Had lunch today at the new Jersey Girl Diner downtown. Food was great! Had the lunch special, big slab of fried catfish, 3 jumbo shrimp, red beans and rice, and cole slaw, all for around $5 plus drink. Service was a little slow but the place was packed and they just opened up this past Tuesday. The place is very clean with character and freindly people. I'll be going back.
heard food was awful

Another little hole in the wall downtown diner. Let's see how many does this make now? Looks like the only one that is going to stand up is the Java and that is likely because anyone who is anyone goes there - You know kinda like the Starbucks crowd. Of course you usually see alot of blonds sitting in the 90 degree sun striking a pose everytime a car turns the corner - yeah I'm a guy and I'm saying this.

Sadly, you are probably right. And the Java garden has the worse food of anyone that has been downtown. Somehow their out of the bag frozen microwaved menu, bad service, and rude attitude has survived all the good little restaurants that have come and gone on Main Street.Says a lot for the "taste" that everyone here has when it comes to dining, huh?

Wow...Ithought I was the only one who thought the Java Garden was not even close to deserving the praise it has gotten on here before.
Maybe my guess that it was the owners or employees....or friends od theirs posting all the kudos to that place....was right on the money? LOL.
hope this helps

Well, if it's like Denton's and other posters have described above, it sounds disgusting. I won't eat frozen junk from Sysco. I'm sure nothing is prepared fresh. Does anyone know who the food supplier is for this restaurant or who owns the place? That will tell you a lot about what kind of restaurant it is. I'll continue going to Java Garden. It's clean plus the food is ok for the price you pay.

Well unlike Java Garden, this place is a restaurant with a grille and cooking facilities. I think the references here to frozen and microwave were about the Java Garden. So if you don't want frozen pre-prepared why would you choose Java Garden?

When I am 'downtown', I will choose Java Garden for my coffee and a morning bagel and an occasional salad for lunch simply because I like the owner of Java Garden. That's about all I would ever come downtown for with respect to dining out as there are no great places to eat on Main in my opinion. I reviewed the first poster's recommendation but for my taste, that's not extremely healthy food. Can you post a menu online for this new place if it's that great? Where does this new restaurant buy the food it serves? Is it all hand cut or cooked to order?

Nearly every restaurant in Morristown serves pre-prep or frozen for convenience sake or to meet their financial targets on the COGS column of their balance sheet. If they don't buy frozen, it's usually worse, in that they dump stuff into the buffet troughs from a can. You mentioned that this new place has 'a grille', which to me isn't indicative that the restaurant is serving higher quality food nor is it impressive that the establishment serves menu items prepared on a grill top. It provides the ability to diversify the menu by serving a few grilled items. You are correct that Java Garden does not utilize a grill other than the panini grill.

Why try to compare this new place or bash Java Garden anyway...it's obvious I won't be a customer of this new restaurant after one of my friends described the terrible service and low-quality food he was served so there's no reason to alienate me further. I have lots of family and friends who love dining out so you might just be alienating those people too by posting against Java Garden, Downtown Brownnoser. Maybe you could check out the Thai Garden. I heard they are doing extremely well from friends at church so I plan to try that place for dinner this evening.

I'd prefer to sit in the 'pet cemetary' any day, with such great ambiance in the courtyard and their wonderful investment in color and decor inside, than go sit in that Jersey Girl dump with their old timey look. My friend who ate there said that place would do well to give their food away. None of it is prepared fresh either. She laughed over the hotdog which she said tasted like an eraser it was so old. To each his own I guess. Eat there if you can't pay more than $1.99 for lunch. If that's all you can afford to pay to eat lunch somewhere, I'd just boil Ramen noodles at home and save my gas money.

You are not too brilliant. I was not running down Java Garden with my post, you dumbazz, so I don't know why you directed your comments to my post. Also, I don't care if you are 'not a Java friend' either because my family definitely is. We too, dine there most mornings for breakfast and enjoy eating outside in the SWEET LITTLE COURTYARD for lunch.
