MORRISTOWN — Five Morristown residents have been charged in the home-invasion robbery of a 96-year-old woman.

The five were arrested Tuesday night, according to Morristown Police Chief Roger Overholt.

They are accused of forcing their way into the woman’s residence Monday night, binding her hands and feet, kicking and hitting her and then stealing jewelry and other valuables, Overholt said.

Nathaniel Wilmoth, 19, and an unidentified 16-year-old boy have been charged with especially aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary and aggravated robbery for their roles in the attack.

Amber Nicole Bryant, 18, Randall Weaver, 21, and Christopher Bryan Hancock, 21, have been charged with criminal responsibility for the conduct of another for their alleged roles before and after the attack.

Detective Cpl. Bob Ellis assembled a team of officers from different divisions of the Morristown Police Department to identify the suspects, according to Overholt.

The four adults are in the Hamblen County Jail, and the juvenile will be brought to the Richard L. Bean Juvenile Service Center.

More details as they develop online and in Thursday’s News Sentinel.

I have known this Lady all my life. She was a dear friend of my grandmother's. She has lived in this house probly since it was built. One time this was a good area but now it has become so run down. I don't know how this little lady will get over this. There is a special place in HELL for these thugs!!!
Let's all say a prayer for her.

I agree--these kids need the crap beat out of them. It makes me sick to think these punky young kids would have the audasity(sp?) to do something like this.
If I ever found out one of my kids did something stupid like this, the law would have to pull me off of them, I would beat the daylights out of them!
What ever happened to respecting the elders? No morals in most young people anymore--it's ridiculous.

Where were these almighty officers of the law that everyone says "puts their life on the line daily" to stop this terrible occurence while it was in progress? I'll tell ya where...instead of protecting and serving and patrolling rougher neighborhoods, they were running speed on 25E or "fueling up" at Pilot on the west end.

I used to know one of the guys ! He was a decent guy ! DOn't know what his role was but he used to be the kind of person who would have called the cops and tried to help the lady ! How he got messed up in this I don't know ! I pray for the lady , and the misguided youth involved ! The guy I know I hope it's a mistake and he is cleared of his part and if it's not I hope they all get what they deserve !

This is not the only case of a home invasion on the elderly, the difference is that the suspects were found and arrested. My hat is off to the officers who worked the case and made the arrest.

My heart hurts for the 95 or 96 year old lady, who will carry the fear to her grave and also to the young people who have such dissrespect for humanity and the culture which breeds such behavior.

mechanicly inclined , you are a ignorant person, the cops were probaly dealing with someone just like you,its easy to tell you have been dealt with by the police and are bitter by it. I see your post on alot of diffrent topix and in each one of them you are bashing the police. There is no doubt that if tonight someone breaks in to your house , or steals something from you , you would be quick to dial 911 > iam sure you will reply that you would shoot someone and call the police second if someone entered your house but like it or not you need the police to protect your very excistence to make the very streets the police protect day in and day out safe for you. So mechanicly inclined you should thank the police for makiung this such a wonderful place for you to live!

Odd, I've been alive 31 years and have yet to require the assistance of people like yourself to remain that way. The last time I called for "help" was due to petty theft. Took a couple of hours for someone to come out. They made out a report 'so i could file on my insurance"...in other words, "don't hold your breath for us to investigate this".

Then for the next 3 years, I would get a call once per year from the city PD asking "if I had recovered my property so they could update their records". You've gotta be shitting me.

Yeah, thank you MPD officers, for making my city so safe that I do not need a gated fence around my property and a high end alarm on every vehicle I have. Thanks for running around with your radar constantly wide open so that my detector gives me plenty of time to defeat you, as I do not want to be a victim of highway robbery by the blue light gang.

Now run along to the west end Pilot/police substation, the others are probably already there waiting for you.

You're right -- this type of crime does not just happen "only in Morristown".

BUT -- only in Morristown, do people see this happen and STILL mistakenly think that most of our violent crimes are committed by Mexican immigrants, and not drug-addicted white people.

Running speed on 25E I have never understood why they are on 11E about the time people are trying to get to work or sitting "hidden" on 25e shortly after 5 p.m. Worse case - one Sunday morning around 7:30 a.m. was traveling from White Pine area to Morristown. Around the area of Witt School an officer had a car pulled over - I thought two cars on this road and what are they doing - running speed trap. So my assumption is, get them on the way to work, on the way home and early Sunday morning. Where is the mentality? Let me add, early one morning - Morris Blvd. no one but me traveling west, officer traveling east-- what happened, pulled over for speeding 11 miles over the limit. I had to bite my tongue to keep from saying - don't you have anything better to do.

I have a great deal of respect for law enforcement, but every policeman I have seen lately in Morristown has been on a cell phone while in uniform and on duty.

I've seen them using a cell phone while gassing up their cruiser, text messaging while sitting at a red light (while a car ran the red light right in front of him), and talking on a cell phone while patrolling in a residential area near my home.

I would like to think that when they are on duty, they have their minds on their job and not on their next telephone call or text message.

So, so sad,,,
Yes this is very sad that anyone would do this to an elderly person or anyone for that fact but not everyone knows exactly what happened and I as a mother of one of this people know that all my son was doing or had been doing for months was to try to help get one of them off of pills that his mother was handing him. My son was not involved in any of the beating or the actual robbery of this woman. He may be guilty of knowing after the fact and he will serve his time for this but people should not make comments about the indivudual person unless they know the facts and I know I as a mother raised my son better than this
