose not to cheer that night. i personally was in my uniform ready to go to the school when i got the phone call stating that we werent going. and before you "lose" respect for us. listen to this. yes we were not at the game but at the sullivan south game ummmm....you was it that stayed by the fence until EVERY PLAYER AND COACH came off of it???? it was the EAST HIGH CHEERLEADERS and who was it that got up and left the stands during the begining of the 4th bc the other team intercepted the ball. it was out so called "fans" so yea. i think that you need to think before you say things be it is not appriciated. i think that i can speak for everyone when i say that we love our team! and as far as the band goes they have there own reasons for not being there and it doesn't concern you!

I don't know the situation, but a benefit of the doubt position might be in order. Let's just say that you were a band parent that had invested several hundred if not thousands in a wooden clarinet....Well, rain could turn that into mulch. It's not about not "supporting a team" sometimes. Again, just a different perspective.

It was a mutual agreement that the band would not travel to that game and the decision came at 2pm that day. Have you priced instruments lately, especially the woodwinds? Guess not. I think the band should have went, not played but showed their support for the team. My kids were disappointed that they did not get to go, but there were members of the band there that night, who choose to come on their own accord.

Back to the cheerleaders, they ran an excellent camp this past summer. Band camp was going on at the same time, and some of the band was watching th camp when they were on break. It was a real treat this year to watch the cheerleading squad. They put forth alot of hard work and effort, and it showed.

Beginning of the 4th? The game came down to the wire. Fans stayed and watched that game and true fans, you know the ones who have as much spirit for their team as cheerleaders, walked down to the fence and spoke to players. I too know because I WAS THERE. Please let me know who made the call for you to NOT go to the game. Even Derwin Helton questioned that in the article he wrote on Sun. following the game so it was not just me who thought it was a sad showing by the squad not to be there.

That would have been fine not to play and it would have been fine for the cheerleaders to not do dangerous cheers but they all should have went as groups in support of the team and school. If the directors or coaches made this call, then shame on them. It was for the conference championship.

So would you support the idea of loading up the team uses for the next band or cheerleader competition? Get over it.

My daughter cheered at East a few years ago, and it never got "too bad" to cheer. At Cocke Co. we were getting the remnants of a hurricane (Ivan if I remember correctly) and the rain was horrendous. I rememmber she took her shoes off and poured the water out of them. But you can't blame the girls for this one. This had to be a coach or principal's call. The girls don't make those kinds of decisions, so don't lose respect for them. They just do as they are told.

Are you the idiot parent from the boosters that tried to get the petition signed by parents and staff to keep the band and cheerleaders from attending any football games? If so, you are such an uptight witch.

i think the writer of the article should write about why the football team doesn't go to competition to support their cheerleaders. they should support their band at competition too! sure you see a few, either their sister or girlfriend is there, but NEVER the whole team! EHS parent, since you have an issue with them not being there cheering/playing for the football team, maybe you should start the campaign to get them to support the ones who support them! spirit awards are also given at competition for cheer, usually one for each age appropriate division, grasscutters, super grasscutters, peewee, junior varsity and varsity. then things get real interesting with the older divisions. ever seen the cheer movies? go see a competition, it will blow your mind. and the tshirt is a joke, kinda like the ones that say "i hear voices and they don't like you". which, coincidentally, is what my son's shirt said tonite. btw he was a football player.

i forgot to add that the spirit award is the most prized award. it's determined by how much their fans cheer for and with them, showing the most support.

Maybe the cheerleading coach should contact the football coach and let him know. I know for a fact that the football boosters have given money to the cheerleaders before so do not act like the football team does not support the cheerleaders. I think that people forget that football is like cheerleading. Football goes year round. They are working as hard right as they had during the season with conditioning and lifting.

And I think you forget that the cheerleading parents support the football boosters as well. There has been a lot of money donated to the football booster club over the past five or six years by cheerleaders families or the companies they work for. When my daughter cheered there, we had a football mother who threw a fit because she didn't think it was right for the girls to be fed before the game with the booster money. You might want to go back and check the booster records and see just what parents of the cheerleaders (and or the companies they worked for) have donated to the boosters over the past few years. You might be surprised

I am not trying to have war with the cheerleaders for god's sake. I just pointed out the fact that they missed a very important ballgame and it may have been due to the coach or school administration but none the less, they missed. I know they support the team and I think alot of people fail to see that the team supports them when they know about an event and have time to attend. Alot of the sour grapes about not going to the GHS game could have been avoided by the team going and parents and fans have a legitimate gripe weather you want to admit it or not. I know the team was very dissapointed in them not being there as well as the parents that attended. If there is a lack of support in the future from anyone outside the cheerleading community, it was brought about by the decision to not attend a game regardless of who's decision it was.

Actually there were 2 parents of football players that wanted this petition. They are both stuck up and think they run the whole show. Cheerleaders work very hard to support the football team, but the football team doesn't support the cheerleaders. It was the administration that made the call for the girls and the band not to attend the GHS game, not the cheerleaders nor the band, so you need to quit making them out the villians. The boosters don't do that much to support the cheerleaders, WOOP-DE-DO, they give them $5.00 for a meal once in a while, very generous when they help raise the money. The mothers that wanted to get the petition need to take time to reflect that the cheerleaders and the band would have been at that game, until they received the calls not to go. I know for a fact that some of the cheerleaders were ready to leave when the calls and texts came in at the last minute. Seems like these Moms would have better things to do, then to sit around and think of ways to get "EVEN" with these 2 organizations. The boosters need to look at one of the officers background a little deeper before they give her too much responsibility. Her past may catch up to her.

Also. Mr. Helton should be ashamed of himself for ragging on a group of kids. After all he is the adult, or maybe he was just trying to please a couple of parents that always want to get their way without thinking about what it may do to others. Great PARENTING!!!!
