El Parasio in Jeff City in the shopping center where Big Lots is is hands down the best around. I have tried them all. We used to drive all the way to Newport to go to La Caretta but discovered this place last summer and haven't been back since. They are the cleanest one around, great prices and prompt friendly service. Whoever said El Sazon was good hasn't tried this place yet.

mexico lindo on WEST is BEST.
East does not compare. They had a bug in their salsa last time I ate there. Also their chili relleno's are usually so almost BAD that you can tell the chili itself is going bad.

Caballo de Oro is not as good either, the refried beans are like a liquidy gook! Runny refried beans.
Yuck.

It depends on what you really want.
Mexico Lindo and Caballo De Oro have "dumbed down" their recipes for the white folks with less spice. El Pariso and La Hacienda (across from Virgil Webbs on east Main, is about 1/2 and 1/2.
The real stuff is at the restaurants at the Mexican stores. La Perla in Talbott/Jeff City is good and clean. I would also recommend the restaurant next to the family dollar across from the food city on S Cumberland. If you feel like adventure, there is a place close to that one between Food City and the Chevron gas station on Morris Blvd. Their business is 95% Latino.
Do realize that every restaurant is not Mexican. Momma's home recipes may be from Guatemala, Honduras or multiple countries. No real difference than our preference in BBQ from Memphis, Carolina, St, Louis, Texas, etc.
Roll with the punches and make your own decisions.

I like spicy food but other than tacos and burritos I don't know what to try so I guess I'll look at the menu, ask questions and then decide. I'm sure there won't be much I don't like. Unlike Chinese or Japanese when you might be ordering raw fish and not know it, I don't think there are any mexican dishes with raw meat in them so I guess I'll be safe. lol

There are none! You have to go to pigeon forge for no way Jose's or don Pablo's in Knox. They don't have a Mexican inn or on the border either. Go figure with so many Mexicans they should have decent food!

If you want real
Mexican food go to Texas or Mexico. You won't get real East TN country cooking authentic in Mexico. Mexicans wouldn't buy it if you did so why do you expect their food to not be commercialized ? Americanized ?

A friend and I went to El Parasios in Jeff city tonight. It was great. I can't tell you what I got cause It was in spanish but it was delicious. It was strips of chicken with saute'd green pepper, onion and tomato in a sour cream sauce. It has refried beans and rice with it. The place was clean, everyone wore uniforms, the service was fast and very affordable.
