first off i want to start out saying i am an honest person who has never stolen anything in my life..and with that said here is my issue,wal-mart has a young security guy he is a tall skinny red head who apparently thinks he is super spy for the last few weeks i have noticed him following me several times not that normally would not bother mesince i have nothing to hide, but since super spy wants to chat on his cell phone, point, and peep at me between clothes racks, peep around corners and actually lay in the floor to watch i find this disturbing and embarrising especially when i am looking at female items...it has got to the point that i hate going in there, tonight it was so bad i actually reported him to managment so my question is has anyone else on here had trouble with him?and just because some of us aren't decked out with fancy clothes and jewelery are we targets like theives???input please...from where i sit this is outright harassment.....

I'm not judging you at all but you mentioned that you were not decked out. I took a friend of mine along to Walmart a few years ago to prove a point to him. We wore old clothes that were a little ragged. Security followed us every step of the way and watched every move we made. Then I bought a little something and used my credit card. I was asked to show ID in addition to the cashier being rude and short with me. After this we went and changed clothes into dress pants, dress shirt, dress shoes, jewelry - nice watch and ring, tie, and jacket. We went back to Walmart and there was not security to be seen as we browsed around the store. Finally I found a few items that totaled to about 300 dollars, went through the same check out line with the same cashier. Used the same Visa. I was not asked to show ID and the cashier seemed like another person, kind, considerate, asking how my day had gone, thanked me for shopping at Walmart and told me to have a good evening.

Point of this story is this. They train their security to look for people that are not dressed well and to monitor them. As to the cashier, well I don't know what to say about her. This was Walmart in Knoxville on Chapman Highway, not the Walmart here in Morristown. But I bet I could conduct the same experiment and get the same results. It's all about perception. This is sad but it is the norm in most retail stores. You did the correct thing in reporting this to the store manager. I hope he/she took your name and number and assured you that they would follow up with you, but I doubt that they did. Customer service and customer focus is something that this country has lost. It is one of my pet peeves. I will pay more for a product and shop at a store that treats it's customers like they should be treated. I had a problem with Walmart here in Morristown the other day. They had a big cooler in the meat isle where they had apparently put all the frozen shrimp and was having a big sale out for $4.98 per bag. When I checked out it rang up as $8.98 or something like that. I told them no and there was a big cooler about half way down the meat isle full of shrimp on sale and that was where it came from. The cashier called the manager and I had to wait for ten minutes for her to get a price check. After the wait the manager told me that it was $6.98. I said no it isn't and told her about the cooler it was in and the big sale sign that was clearly posted. She just turned her nose up and walked away. She didn't care. It would have been so easy for her to just walk back to the cooler with me and see for herself, but she said no. So I told them to keep their shrimp and left.

About Walmart security, if you knew the pressures that the LP manager put on these guys, you would understand. He(th LP manager) wants to maintain his number one position in 'captures' in the district, and he is aiming for number one in the region as well.

this has cracked me up. I don't go to walmart often, but I've never been followed nor seen anyone on the floor. I think I would have walked right over him, or maybe stumbled a bit and complained of a neck injury!!!
He doesn't sound very smart, if you see him spying on you.

At the cost of a lawsuit ? At the very least losing customers ? We all know wal-mart sucks. But kinda action is lower then low. I just might have a discussion with the store manager. Needed to talk with him anyway. So this made it more important for me to talk to him ! This better change or i will stop shopping there. And will get around telling everyone why i quit shopping there. Screw the district. People shouldn't steal. But he shouldn't evolve his career around stats!! There are other areas to a job.
As for the LP guy this woman is talking about. He is a transfer from the Rogersville stoe. He's fairly good from what i hear and know. But this is just too much for anyone person to deal with.

I thought that I was the only person that happened to. I now try to look/dress better. I noticed the other post about that and have to agree. The better you look the less they pay attention to you. So I guess soon we will have to look like homeless persons when the Crooks wear Prada?

this is funny.
last halloween i was in sevierville doing a haunt to benefit united way. i had on black, torn clothes, black trenchcoat, and dark brown work boots. face was extra pale, i wipe off the white make up for better effect. my dog had eaten my cellphone charger. my friend was with me was dressed like a normal, sane person. i had "the walk" going, as i was still in character mode. we were followed almost immediately. not being familiar with that store we ambled around a bit til we found electronics. she was getting aggravated, "where are the cellphone chargers!" i turned around, walked straight up to the guy following me, with a look of discontent in my eyes and said in a deep, hannibal-like voice, "where are the cellphone chargers..." i thought he was gonna pee himself! he couldn't speak! he just pointed! we quickly found what i needed, went to the checkout, where i presented my associate card. hahaha you should have seen the look on their faces! didn't know whether to be relieved or mad!

