Morristown Public Housing, Morristown Housing Authority, The Projects -- whatever they are called, the housing units in front of West High. What is it truly like to live there?

The apartments themselves, are the small and cramped or ok?

Are they dirty or clean?

Bugs, no bugs?

Loud, druggie, violent neighbors or a decent place to live?

I am a single mother, how has significant health problems they do not allow me to keep a job. I've worked hard all my life so please, try to at least consider this when thinking of making a rude remark. A great deal of you are one accident or a lay off from being in my shoes and trust me, losing my home, having to live in a housing assistance area, is not what I saw for my future either. SO just remember that if you think you'll look cute by posting something that really, isn't very funny at all. I am not different than your mother, sister or wife (my husband died) I am just trying to keep a decent roof over mine and my children's heads so i would very much like to hear real opinions about the public housing across from West High and any other public housing in the Morristown area, I only know about the ones in front of West and I have never been inside one so I really do not know anything about them.

Thank you!

I think some apartments are better (safer) than others,I think they give you options on where you would prefer,(not real sure though).Check out your options beforehand,I hope you find the right place for you and your family. They have a lot of housing in different areas, not just around West-High School. Wishing you the best and a Merry Christmas!

i live in pulbic housing and its really not that bad. i guess it depends on where they put you. i dont live near west high but heard some bad stuff about that area. alot of drugs going on there but i guess you dont have to live in the projects to have a drug dealer as your neighbor anymore! i would ask if they had anymore open before i took one there. where i live its calm and as far as i know no pill heads around here. good luck.

I live in the housing area across from West High. Almost been here a year. The apartment I got is a two bedroom very clean and no bugs (except for crickets) it's very quiet and neighbors are pretty decent. Maintenance crew is awesome if something breaks or whatever maintenance problem you have and call them they come right away. I understand where you coming from my husband lost his job last year and I wasn't working neither but now we are slowly getting back on our feet and housing has helped a lot. Hope this helps!

They make it so hard to get into piblic housing in Morrwn, only in thi community you have to have a bd check , do community service for fee and s that not what public housing is for the poor or single mothers and that sort of thing? Jackie Hicky is a straight out trip and they nose all in your buisness if anyone has ever been in trouble they are not allowed at your house no matter if it's your mama,in other places she would have got jacked up along time ago her and Ron, put your big pants on robo cop and sighn up to wk the bricks in a big city your country azz would have been through nozing around!

Thank you everyone for your replies and your kindness, I am amazed at the level of understanding and sympathy especially from topix, so really, from my heart I thank you and Lisa from Jeff City... I am glad to know that a person has to pass a background check before being able to live there, that certainly eases my conscious as I wouldn't want to live in a community of felons or anyone, momma or not who stays in trouble and I am glad her nose is all up in peoples business because if you have no business to hide or to be ashamed of, that kind of thing keeps trouble out and having to do a little community service, that's called giving back.

The opportunity to live in public housing is just that, an opportunity, an opportunity to get back on your feet, an opportunity to have safe housing over yours and your families head, the opportunity to not have to worry all the time, day in and day out what is going to come of you, where will I live? So if I have to give back via community service, I would welcome that opportunity to pay back to a community who had given me such an opportunity in return.

Yes they do background checks, yes you have to do community service (8 hrs a month) and only if you are not working. Just make sure you keep all your papers together cause sometimes they do tend to lose paperwork but overall they are not bad at least in my case.

Don't know where you got your info but yes you can work and live in housing. Also if you are drawing SSI or disability you do not do community service work. There is a lot of people who work and live there. I don't understand why anyone would complain about doing 8 hours of work a month to have a place to live. They really should do 8 hours a week.

Looks like you need to go back to school and learn to spell or how to type. A lot of people do live there and don't work, just lay around and live there free, so what does the community service work hurt? At least you have a roof over your head. From what I have heard Jackie and Ron both have done a great job over there. They at least work and have a job. What is wrong with them wanting the tenants to have a safe place to live.I would think the ones who live there would like that.

well I draw disabilty and I could not do the community service that they want you to do if I wanted to, I think public housing only in this county requires this bs, if I am disabled and can't work then why would I do it for free ssI is not what people think it is you can barely make ends meat!

You don't want people to judge you, make rude comments, etc. but yet you don't want to live around felons? Not all felons are bad people. BELIEVE me. Most are, but not all. I am a convicted felon. It's been 20 yrs. this year since I was convicted of my crime. I did my time in jail, paid my fines, paid my restitution, did my community service, had my voting rights restored, etc. if you saw me on the street I assure you that you would never in a million years know I was a convicted felon. I was young, dumb and made a very bad decision in which I still pay for today. But not all felons are bad people. Don't come here asking people not to pass judgement on you and them turn around and judge them.