seriously, they are trying to catch up with the real shoplifters. you can go up to them and let them know you don't appreciate being followed. no need to cause a huge stink about it and look like a fool. they are trying to do their job. shoplifters drive up the prices of other stuff as well as what they steal. sure, the store can absorb some loss, but big ticket items have become a big problem. i've managed to catch a few in my store. i hate a thief. someone tried to mug one of the older ladies i work with last week! he's ok though, she whapped him a few times and cussed him out as she was calling 911! the little old ladies at our store are pretty darned tough!

please do talk to the security guy, with a manager there. explain your feelings calmly and they should listen to reason. if not, ask for the store manager, if that doesn't work get the district manager's number and call him. you will get more flies with honey than vinegar. they will accomodate a calm, rational person more than a fool screaming their head off. just trying to help, i am NOT calling you a fool!!! good luck and keep us posted please...

How funny!! I was in Wal-Mart tonight and I saw the tall red-headed security guy walking around. He looks like a tall version of the dude on the Burbs.
He gave me the evil eye and I started laughing. I thought about this post. He had on an orange shirt with shorts and like boots. I have seen him in there before.

I have to tell you i do inventory at WalMart and they loose over 250,000 in inventory from just 2 areas in the store and that makes prices go up so if you look like a crook they have to follow you but it not a man on the floor they have great new things that will watch you. walmart put at least 50 people in jail each week at your local store so if you look like a duck and walk like a duck well your a duck , and what you dont know is your so called man who lays on the floor is not from Walmart.Wakmart only goes in to a store maybe once every so often. and as you go into the store you will see a office to the right it have about 100 cameras that follow were ever you are , and if you think they suck dont go..and besides most crooks look well dressed not the other way you sad people.makeing up stories

Guess your either in wal mart wayyyy too much. Or not enough. When you walk around and actually pay attention. You see things. Guess most people don't wanna see most things. But wal mart is a soap opera in it's own right. And yes they will lay on the floor to catch a theif. Or look thru racks of clothes. Or peer thru the various thru the carbboard behind the shelfs ! I saw the shelf part on my own. Caught 4 out of a group of 5 stealing blu-ray movies and any games they could get. Got like $300 worth before they were caught. Then caught another idiot trying to walk a big screen out. Almost did it too. But the door/people greeter got his arse !

one more thing Lowes and Home depot all have the new system.they also watch you because of all you crooks here in morristown, so remember if you steal they have your picture and when you go back in your picture is taken and a serch of types if you stole lets people know your in the store. police are also let known so if your ever arrested they can get you on other charges. so all you people who cry about wlamart do go Walmart will not miss you because if you think crooks or people who act like crooks should not be watched well stay out. (he was laying on the floor in a busy store so funny lol i wonder how many read that and beleaved it)

I think the policeman needs to go back to grammar school and learn how to spell, and put sentences together.

I may have to go to walmart n check this dude out, what time does he normally work? haha

well well. at least i am not the only one.. i had a similar incident a few years ago at the other store. Anyway, I was watched and watched. It really ticked me off. I mean I shop at wal mart just about every night.. did then and do now..
Anyway, what I thought was so funny about the ordeal was how stupid their loss prevention people are. They couldn't hide if they had too.. they were so obvious to anyone at who they are and what they are doing.. I made fun of them.. I called the store manager and told him how terrible their LP people were. If I were a thief, i would be able to spot LP very easily.
Of course at this Wal-Mart, they are obvious as well... But you know what is is funny about Wal-Mart... A LOT of their theft goes on at the self checkouts.. I mean awhile back a friend and I went in and bought quite a bit of stuff.. grocery items. We were using the self checkout and ringing our items up.. the computer throws up a warning about "SKIP BAGGING" we kept on scanning our items and kept on hearing beeps. Well, after we got out to the car, we discovered that we hadn't paid for the $18.oo pork roast and a 24 bottle case of water, about $25.00 worth total altogether... we just laughed about it and went on.. I was not going back in that mess of crowds of people to pay for this stuff...
anyway, a lot of the stealing is going on right at the self checkouts..but, apparently wal mart doesn't care... they would rather have one person watching four checkouts at once, rather than paying enough employees to check people out. anyway.... thats my 2 cents worth.. but their LP people are so obvious and they are amateurs... I could catch shoplifters with my eyes closed..
Oh yes... also, about the Electronic Article Surveillance System EAS at the front exits.... puuuulease... the Wal-mart employess do not follow proper procedure in working this system...
They just let people walk on out when it sounds and alarm... even after they have "deactivated the security tags" yeah right... If it still beeps after deactivating the tags .. it is highly suspect that the reason there is still an alarm upon the exiting customer, that the customer has bought "some" of his items... but is also possibly STEALING ITEMS TOO....
Anyway, Wal-Mart security=AMATEURS...
